  • 5 Years and Still Works Great!
So, I'm a civilian and don't have formal military training. What I do have is a lot of personal survival skills, a close proximity to the mountains and am generally the only one that "carries" in the group. If you hike in the Appalachian region, you know its important to have a little survival gear in your bag. This was the backpack that I bought to carry bottled water, TP, first aid, heavy blade knife and lastly, a hand howitzer with a little extra backup in the event a momma bear decided we were too close to the cubs we didn't see. Hiking with several kids can keep your attention outside of your immediate surroundings so all things need to be readily accessible and well stowed and fastened. What was equally important for us was to set the bag down, unzip and not have it fall over and dump its contents on the wet ground or fall in to the river. Through 5 years of hiking in all seasons, carrying a decent amount of "stuff", this pack has retained its shape, not really posed any issues of any kind and even still looks pretty decent. It shows no signs of wear besides a little dirt. I have no complaints at all and would suggest this as quickly for a regular back pack as I would for a tactical pack. Its outlasted the others at half the price. If you're thinking about this one, it's a lot of bang for the buck. If you're more focused on branding, it's still a decent brand name and lastly, this has not been the least bit uncomfortable or posed any ergonomic issues through the years. ... show more

  • Still using it
Bought this backpack on February 26, 2018. Still using and happy with it. Washed couple of times. Zippers working. No issues at all.

  • Poor quality stitching, 2L water bladder doesn't fit
I was on a budget for a tactical backpack so I know the market I'm looking in. I wasn't expecting a "trail rated" pack that could take weeks of abuse, trailblazing in the Rockies. Just a replacement of my daily carry pack that could hold my stuff and double as a decent day hike pack for water and essentials (food, water, small tools, med kit, etc). I settled on the SOG because the reviews looked favorable, the description fit mostly what I was looking for and it was a name brand. Unfortunately I wound up disappointed. The very first thing I noticed when I opened up, the bag was a lot of loose stitching. There were frayed threads all over the bag. The pictures show only a few of the places where stitching was loose. In one place the stitching was not complete, and would certainly rip through with just daily use. Loose stitching, IME, will become ripped out stitching in very short order, usually when you are about 3 miles from the car and fresh out of duct tape. I also was disappointed that the main compartment did not fully open. The zipper does not go all the way to the base of the bag, it stops at the elastic for the bottle holder. I also could not fit my 2 L water bladder in the sleeve without it, bunching up. The flimsy Velcro that's meant to hold the weight of a full water bladder will certainly rip loose. Even if I was confident in the bladder being held securely, I could not find the pass-through port for the hose, the bag advertises one and illustrates the location on the tag, but it's not there. I think this was a factory defect. I cannot comment on how this bag performs through a hike or daily carry, because I'm returning it due to the problems mentioned. I can say that this bag will likely not suit my needs. It has too few compartments for larger items, with only one main compartment, which it shares with the thin water sleeve. and one exterior smaller compartment. There is no laptop sleeve, so that's not going to work for me either. It also appears that it would be uncomfortable on an extended hike due to a lack of sufficient padding. On the positive side, it has decent quality materials and lots of Molle attachment points if you would like to expand it. If you were looking for an inexpensive "trunk" bag to keep emergency items or a grab-and-go bag in a pinch then it may be good for that, but as a daily carry or quality day hike pack I'd look elsewhere. ... show more

  • Great tactical daypack
This is by far the most complete and durable tactical daypack out there. The nylon of the bag I believe is 1000d.the molle loops fit all my molle pouches, very comfortable and able to breath very good.I now had this tactical daypack for around a month and a half and its been through it all,and holds up every single time.the velcro patch areas are well made, because I know that on cheap backpacks that the velcro will start to peel of.not the case here.I also know that this tactical daypack will take a water bladder,I do not know what size though and i dont have one (yet) Iv seen some reviews say that the zippers can get stuck, but sice there built to be rugged then yes thell get a little snagged, but no problem for me.I have seen the reebow and 511 tactical daypack and i'd still take thus one every time.I would like for the water bottle holder to have like, a drainage hole, but that is totally fine.I ALMOST wish that the holder was not there as it hinders me adding more molle attachments.Another comment one the zippers is: I like how the zippers keep out water, ulike some other daypack brands. But these zippers do a terrific job at keeping out the moisture. The mesh used on the inside pouches are not the cheap stuff on other bags, but is however durable and rugged. The daypack has roughly two smaller sections for your smaller tactical or survival gear and one large for larger gear. Also the main compartment has four drain holes which youd expect tactical daypacks to have, but some dont.One. thing I must complain about is that the molle straps could have been better quality and durable and rugged.but for the price it gets the job done.Like I said previously I think the bag is made with nylon 1000d,I dont think the molle straps are through.A little less denier.I'M NOT saying that the straps are junk. ... show more
