I was going to rent a dethatcher, and it's about the same price to rent as this one is to buy. I'm glad I bought this one. You need to make a simple plan so your electric cord is not in your way. The catch bag is okay, but if the material gets too thick, the Machine automatically shuts down, and my lawn wasn't parched, so it might have been my problem because they would shut down when they got too thick, I think, due to being somewhat wet! So, I took the catch bag off, and the dethatcher ran just fine. I had to do more ranking, but it was easy. I like to make two passes on my lawn, but now that I own the Machine, I can do it anytime and every year. It hits the weeds well, but I recommend applying your weed killer first and letting it sit for a couple of days.

Did exactly what it is supposed to do. Goes together easy. Pretty easy and smooth to push and maneuver unlike others I have tried. Definitely lightened up my lawn and let it breathe. It does a really great job. Also the bag does a great job at catching the thatch, but it is a bit small so only really catches one pass and then needs emptying. But it is worth using the bag to get as much as possible. I did half of my yard with the bag and the other half without and then went over it with my lawnmower w/bag on to collect the rest of the thatch and it just ends up throwing about 30% to 40% or more back down. So using the bag with the dethatcher may be a bit of a pain but it is worth it in the end.

This is a great purchase. My yard is a disaster from neglect and from mulch build-up. This machine filled several large trash bags and two garbage can on just its first pass. New grass is starting to pop through and it looks like it will recover, thanks to this searcher. Once it’s a little stronger I will use the scarifier help with filling in with seed. This is well worth the money - actually it’s a bargain. Only issue is the assembly instruction aren’t clear and there’s not a good detailed assembly video on the internet.

After years of watching my once-lush lawn slowly deteriorate despite regular mowing and watering, I finally decided to try this electric dethatcher last weekend, and I'm genuinely amazed at the difference one pass made! Assembly was straightforward, taking about 20 minutes to attach the handle and collection bag - no specialized tools required beyond a simple screwdriver. The machine feels well-built despite its relatively light weight of around 27 pounds, making it manageable to push across my quarter-acre lawn without exhausting myself. What impressed me most was how effectively it pulled up the layer of dead grass and moss that had accumulated over the years - material I didn't even realize was choking my lawn. The 15-inch width struck a good balance between coverage area and maneuverability, allowing me to efficiently work through my entire yard in about two hours. The adjustable depth settings proved incredibly useful - I started with the highest setting to avoid potentially damaging my grass, then gradually lowered it for more aggressive dethatching once I got comfortable with the machine's operation. The large 45L collection bag was a feature I initially overlooked but came to appreciate immensely during use - it meant fewer stops to empty debris, though it does fill up quickly when tackling seriously thatched areas. I have a very small yard. Although I debated about getting one that needed a cord this has worked out great. The directions could have been written better but even at 73 I was able to assemble it myself. Don’t let all the plastic fool you it is pretty sturdy. If you want a inexpensive mower that doesn’t need gas and oil this is working fine for me.

This is a great dethatcher/scarifier for the money. I've used the SunJoe and GreenWorks before and this seems to do just as good of a job! Super affordable and 0 complaints on performance. Not sure how well the bag works as it's a little small, so I just use my mower afterwards and it picks everything up! Great buy!

Decent little machine. Being super light weight makes for easy maneuvering. Used on zoysia and it definitely paid for itself being cheaper than a rental, and got the job done great. If you don't dethatch often, I don't recommend using the bagger. Thing fills after 20ft. Haven't used the scarifier and don't plan to. If you are tired of dealing with nonsense rental fee, I highly suggest buying this. I use it commercially and haven't had a single problem and the results are identical to a lawn goat power rake. It just takes longer being less than half the width. Still worth it.
