  • Great Machine at a Great Price
Capacity: 8GB | 512GB SSD
I purchased a desktop 2 years ago and didn't realize I'd be playing as many PC games as I currently am (have mostly been a console and mobile gamer in the past). I wanted an inexpensive, yet powerful rig that could handle the graphics load I needed it to. In addition, I didn't want anything too flashy, and something I could take into the office if required. The GF63 perfectly checks all my boxes. Having just purchased a desktop (and outfitted it with all the bells and whistles) just 2 years ago, I didn't want to spend a lot on a new machine. Once I settled on the GF63 I shopped around and Amazon had the best price for the configuration (i.e. most memory, SSD capacity size, etc.). I especially loved the stylish, yet tone downed aesthetic of the machine. Even with the keyboard LEDs off, the MSI dragon logo on the lid says there's something a little different that sets this laptop apart from your standard office machine. Speaking of the keyboard, a lot of reviews I read mentioned that is was mushy or too soft to type on. I've found nothing of the sort. The keys offer good feedback and have nice travel distance (though it maybe a little short for some), and I found the typing experience to be pretty good. In addition, the screen is crisp and bright, and it handles colors and animations perfectly. The SSD handles boot up in under 10 seconds, and has plenty of room considering we save most things to one cloud or another these days. My one and only complaint about this machine is the memory. At 8 GB the machine should be faster than it is. Simple everyday tasks like saving a WORD file can take way longer than expected. If you decide to buy this laptop make sure there's enough room in your budget to purchase a memory upgrade (I'm in the process of maxing mine up to 32 GB -- an extra $100 expense -- but even adding an additional 8 GB chip to increase overall memory to 16 GB should make a world of difference). I should also note that I keep my laptop plugged in so can't really speak to battery life. I'll end on another good note: bloat-ware. There was practically none to uninstall (just the usual Norton programs, Microsoft Office trial version, and a redundant media program). There are a couple of MSI proprietary programs that are borderline, but I've chosen to just ignore them for now. All-in-all this is a great machine that I highly recommend if you're in the market for new gaming rig. ... show more

  • Incredibly good.
Capacity: 8GB | 512GB SSD
An incredibly well priced laptop. When I bought it at $699 comparable laptops when for close to $1000. I've had it for almost 4 months now and it can do everything I want to. I can play games and have numerous things going at the same time with no lag (provided you have the right settings and/or plugged in). The only critique would be that the battery life is not the best especially if you are doing anything that requires a decent amount or resources. It does run a bit hot (not always) but that is to be somewhat expected for something doing a million things at once. You could only get a better laptop set up if you paid more for it. This was one of my favorite purchases especially during covid era considering I had to work from home (and play). Treat yourself. ... show more

  • Great value for the money, just a few cons.
Capacity: 8GB | 512GB SSD
Update 8/22/2025: The issue of it turning off and losing WiFi if I was away for a few minutes seemed to resolve itself at some point. I actually forgot I had that issue back in 2022. I continued to use the laptop up until this past month with no issues. I finally decided to upgrade for a 4K capable laptop, but this laptop still works great for 1080p. Update 7/14/2022: laptop still works well for my needs. A few new issues lately. The laptop sometimes decides to turn off (not just the screen, the whole thing) if you’re not actively using the mouse. Also when it does this I often have to reconnect to WiFi manually. I’ve tried updating everything and clearing out files but the problem persists. Still not enough to warrant looking for a new one yet. First off, this laptop looks and feels great and although I haven't had the chance to test many games yet it seems to do well. Since there's plenty of info on the Pros of this laptop (value for the money being a big one) I thought I'd mention a few Cons that really stick out to me. 1) The very first thing I noticed was the power plug-in location. The hole to plug in the power cord is located on the left side of the laptop roughly in the middle. This is a weird location in general but on this laptop it makes even less sense because it means that if you run the cord behind your laptop (like most people) the cord will be directly in front of the fan that blows out the heat from the laptop. This was nearly a deal-breaker for me. 2) This hasn't been an issue yet since I rarely use the laptop unplugged but the laptop boasts 7hrs of battery life unplugged. First off, this doesn't strike me as an impressive stat since my previous laptop was 12hrs. Second; this is only if you don't optimize your settings for gaming. One way the laptop tries to save power is by using the integrated Intel graphics whenever possible. If you tell it to always use the GTX 1060 (as most people will do for gaming) it will be a stronger drain on the battery. 3) The GTX 1060 in this laptop is the Max-Q variant. While this name may make it sound like an upgrade, it is actually slower than the regular 1060. The Max-Q is designed for and used in lighter/thinner laptops but benchmarks show it is roughly 18-20% slower than the base 1060 model. This again might be a deal-breaker for some. All-in-all this is a great budget gaming laptop and you can't buy a gaming laptop this cheap and expect it to not have a few caveats. However I am considering returning it and spending the extra $200 for something less "limited" for lack of a better word. The 2020 model for $900 seems promising but has the same weird power inlet location. ... show more

Capacity: 8GB | 512GB SSD
I really liked gaming on this laptop. It works great, fps is always 60 or higher. It ran alot of games in high settings even Warzone that came out recently. The only thing I didn't like was battery life. You need to leave laptop plugged

Great laptop computer I bought for my son. He is able to do everything he needs to do, while also having great graphics and being able to play games if he needs to. I would recommend it.
