  • Beautiful work of art
I've been waiting patiently for it to be released and MSI didn't disappoint. This is a beautiful machine. I really like the understated look of it. It lives up to it's namesake. I've not had a chance to put it through it's paces to test it's performance yet as I only received it yesterday. But just sitting here doing everyday things, it is a very quiet laptop. I fired up a couple of games to test out the gpu, but the fan remained silent. The OLED screen is simply gorgeous. It's very bright and crisp, and the colors pop with nice dark blacks. The speakers are loud, surprising for a laptop that is so slim. The music is crisp with no distortion, though the bass isn't quite as deep as one might want. It's a bit pricey due to the recent spike in memory prices, but I think it it's worth it as I'm replacing a 12 year old gaming laptop. ... show more

  • Amazing!
Amazing! That’s all what I have to say. It literally ruins everything that you throw at it. But I do recommend a fan underneath it to keep it cool! But other than that Amazing!

  • Easily the best and most fun 4/5 star item I've used
I am a PC gamer with 35+ years of experience gaming and 20+ of building my own PCs. I have worked in the field as well and am generally an enthusiast user of these devices. I will start with the "great" of this device. 1) Really "tight" build quality and feel. My other laptops in recent times have included Dell XPS13 9360 , XPS15 (same gen), Dell Latitude 7490, Latitude 2-1, a Lenovo Slim, and my current daily use Thinkpad P14s. I would compare the feel of the build quality as being similar so far to the XPS series of dells, which is better than I expected. There is no wobble or real flex. Excellently done for a consumer machine. 2) Shockingly good speakers, although my expectations were comically low. But still they're good! 3) The screen is really nice for gaming. It seems to handle text alright as well, I just simply do not use this device in that way much. I have had no complaints at all about the screen for general use. 4) General hardware specs and potential are good. 32gb of ram and a mobile 5070ti 12gb isn't anything to laugh at. I appreciate that there are two m.2 nvme slots for hard drives, with one remaining available as configured for me. The "good": 1) The keyboard is good, but I'm not wowed by it. I don't hate it either. For general use it is actually nice, for gaming I don't really like it. It would do ok in a pinch but I'd still probably use an external keyboard if this was my only device to game on. 2) Port selection is completely adequate. Two USB-C and you don't have to use either for charging if you don't want, because there is a third "main" charging port. I do not think average users will need more ports than this has. Ethernet, HDMI, two USB-A, headphone as well. 3) Overall size/feel of the device, besides the good build quality, is very good. It is "possible" to sit there in bed with it to browse on if you needed but it is kind of large for doing so. It clocks in at ~4 lbs though, which isn't too bad. 4) Battery life seems decent enough. I didn't run any tests on it other than to see if it "went down" while I was plugged in and gaming, which I got mixed results on in the same game during different sessions. It went down a few% after maybe 30 minutes during my first test, but not at all during the second test. It is possible it was also background downloading at that point, since it was fresh-er out of the box. The "mediocre": MSI's software package. It isn't terrible, it is actually on par or better than some other ones I've used. But that isn't saying much. It's ALMOST terrible. It is functional though, so at least theres that. I could not see a way to set a custom fan curve even though reading about the software suggests you should be able to. I don't think its necessary out of the box to change the fans, but I did look and see what it let me change. The biggest "useful" part of it is probably that you can change the RGB on the keyboard. The "bad": 1 TB hard drive on a $3100 gaming computer. Yes, its a sign of the times. No, I don't care. It is still a reality that many people would logically need to purchase/add additional storage to this device to get the full functionality out of it. It is already difficult to judge value in this category and this doesn't help, because it is difficult to not feel like you need to invest another few hundred dollars to take advantage of this machine. I checked to see if this unit supported m.2 SATA as well as m.2 NVME and so far my research indicates no, but I have refused to open this device up yet. I try to keep my reviews based on what is