  • Ryzen 5000 Ready
Was looking for a mini itx form that wouldn't break my bank and worked with AMD. Spent a lot of time comparing but all my comparisons had comments like "poorly constructed" or "not 5000 series ready without flash" and I wasn't into it so I went with this one. I put a Ryzen 5600x in and it worked perfectly. I will most likely be updating bios eventually once I muster up the courage (there's been too many power drops lately with rain). I'm not SUPER knowledgeable on mobos but this one checks all my boxes. If I had some wishes, it would be to add at least one more fan port but I got around this using a hub with sata power and seeing as it's an ITX frame...maybe more ports isn't necessary but just be aware I guess. Also would love an onboard power button but that seems to be premo now :P Overall I think it's pretty solid! OOHHH with the CPU fan though...make sure you think about the size of that in relation to the memory you buy because I had to flip the cpu cooler so that the AMD logo on the stock Wraith that sort of juts out was on the left instead of right. Otherwise it wouldn't have fit though now the clearance on the left is SUUUUPER close. Just a point of caution. • Works great
I initially purchased the gigabyte B550i motherboard, but had a lot of problems, looked online and many people was having the exact same problem. I switched to this, and now my pc is working perfectly.

  • RAM issues, sent to MSI 3 times, sent it back unrepaired 3 times
Build: R5 5600X/ R7 5700X, 32GB KLEVV and 16GB G.Skill Trident both on the QVL, RTX 3060ti. I initially had this in a Silverstone ITX build. It worked ok for a little but, but started having issues crashing and booting. I noticed the error code said it was a RAM issue. I pulled the RAM, tested the kit in a different build for a family member with an R7 5800X and it worked perfectly fine. Chose to leave the RAM with that build. I bought G.Skill Trident RAM for Ryzen to test on the motherboard, got it to work only with one stick in DIMM A. I couldn’t get it to boot with both RAM sticks installed or with a RAM stick in DIMM B – so off to MSI it went. A month later, I finally get it back and shoved it back into the ITX build. Shoved both RAM sticks in and still doesn’t boot (CPU error code this time). Tried one RAM stick and it booted. Slipped the 2nd one in and it didn’t boot. I just happened to have a handful of 5600X, 5700x, 5800X processors laying around…yea right, all of them are in builds so I had to tear down other builds to verify my components were working, and they were. Pain in the rear. All my stuff worked, including the RAM and multiple CPUs and the GPU, and narrowed the issue to the motherboard. Off to MSI it went for the CPU error code. A month later, I get the motherboard back. By this time, I moved the motherboard from the cramped ITX case slicing my fingers into a full sized ATX case for some breathing room. Guess what, same issue. CPU error code with both RAM sticks installed, only booted with one stick in either slot. Contacted MSI, they provided me with a BETA BIOS that finally got the motherboard to boot with both RAM sticks installed. The only issue is that the computer was unstable. It was constantly crashing. It also didn’t boot all the time with both DIMM modules populated, but would if only one was in either DAMM A or B. It was all over the place, when it was booted up either with one stick or both – it was highly unstable. Fresh copy of Windows 10, all drivers, latest updates. So they asked me what RAM I was using, I gave them the model number of the Ryzen Approved G.Skill Trident RAM and they said it wasn’t compatible. They asked me to acquire RAM from the QVL list under the Ryzen 5xxxx list of approved RAM. After closed to a hundred bucks, I did (KLEVV), and it’s doing the same thing (throwing the CPU code). They asked me to buy different RAM from the QVL list – really? I got some G.Skill Trident I knew I could use with a different system that was on the QVL, and same thing. It didn’t matter what RAM I used, the motherboard behavior was the same, CPU error code when it didn’t boot, and would only boot with one stick of RAM, very seldom with both sticks of RAM and when it did boot up, it was unstable. So they asked me to take it to a repair shop to have them test it with their RAM….Really? I called a local shop I frequent and asked them what kits they had (2X16GB) and none of them were on the narrow QVL list. They finally approved a 3rd RMA, this time I asked for a replacement. After close to a month, they sent it back in the same condition I sent it to them. tested it with multiple RAM kits (on the QVL) and it won’t boot at all, it is still stuck on the CPU error code. I can no longer get it to boot with just one stick of RAM. Three months of shipping it back and forth – they only paid for the 2nd time it shipped out, hundreds of dollars on RAM on the QVL list, and hundreds of dollars for this motherboard. Waste of time and money. Since I had moved this board to a full sized ATX case, I ultimately bought an ASROCK ITX for my Silverstone ITX case and what do you know – worked out of the box with all the same components. Went back in to set up XMP and had it on for a straight week no issues. Steve from Gamers Nexus is right, MSI is a trash company. For the folks who have not had this RAM issue, count your lucky stars because I have noticed several others with issues similar to mine. Unacceptable considering the price point of this motherboard. ... show more

  • Cable placement woes.
Motherboard works great on my setup. AMD Ryzen 7 5800x. Works right out of the box. Easily configureable. Settings in BIOS were straight forward. I'm an avid over locker ut I have not done it with this board yet. Only issue I have with the board is the placement of the audio, power, and USB headers are right above the pcie slot and behind the m.2 drive cooler. Was a pain routing all those connectors to the headers without impacting the installation of my 6800XT. It has a board tab that slides down in the front of the pcie connector so I had to route all the cables straight to the back of the case and then down and around the bottom of the motherboard under the GPU. Mystic light is the 3 pin 5v style so it didn't work with my 4 pin led strips that I used on my last MSI board with a i7-7700k. ... show more

  • Very good ITX motherboard with Type C header
This is the solid choice for AMD ITX motherboard with Type -C header. I paired this with the AMD Ryzen 5800X and so far so good.
