Let me start off by saying that I've always been passionate about all genres of music, but I've always had a tendency to lean towards positive hip hop and eventually all different kinds of instrumentals for the most part. I started writing my own lyrics as of late so I could make my own songs but I wanted to produce the music as well so I could have that real feeling of everything being a true piece of art from myself. I had messed around with Fruity Loops in the past and was debating between them and Ableton Live when I started coming across the Native Insturments program and drum machine. I ended buying the maschine mikro at a guitar center first because It was cheaper and I felt it was all I needed to work with the program. I instantly became hooked and decided to invest in the MK2 and Komplete Ultimate package no more than a couple weeks later. Both the Mikro and MK2 feel exceptionally well-made and sturdy. The knobs are smooth and the button click perfectly. The program is so easy to jump into because of the drum machine and layout as opposed to just downloading any other DAW without hardware and it just makes you feel as if you can navigate and begin producing music with ease. Its got a great set of sounds to start with but eventually you will want to invest in the Komplete Ultimate package later. For myself, hours passed by in minutes just having fun with the program while learning. I honestly believe that right off the bat it will help someone be able to create unique and gratifying music which they are actually trying to make as opposed to learning the ins and outs of another program which may take awhile to be satisfied with results.. I also want to mention that this program worked flawlessly with my Casio Privia digital piano and I highly recommend a decent digital piano or keyboard if you are serious about beginning music production.     • Hesitant at first,.. but happy afterwards

I was hesitant to buy Maschine to be quite honest, and I am glad that I didnt buy the first one as this one came up shortly afterwards, it was quite of a pain to loosen up the credit card to pay the requested price, specially as N.I. spends a bunch in advertising, which considerably elevates the price of the goods. (I didn't even followed an ad). The reason I decided to make the purchase is because in one of the electronic music forums, reading one users reply to a chain, it was mentioned that this was more intuitive (I think he did took the word from the ads, darn!). And that is what I was looking for, I bought Cubase a bit more than a year ago, but for amateur users these programs can represent a really steep learning curve, there is no constant flow and that can lead to frustration, when you plug in your midi devices, anything can happen, some devices may work flawlessly, some others may be a real pain in the butt. (and to identify the cause?) Software says "refer to the manufacturer", manufacturer says "refer to your DAW manual"... So so so "big F" annoying!! Having zero audio background the configuration or recognition can be by itself a pain in the arse. Problem and pain gone with Maschine! The sequencer is a bit different to learn, it has it's learning curve, but with a bit of logic thinking, you can sort it on your own. Yet I can see some users wishing a better handling of the loops (or scenes) as referred by N.I. I spent hundreds trying to find the right controller and stuff for Cubase, Maschine cut corners on that big time, as it has it's own software with a nice hardware integration which also has it's own screens. Thus, some tasks got really simplified so you can get hands on faster. Another advantage which I am sure has been mentioned is that it works as standalone or even as a plugin in any big DAW, except that this plug in provides you with much more versatility and better feeling, changed for good the mouse clicks for a "delay" effect or so, the hands on feature really made the process more enjoyable. Being an audio aficionado and not a professional producer I finally found one device in which I can rely on logic thinking as opposed as riddle solving for the same task. This makes me think that pros can use it as a plug in in the main DAW's and aficionados like myself, can start having fun with sounds with way less pain. I just hope the software keeps being upgraded to make some of the basic functions easier, like the scene handling. Other than the expense, I am happy camper with my device. The Maschine MK2 was everything that I ever dreamed it would be. Not only are the pads nice and sensitive, they also have a much better feel than the MPC, MPD, and MPK pads that I am used to. The Maschine Library and the "Komplete Select" package give you access to so many thousands of instruments, sounds, and samples that immediately make you realize that the $600 price tag is actually a bargain. All of this being said, I will be returning my Maschine MK2 and replacing it with the Maschine Mikro MK2. After a couple of days with the Maschine, I quickly realized that it does not offer much more functionality than the Mikro, at least not enough to justify the price difference. I wanted to do music as hobby for a long time. I went and did a lot of research into the messy and complex world of electronic computer music generation. I decided for Maschine over all other similar consoles and I have started using it. At this time one month after buying it I can say I have zero problems and zero disappointments. My level of excitement continues to rise with this product and the possibilities to make music are very high. I was planning to buy a DAW but I haven't yet because at this moment, and several months to come, I will keep my music adventures only to Maschine. Have you ever been considering what it feels like to pull your teeth via a hardware interface? That's exactly what this feels like, honest. It comes with a 700(!) page manual, all digital- none of that fancy paper manual business for your $600 purchase no sir, and it does for a good reason too. 'Maschine', unintuitively frustrating to grasp, you have actually no hope of getting along without it. It sort of reminds me of the early era of video-gaming when manufacturers would try to capitalize on a market by releasing terrible shoddy hardware to swindle away unsuspecting parents' hard-earned money for the love of their children. This is the Nintendo Powerglove of midi controllers. Maybe stereotypically I got the lauded and similarly welcomed Push alongside, and I'm not even writing to compare this with Ableton's Push in this review- I'm comparing this on it's own merit. I was looking forward to this more than I was the Push due to the 'all-inclusive' aspect I was hoping to exploit, the advanced features and the like, you know; but writing this, and I up to this point had to fight myself while wondering how I could be so dead wrong, I have NO idea how this has such a high rating. Unless you have carrots as your only music-making alternative, avoid this at all costs. You'd learn an actual instrument in the time it takes to master garbage. There are a few things that struck me and forced me to continue the desperate frustration, the waveform editing being bar-none the coolest feature. I don't think the Push is the end-all for what should be the total departure from your DAW you want to have, but Push is the moon, and Maschine doesn't even get you off the ground. Though it isn't a comparison to Push, you feel like you're making music with a Push, this feels, well- see the first line. P.S. Do you expect to be able to use this within a reasonable period of time after opening? No plug-and-play here folks, unless you have your own ready sample library, in order to use the massive 8GB sound library you're promised, you actually have to register this $600 hardware on the manufacturer's site, and 'activate' your $600 hardware to fully use the accompanied software, which then naturally begs the question what will happen when you choose you wish to part when it hits you the massive mistake you've made by purchasing this. I came into this purchase completely free of bias, and truth be told I was actually more excited for this than I was that other half of my order, but like an unexpected root canal, I'm so unhappy now I feel I have no other choice but to mention my experiences. ... show more

