  • Best of the best.
Style: laptop
I have owned the last five iterations of the Titan, starting with the GT76. All have progressively been moving to this 18HX AI. This is easily the best and least troublesome. The last GT77 iteration might have been the most powerful overall with the i9-13980HX, but still had the 4090 as the GPU. The first 18HX was a disappointment and I immediately gave it to my son. Kept the GT77 for myself. But this18HX AI is the best of the series by far by any measure I can find. ... show more

  • Best performing gaming laptop on the market
Style: laptop
This thing WORKS. Expensive? Yes. But there's nothing I've thrown at it that it can't handle. Any AAA game, anything. The fans do spin up a lot, but that's the price you pay for rock solid, smooth performance. See my review of the Acer Predator. Broken out of the box. Almost nothing ran on it. I was late to return, so it's in a closet. This is the kind of computer I meant to purchase. Zero regrets. ... show more

  • An incredible laptop with some downsides
Style: laptop
First off, I'm a long time MSI laptop user having purchased their laptops for 10+ years now as well as having bought the Titan series starting with the GT-75 so make of that what you will. In addition to gaming, I also work in 3D animation and video production so having mobility and power in a compact form is of the utmost importance and these laptops usually never disappoint. Upsides: The presentation of this laptop is exquisite and another improvement over the previous generations. The power of this laptop is not to be trifled with as this mammoth can handle the most demanding AAA game titles at their highest settings and in terms of animation, I find my renders to be twice as fast as the GT-77 series. The built in speakers are also pretty decent with some nice bass added in. The 4k screen with 120hz refresh rate is just chefs kiss and the overall look of everything is great. One huge positive I've found is this laptop doesn't get nearly as hot as any of the previous laptops I've used. Those laptops would get so hot sometimes, it almost burned to the touch. Even with the most demanding games and animation programs I've used, the surface temperature on the Titan 18 remains relatively cool and the fan noise is noticeably more quite than its predecessors which could start to sound like a jet taking off from the runway. I typically always have these laptops plugged in so in terms of battery life, I couldn't really say whether it's better or not but I will say, the external battery is much more compact than previous generations and they've also returned the location of the plug to the back of the computer. They've also moved the vents on the sides of the computer inward, a huge plus. The previous generations had plastic vents that ran along the side of the computer and if you're always on the go like me, wear and tear WILL takes it toll and those plastic vents used to always break. Now that the vents are pushed in and no longer plastic, it's clear the engineers have done their homework and have more than likely eliminated the issue of plastic bits breaking off your valuable laptop. Downsides: It might be this laptop in particular, but some of the usb slots behave abnormally when it comes to using the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless headphones. Sometimes they work with the base station, sometimes they don't, making communication and audio playback troublesome (everything is updated on both ends). My next issue is sometimes for whatever reason, the computer will stutter for a moment or so. Whether I'm playing a game, animating, or just browsing the web, it will momentarily freeze for just a second or two (clean computer with clean installs). No big deal if I'm just casually doing something, but when it comes to competitive gaming where every moment counts, the stutter can be annoying and in some instances, unacceptable, especially for a laptop that exceeds $5,000. There should be NO issues for a laptop of this price and caliber, period. I'll keep an eye on both of these issues and see if it gets better or worse. The touch pad is an enormous step backwards in terms of functionality. The GT-75 was THE de facto touch pad with great responsiveness and solid right and left click buttons built separately from the touch pad. I could actually game on that touch pad competitively it was that good. The GT-77 took a major step backwards with the click buttons built in to the touch-pad like any other standard laptop. Now with the Titan 18 HX, the touch pad is barely usable. You can hardly tell you're clicking on the touch pad and because the touch pad is solidified with the rest of the laptop (no separation or gaps), it's extremely clunky to use. Double tapping and clicking in general is now much more difficult than it needs to be (clicking and dragging borderline impossible) and as far as I'm concerned, makes using an external mouse a MUST to avoid dealing with selection issues. This is a case of fashion over function and the biggest blemish of this laptop by far. Overall, this laptop is everything I envisioned it being besides the touch pad and the issues mentioned. The power is second to none and the visuals are top shelf. If you can get this laptop at a discount, do NOT hesitate. Unless you're a touch pad crazed lunatic like me, you will not be disappointed with this new generation of MSI Titan laptops. P.S. - If you're reading this MSI, PLEASE return to form and make the touch pad more like the Titan GT-75 for future models. ... show more
