I got this Advent calendar for myself, and I plan on buying one every year now. The amount of joy I got from it was astounding. The rocks/gems are beautiful, high quality, and I absolutely loved that it came with a list so I could practice identifying what I got. I do wish it came with a definitive guide as to what was what, as they are natural stones so not all of them look like the pictures. There are about 3-4 that I'm not quite certain on the identification of. I would HIGHLY recommend this Advent calendar for anyone who enjoys gemstones and rocks, no matter the age! ... show more

Super excited for this! An advent calendar at a fair price that can run all of December up till the 5th, AND it has genuine gem stones! Definitely a good buy :) Came well packaged, the box is u damaged, and while I can hear the stones inside, nothing seems to have come loose. This was for my 6 year old this December and he absolutely loved it. It’s definitely worth the money if your kid is a collector of all things rock related and enjoys the surprise of it all. Plus that’s kind of what I expect with things like this, lots of variables and no guarantees. I liked that the last day was one he got to be interactive with to get to the actual gem! I would say I was also super impressed with the cute little NatGeo protective baggie it comes with as well as the pieces to make the gems into jewelry. My only wish is that the necklace holder was bigger since most of the gems were too big to actually fit. ... show more

The rock in the photo is the final reveal of what you dig up in the end. It's supposed to be rose quartz, but clearly something happened that removed all of the rosiness from the actual stone. While I didn't expect any of the rocks to perfectly match the pictures on the box, it was difficult distinguishing what the rocks were supposed to be. The blue calcite was not blue. Neither was the sodalite or quartz. The fluorite was faded and the amethyst did not have a chevron. However, some of the rocks I received were genuinely beautiful specimens. If you feel like taking a shot at it, I still recommend this advent calendar overall :) ... show more

It adds joy to my heart when my son gets up early JUST to open the daily tab with SO much excitement each morning! Our new family tradition has started! Will buy each year as I see my kids curosity and wonder lighting up their brains each morning as they pop one open! He reads the rock descriptions that are so brilliantly displayed with a great pic of each possible rock, makes the jewelry kits that came with it with his favorite rocks, AND BEST of all it has peaked his interest so much that he goes and reads more about the rocks/minerals and takes them to share with his class!
