Nostalgia is Magical. Holy crap this thing is so cool. Male to male wire and a portable speaker make It sound so good. The Joystick puts it over the top! Easy to Play, Easy to get higher scores. Three games in one. Galaga, Galaga fast shoot, and Galaxian.

Purchased as a gift for my brother who is a huge fan of the original Galaga game. Wasn't sure if he would like it but he played it non-stop after opening it on Christmas morning. Really got a kick out of it and liked how it uses the original game code for authentic play. The large joystick doesn't look as cool as the game that looks like a miniature arcade cabinet but it's much easier to play than a tiny joystick. Screen is bright and colorful. ... show more

I do think that of the "joystick players" by MyArcade, this comes closest to meeting the finish line. The sounds/music from the arcade are awesome to the ear, the graphics classic, and the gameplay is..well, I'll get into it. The actual speed of the joystick has generally been the weakest link. It was so stiff that I turned the game off and jostled it (don't recommend this- but it shows how desperate I tried to make the joystick responsive) However, I found that if you dim it to the lowest brightness settings, it plays a lot quicker.. As for the arcade button, it isn't big, but it does the job very well. Historically "MyArcade" hand players tend to have "console-like" buttons, so the "plastic piece from a game of checkers/arcade button" is very welcome, and a huge upgrade from the "flightstick thorn" of the original Galaga Joystick player. The two modes of "arcade" and "fast shoot" allow players to either experience the 1980s style speed of the ammunition or a more anachronistic "sound barrier breaking" one. And there's Galaxian. I'm thinking the solution is to either have a modified port of the NES Galaga but with arcade sounds, or a straight up port from the Game Boy Advance game in order to keep the game up to speed (pun intended) I don't think it's great, but very good nonetheless. ... show more

It seems like a perfect port to me. I have Galaga on multiple systems but none had the nifty no-shoot easter egg until I got this one today. It requires some patience but after dodging the two left bees and their missiles for around 10 minutes, I was able to do it. My skills are rusty so despite nobody shooting at me for the rest of the game, I still got wasted by the ships that dive-bomb. I'll get better, everybody. I tried to do the same trick on the fast shooting mode but it either didn't work or I didn't wait long enough. I'll try again. I did notice one small negative thing. While the game does save the top high score and seems to remember it just fine, even after powering off, my #2 score was reduced to the default 2000, while remembering my initials. A rather minor annoyance, but it should be mentioned. UPDATE: Yes, the no-shoot trick does work on the fast shooting mode as well as the standard mode. ... show more

Totally love it. Only wish the screen was a bit bigger as I wear reader glasses. It has the no shoot bug in it which you can activate on the first level.
