Top Amazon Reviews

  • Difficult to Review: So much to love and also some frustration
Color: Back-250W
This is one of the more difficult product reviews I've ever had to write. I waited a long time to receive this ebike from Amazon, and it's taken me a while to determine how I feel about it. GOOD: Let's start with the good. For the money (and even though the price went up $49 after I purchased), this is absolutely the best ebike value you can buy, without question. Keep that in mind when you consider the pluses and minuses of this model. To get a good ebike you would normally have to pay anywhere from $1500-$2000++. Like many of you, I don't have that much money sitting around. Of all the bikes in the under $1000 price range, this model is the only one that gets somewhat decent reviews, has a removable battery, is comfortable to ride, and generally does the job. The bike is solid. The parts are durable (for the most part - see below). The bike feels solid the way 1970's cars with all-steel bodies felt solid. I strongly suspect this bike would survive a bad wreck. The tires are thick and wide. The seat is very comfortable. The handlebars are spaced just right for this kind of bike. Most unusual for ANY ebike (including many expensive ones) is the top speed you get. I was blown away that I can easily achieve 20mph in all-electric mode (often faster on level ground), and easily as fast with pedal-assist. Most ebikes max out at far slower, possibly due to local laws (such as in Germany) that respect the top speed of ebikes to much slower. This high speed makes a long commute realistic, and was my main reason for purchase. So far I have not been disappointed. I love the removable battery! This is probably my favorite feature. Not many cheaper ebikes have a battery you can pull out and carry with you. This will allow me to charge my battery at work under my desk and then bike home. Might be the best reason to buy this ebike at its current price point. There are also little touches I like: The included cargo rack, the old school kickstand with foot latch, and the included bell PLUS electric air horn. And trust me, that horn makes an impression! No one will be in your way when you use it! The electric headlight connected to the battery is also a nice touch (when it stays on - see below). BAD: There are nearly as many troubles with this bike as there are good things. I don't even know where to begin. Let's start with assembly. The instructions have no illustrations! You have to read written instructions and hope you are interpreting them right. I've assembled bikes before, and this one took me far longer than it should. Workmanship is sadly also an issue. I stand by my positive comments about how solid the bike feels, and it is. But a number of parts just feel... cheap. The main problem that other reviewers have mentioned is the headlight falling off. It took some trial and error and a trip to the hardware store to get it to stay on. The numbered gear shift is easy to use, but the lower gears don't align very well to each shift stop; I'm hoping a bike shop will help me adjust it. And then there's what happens if you shift too fast: under hardly any excess tension the chain will pop right off the crankshaft! At least every other ride I find myself having to pull over and put the chain back on. And it's not as easy to re-mount the chain as it is on a conventional bike, due to the chain guard and the unusual shape of the seatpost to accommodate the battery. On most regular bikes you can pull the chain up on to the crankshaft as you pedal forward. But because of the location of the chain guard and the seatpost, I've found the best way to remount the chain is to thread it in reverse. It has taken me some practice. Shipping itself for this bike was a problem. Took a month to arrive. Now I realize that in these times bike deliveries take much longer. But I was frustrated to see the seller print out my shipping label a full week before the actual shipping of the bicycle. (The seller did make contact with me during the long wait, and I appreciate that. I just wish there had been more transparency about the long leadtime.) And when the bike did arrive, the box had a big gash in it. It was so bad that UPS offered to let me refuse delivery. Once I opened the box and assembled my bike I saw that the complete front basket was missing entirely. Did it fall out of the big hole in the box or did the manufacturer forget to put it in there? I reached out to the seller about the missing basket and they offered to send me another one, in a curt note that ended with "please wait a minute." I have not heard back from them since. OVERALL: My review hovers between 3 and 4 stars. I don't regret my purchase at the end of the day, but I do think it was more hassle than it should have been. If the manufacturer ever sends me my missing basket, and if the bike continues to perform well, I may up my review. ebikes are very bleeding edge right now, and it's not usually cheap to build a bike around a brushless motor from the ground up. Buyers should accept that a bike like this will have come with some hassles. Or just wait until you have more money for a better model. ... show more

  • For 3 MONTHS, 20 MILES almost everyday
Color: Back-250W
So, to just get to the point. After 3 months of having this bike and riding it 10 miles to and 10 miles back from work, this is what I've learned; 1.When assembling you might want to have your own tools or even a power tool because OMG the screws were tight and hard to put on or take off to put certain parts on. 2. No real manual to set up the bike 3. I'm 115lbs and 5'4" in height, on a full night's (8-10 hours) charge this bike goes max 16MPH (maybe 17 if you sweat hard enough while pedaling) 4. I work 10 miles away on a mostly even plan with a few and very SHORT hills that go up and down. -On a non-windy day It takes me 40-45 mins to get to work, BUT I have to pedal the WHOLE TIME and by pedal I mean like you would on a normal bike trying to go fast, with a few light pedals here and there. (MY BATTERY IS DEAD OR RED by the time I get there, with the LIGHT OFF, even at night) -On a windy day with winds up to (10MPH) I would only make it about 7-8 miles(after 40mins) then the battery would die out and it would take me about 20-30 additional mins to get to work. (The last 2-3 miles would be rough...as in it felt like the gears on the bike were sticking and for me to really pedal I'd have to be in a semi-standing position and use my weight to push down on the pedals to even keep going at a slightly faster than walking pace.) 5. When you see a red light or a stop, stop the motor so you can extend your battery life by a slight bit, without having to pedal and feel like you're pedaling bricks. 6. Be careful hitting bumps or crossing over to or off the sidewalk, that slight bump or jump occasionally made my gear pop off if I was going a little too fast 7. THIS IS A HEAVY BIKE AND WILL NOT FIT THE TRUNK OF A REGULAR CAR (Trust me we tried...I ended up scratching the paint of my bf's car..:/) 8. BATTERY LIFE at least for me was between 7-11 miles on a mostly even with some short hills or slopes going up AND DOWN. (I had to bring my charger every day with me and charge my battery at work so I could go home) 9. Within the first month the front-wheel cover came off on its own along with the light :/ the screw went flying so that was the end of that. 10. Last but not least for the price of almost 700 there's not much else you can expect. This bike isn't really meant for long commutes, it's more like a short 7-10 decent miles. ... show more