This is the first drum machine I've ever owned. It came in the mail right on time and in perfect condition. As a noob to Maschine, I was surprised that after a few youtube tutorials on how to get started with it, I picked up the basics in about 2 days. It's easy to understand and I love that it's colorful. I'd recommend the ADSR tutorial channel for starters. There is so much that you can do with this thing! I have yet to learn every single feature but so far it's been going well. I do have a few issues with this though. The software that comes with it doesn't always work properly. For instance, I tried to open up HeartBeat which is a drum vst I believe but it will not open. I have this issue with one or two other vsts. The Maschine support is not the best. If you want answers to your questions, it's best to ask on the forum. It's also a CPU hog. I've made some adjustments to the software to avoid any cutting out of the instruments but my god, it's ridiculous. My computer is more than qualified to handle this software as well. The hardware itself is very sturdy and has good weight to it. I like the feel of the pads, buttons and knobs. The screens make it easy to produce on the fly. Overall it's pretty nice. I wouldn't personally mix/master within the software. I'm definitely going to be doing that in a seperate DAW. ... show more

Awesome Product, it worked to my expectations and the delivery was quick. I love the NI products and I had the MK1 but now I got the MK2 and WOW its built way better and the buttons is more responsive. If your thinking about the MPC Ren. then look no further. The Maschine is a better product and you can do a lot more and the work flow is superb and very easy to learn for beginners and it is great for the Vets like my self who's been doing it for years. ... show more

One thing is I'm not very happy that N.I. is charging users 99$ to upgrade to the new 2.0 software. It's really just an update on the UI and not worth such a price tag, not to mention it fixes certain UI issues I had and wished never existed with 1.0 Also, I am yet to be able to fix the lag with my controller. There is a lag/delay from pressing a button on the drum pad and hearing it come out the speakers. I have tried to reinstall the software, my operating system, I EVEN tried using it on another completely separate computer, yet the lag stays. This is the only reason I am unable to produce/create with RECORD on with the controller. I have to have the track playing, with REC off, and THEN I can go into the software and paint the melody I want. ... show more
