I'm in the process of restoring an old car, and needed something to strip rust off. I didn't want to go with too large of a sandblasting unit because I have a small 120v compressor. When I used this on the frame, it stripped the rust off, and in some places it got down to bare metal. It does take a while to work. Since I have an entire frame to do, I don't think it's the right tool for the job, and may end up using the grinder instead. I used charcoal slag from a local tool store. Pros: Works with a limited air supply. Strips to bare metal, and in some places only stripped the rust, leaving some of the other finish there. Cons: Is going to take a very long time to get through the job I got it for. Not faster than grinding.

This is a good blaster for cleaning a bracket or a small part. Also good for cleaning an area on the car where you might weld. This will not do for bigger jobs, like a driveshaft or a transmission. The media reservoir is just too small for those big jobs. Now, you could do them, but it will take a very long time. Siphon or pressure blasters with a big media tank are what you need for that. But those cost more. Again, small jobs, this is your boy. One thing that would have been a bonus is if they had included a small bag or carrying satchel for this tool. I'll have to see if I can come up with something, otherwise, the lose spare parts are just going to get lost. Work that into the kit and you have a complete product.

The only media I've shot through the gun is soda, but it works pretty well as long as your compressor can keep up. It comes with some extra tips and safety equipment which is nice. I've never used a similar gun so I have no direct comparison but I was happy with the results. I'm excited get some more soda to clean up some painted parts.

I got this to do small blast work in my DIY home shop. Works as directed. Be sure to use in some contained/isolated area because it made quite a mess even using it within my makeshift blasting box (large cardboard box.

The media could not be loaded. I tried this using baking soda which we already had at home. It did do something, yet the compressor that I have is only a 2.6 CuFt/min pancake type compressor. That compressor is great for a nail gun, but it will not keep up with what this process requires. I was able to actually take off some loose plating from some metal with this. But, to continue I would need to stop and start to allow the compressor to recover. It's not the fault of the unit. You also really need a sand blasting booth to do this right.
