I really wish these didn’t have plastic and instead were made of all metal or some material that is less brittle. This is my second set. I have a slow close toilet lid which puts more strain on these. I recommend installing the two screws and metal rectangular plates as close as possible to the vertical metal prongs that the toilet bowl lid locks into. If you don’t, the plastic base will eventually break because of the leverage it puts on the vertical prongs. ... show more

I originally gave a 5-star review but upon further use of my toilet, it came to my realization that the seat was not secure. It did not move from side to side, but it would come unhinged upon getting up from the seat. From my pictures you can see the old hardware in comparison to the new hardware. The old is the smaller silver and black rings. As you can see the smaller black piece has the attached piece with two notches on it and is shorter, while the new one only has one and it taller. Since the new one only has one notch my seat would not lock into place, therefore causing it to lift up when I lifted up. Unfortunately it does not work for me. The black rubber pieces that hold the screws on the underside, plus the screws themselves I was able to use, but the other two pieces I was not. Universal is a specific term and does not apply to this product. The rubber sleeve fit in the the bowl holes, but the quick release posts are too large to work with a seat-lid from St. Thomas Creations. Fits many? Maybe. Universal? Absolutely not.