possible/probable for average users- ie, no modification. It is ok that it doesn't support SATA but it would have been nice and alleviated some of my issue with the storage. Now in terms of gaming performance, I have tried 3 games (all at the 2500x1600 screen native screen res). Game 1 was Barotrauma, a 2d simulation game that is more CPU intensive than GPU and it ran flawlessly, which I expected. My main computer is a 16 thread / 64gb/RTX4080S desktop and it matched that with no issue. But that game was more to establish a baseline that it performed as expected. Game 2 was 2021's Chivalry 2, a somewhat poorly optimized UE4 engine game. This game can chug along on decent spec computers if you max the settings and try for high FPS. I was able to get ~180 fps sustained with DLSS performance mode using a mix of "good" to "epic" level graphics, with shadows turned to medium. I switched to quality mode and was still getting good fps but it was noticeably dipping up and down, so I capped it to 120 and it more or less pinned at 120 on those settings. Game 3 was Baldur's Gate 3, running around the "lower city" area, which has a lot of buildings and textures etc to load. I would actually rank this as the most "stressful" of the 3 I tried in terms of how much heat the laptop was generating (and doing a decent job of venting). I ran it on Ultra preset with DLSS Quality mode enabled and while I did see one dip down to 60 fps, it spent more time above 100 than below it. This is not really a game you need high FPS for, so it was basically as good as you would realistically ever need this game. I should note that for all 3 games, I tried it in a room with ambient temperature of 80F. Normally I game in climate controlled room but I specifically wanted to test this in a sub-optimal place. Fans were of course running but the laptop maintained performance. I was impressed. I tried a cooling pad as well and it seemed to prolong the point at which fans came on loudly. You should expect that you will need the provided AC adapter to game with for anything intensive- I tried using my 135w USB-C and it was the only time the laptop struggled. I'm not sure if the USB-C on this unit is even rated that high, or what its rated for. Either way, USB-C charging will not provide enough for strenuous tasks on this unit- at least not the ones I tried. All in all I was very pleased with the opportunity to receive and review this model, it is a beautiful and performant laptop. You can adjust the keyboard so it isnt at all "gamery" and the laptop itself looks like a normal premium home use laptop. It was able to cool itself adequately. The only true letdown is the 1TB hard drive, it simply won't be enough for somebody using this device for its intended purpose I think. Similar to a porsche with a 1 gallon/4 litre gas tank. Any of the other issues I had with this laptop were mainly due to the annoyance of Windows 11 or came down to personal preference (ie, the trackpad, which actually feels great and works very well, is not my preference). I would also prefer if the USB-C was on the other side or one on each side but there are electrical engineering reasons for this. If you found this review helpful please mark it as such, I don't get anything out of it but it lets me know that I talked about something useful and will try to keep doing that if so. ... show more

  • A decent 16" laptop wrapped around an RTX 5070Ti. If you need that GPU it's a good value.
This MSI Stealth AI+ has a sleeker aesthetic in my opinion than earlier MSI laptops and other laptops with similar specs. While still relying on stepped regions rather than proper tapering, the design nonetheless has the appearance of looking thinner than it is. The eased angles and massive trackpad are distinctly… well plainly… MacBook Pro. That’s fine: great artists steal and all. We’re not cheaping out here, but still it’s nice to see the 240 Hz QHD+ 16” screen actually looks and feels like those numbers suggest it should. Aside from some Elegoo inspired line art on the top lid, this looks respectable. Considering the performance, this runs fairly quiet... Obviously cooling fans kick in more when performance is being used. Overall, build quality and design first impressions: this is a premium experience. Of course, wake the beast and that 4 zone RGB keyboard kicks any sense of muted sophistication (or stealth, for that matter) right out the window. I know, I know - this a gaming laptop, and some gamers like tacky lights on their keyboard, but when my $15 tablet case keyboard has this, it loses some appeal. But is this a gaming laptop? Is this an AI laptop… wait is it an AI gaming laptop? With the