I mainly use this computer at my desk after I get off work so this laptop is perfect for me. I love the RGB keyboard! I’m no keyboard expert or anything but just typing on the keyboard feels great. When it comes down to gaming this thing is a beast it can run pretty much anything at 1080p ultra to high settings and get 60+FPS most of the games Doom 2016 actually hits 200fps some times. This laptop would be perfect if it weren’t for the battery life which lasts around 2- 2 1/2 hours which isn’t the greatest but isn’t the worst either. But I work 10 hour days at work so I don’t get out much so 99% of the time the laptop is plugged in anyways so I don’t really have to worry about battery life. The speakers are decent but they aren’t the best I have heard but for a laptop I think they are more than acceptable. I was hesitant to buy this laptop originally because Amazon's product page is rather vague when it comes to a lot of the reasons people might be looking at this laptop. Before I purchased it I wanted to know more about the panel in particular. Now that I have it, all I have learned is that it is a 60hz panel. Another thing I wanted to know before purchasing was the exact RAM specifications so that I could purchase another 8gb stick of RAM and install it right away. The RAM in mine was Samsung M471A1K43CB1-CTD. It is an 8gb 2666MHz CL19 stick of memory. It can be purchased on Amazon for $35-40. For the price I paid ($550), I think it is still a great deal, but if you are looking to purchase this laptop towards the end of 2019 (or later) for more than $600, I would wait for a better deal with a low tier 20 series card in it. ... show more

Great laptop, except for the trackpad mouse buttons (minus 1-star). You have to apply way to much force just for a single mouse click. It basically renders your trackpad useless because of the mouse buttons. I suggest you purchase a bluetooth mouse or trackball to use, and an external bluetooth keyboard. It will save you a lot of frustration caused by those ridiculous/unusable mouse buttons. Upon receipt, I immediately installed 2 - 16GB ram sticks (Patriot Viper Steel DDR4 16GB 2666MHz CL18 SODIMM Memory Module), which is the max ram limit (32Gb ram) upgraded the harddrive to a 1Tb NVME M.2 drive (ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB 3D NAND NVMe Gen3x4 PCIe M.2 2280 Solid State Drive R/W 3500/3000MB/s SSD (ASX8200PNP-1TT-C)). Then I added a Crucial MX500 1TB 3D NAND SATA 2.5 Inch Internal SSD. It's been running great. Although I'm not a gamer, I am a programmer (software developer), which means I'm normally running 3 or four different versions of Microsoft Visual Studio Enterprise at once, along with several browsers and 10 or 20 other apps and utilities, simultaneously, while watching local and streaming 1080p videos, all at once; and this laptop is still blazingly fast, even with everything I throw at it. I keep it turned on, lid closed, underneath the coffee table, and use my external bluetooth keyboard (Logitech K830 Illuminated Living-Room Keyboard), bluetooth trackball (Logitech MX Ergo Wireless Trackball Mouse), bluetooth speakers (Anker Soundcore Boost 20W), and external monitor (ViewSonic VX2252MH 22 Inch). I needed a new laptop mainly for school because my old laptop suddenly stopped working. When I received this laptop, I was impressed by the screen quality. There was no screen glare like my old laptop. This laptop is also very lightweight so it's easy to carry around. If you want to play multiple games with this laptop, I suggest getting an external hard drive. I play a lot of PC games and because the space for this laptop isn't much, I put any games I download from Steam into the external hard drive. Mine came with a broken headphone jack. I didn't use it with headphones right away so it was too late to get a replacement by the time I found out. I know msi has been getting awards for best gaming pc but this laptop feels like cheap quality and one of the parts not working before i even used it is further evidence of that. The screen is like how laptop screens used to look, like if its at slightly the wrong angle from your vision, everything's in shadow. My phone and mac have more colors or something because this looks washed out. It's been a few years since I've owned a Windows so maybe it's standard but I know they have the surface and such that uses better tech. Anyways, it was able to play games, just not with max graphic settings. The battery drained over 1%/minute while gaming, but as long as it's plugged in, it doesn't drop. While typing a document, the battery lasts hours longer. (I was using it at 0% screen and keyboard brightness) Also, i hate the huge trackpad because i can't type without accidentally mouse-clicking. ... show more

As a college student, who's already in a lot of debt, money isn't really a resource I can spend frivolously. So when my old laptop, which was a $200-$300 , became water damaged. I became quite worried. I needed a cheap laptop that could perform the school work I needed to get done and I really didn't want to give up gaming. The MSI GL63 ended up being a good compromise between cost and functionality, allowing me to still play games and not have to skip meals for the next few months.