MSI Mystic Light Windows app, you can adjust this to a normal static color. I haven’t checked if this setting sticks in ROM, but since mine will be running Linux, this matters to me - the process of booting to windows only to change the keyboard lights would be annoying, but not being able to change the keyboard lights at all would be worse. My model has a series 3 Panther Lake Core Ultra 9 386H. That’s a lot of letters and numbers. Simply put, Intel highest end mobile processors are starting to catch up to the standard entry level M series both in power consumption (25W / 80W Turbo) and performance (well… multicore anyway), while also continuing to lift Apple’s codenames from 23 years ago. With roughly 10-11 hours of standard use from the large 90 Whr battery, we aren’t in impressive territory for a portable, but this isn’t like the gaming laptops of yesteryear that had a glorified internal UPS. Notably, you can’t enable full power “Apex Mode” on battery, likely because discharging that battery in 30 minutes would make for bad press. What is a bit disappointing is the meager 1TB PCIe 4.0X4 NVMe drive. Luckily this laptop features a second empty PCIe 4.0X4 m.2 slot, but utilizing the ultra 9’s dedicated 5.0x4 NVMe lanes would have been nice… even if it was wired to the empty slot. I imagine this was a thermal decision given this laptop’s thinness - cooling over performance. I know times are tough, but a 1TB 4.0x4 drive is hard to swallow at this price point. A lot of gamers and AI coders will probably keep this as a system drive, and that’s kind of a waste. This does have honest to goodness TB4. With this, (some) USB4 or (most) TB 3-5 enclosures can tunnel up to 4 lanes of PCIe 3.0 to external drives. TB4 is a bit outdated in this class, but it’s something. That’s not MSI’s fault; Intel doesn’t support TB5 on their newest flagship mobile processors almost 3 years after Intel released the standard. That’s odd. Here’s the thing, if you’re considering paying this much on something that isn’t a MacBook Pro, you’re buying this for one reason - the RTX 5070Ti. If that’s not true, stop here and find better options at half this price. If you are part of the target audience, a gamer who needs RT cores or a coder who needs tensor cores or CUDA acceleration in a portable package, this is for you. You’re paying a premium for mobile use, and paying a 30-40% performance tax along with that (almost certainly worse than that on battery), and that RTX is (and being an 8 lane PCIe 5.0 accelerator in a slim laptop - probably needs to be) soldered to the board, so you can’t resell this component or upgrade later. That makes this an excellent laptop for the price, but only if you need a high end Nvidia dGPU in a reasonably thin and portable form factor (I wouldn’t call it a laptop with Apex Mode on), with a good screen and decent - but underwhelming for the price and application - components and connectivity. If you don’t need all of that, you’re paying a premium for depreciating hardware that you don’t need. ... show more

  • Packs a lot of power
This is definitely geared toward gamers, but it’s also perfectly capable of handling everyday use. You can browse, stream, work, edit photos, multitask, and do all the normal laptop stuff without any problem. The difference is that when you want to game or run something demanding, you have all that extra power available. The QHD+ 240Hz OLED display is probably my favorite part. Everything looks incredibly crisp, colors are beautiful, and the high refresh rate makes the screen feel exceptionally smooth. With the RTX 5070 Ti, Core Ultra 9, and 32GB of RAM, performance is excellent and there’s plenty of headroom for demanding games and applications. It’s also nice having a 1TB NVMe SSD and Wi-Fi 7, and despite being a powerful gaming machine, the design is fairly sleek. Pros: * Beautiful QHD+ OLED 240Hz display * Excellent gaming performance * 32GB RAM for easy multitasking * Powerful Core Ultra 9 processor * Fast 1TB SSD * Wi-Fi 7 * Can easily handle everyday tasks in addition to gaming Cons: * 1TB may not feel like much if you install a lot of large games * Fans get noticeable when the laptop is working hard * Battery life isn’t going to match a lightweight productivity laptop Overall, this is clearly a gaming laptop first, but that doesn’t mean it’s limited to gaming. It works great as an everyday computer too. The price makes much more sense when you consider the high-end gaming hardware, OLED display, and 240Hz refresh rate you’re getting. If you want one laptop that can handle normal daily use but also has serious gaming power when you need it, this is a great option. ... show more
