  • Worth every penny
Style: FHD 300Hz
I bought this machine to replace a 5 year old Asus laptop that I was really impressed with. This put my expectation bar on the low side, but then I looked at the price tag and my expectations went much higher. On the old machine, I had to run all my games at 1080p, and low to medium quality settings. This produced 20-30hz framerates on just about everything. When I bought Cyberpunk 2077, I had to run it on the absolute lowest quality settings, and it was in the 10hz frame rate range. I decided it was time to upgrade. The GE66 is monumentally better. I run Cyberpunk on the highest settings, and average 60fps. Every other game I run on ultra and get 60-120fps consistently. The CPU, RAM, Storage, and GPU seem to be well integrated so they work together well and are more than the sum of their parts. My only gripe is the audio. Theres some 3D sound driver crap that causes the sound to jump around in volume regardless of what I do to try to disable it. Sound will be perfect, then I'll turn or sidestep or move and the sound will drop in volume out of one or both speakers, and be barely audible for a few minutes, then suddenly be too loud... It jumps around like this every few minutes. Very annoying. In summary, it's definitely the best, most powerful, capable and awesome laptop I've ever used or heard of. It runs modern games at high framerate without any issue, looks spectacular, and sounds great, when the sound works, which is sometimes. ... show more

  • A premium gaming laptop that delivers
Style: FHD 300Hz
If you're considering this laptop, you likely know what you're looking for. There is a lot to love about this machine, and after putting it through its paces, I'm very satisfied with the purchase. Pros: Build quality is excellent, as I usually find to be the case with MSI machines. Plenty of I/O, a killer GPU, and top-notch benchmarks make this a great laptop and conceivably a potential desktop replacement. Thermals are a stand-out - running high-end games at ultra, I the GPU averages about 57 degrees, and has never topped 76 degrees even at heavy load. Upgrading is a snap - I filled the extra M.2 slot with a 2TB SSD, and it took maybe 10 minutes total. Obviously this thing is going to run anything you throw at it; admittedly mine has mostly been on easy mode running Valheim, but I ran Cyberpunk 2077 on it just to see what it could do, and it barely broke a sweat. Cons: If Intel is a deal-breaker for you, you likely didn't even read this far. HD instead of QHD is a sacrifice, but the monitor is definitely nice, though I just can't fathom what use 300Hz would ever serve. It definitely looks like a gaming laptop - if you want to go a bit more covert with your gaming, the MSI Stealth series is probably more your speed. Pros definitely outweigh the cons for me, and this laptop is everything I expected. ... show more

  • Is it worth it?
Style: FHD 300Hz
If you're looking for a beefy, thick, gaming laptop, then this it. The build is very nice as it is a beautiful blend of both metal and plastic. It does not feel cheap. It runs games beautifully as this has the RTX 3080 16GB variant graphics card. Battery is as expected in most gaming laptops. This laptop does get hot but with a riser, this laptop can vent the heat fine with its high RPM fans. The screen is beautiful and the RGB is stunning. MSI nails it with another gaming laptop. ... show more

  • Extremely poor hardware design
Style: FHD 300Hz
2 DAYS after it came in, the screen has lines running through it. I'm furious... I already gave away my old laptop (and after 2 days of setting this laptop up) and now, I am stuck. Hopefully the warranty is decent, but still upset that I'll be without my laptop for who knows how long for a brand new laptop. Update: it's been a month now without my laptop, and MSI wants me to pay over 10% of the cost of the brand-new laptop to repair the non-covered damage (I removed the sticker from the monitor, which apparently you aren't allowed to do). I will not be buying another MSI. Edit: After getting the screen repaired I have been using this laptop for a while, being extremely careful to not touch the monitor (extra padding in laptop case, moving as little as possible, etc). Well, after year the screen is starting to get an imprint where the raise is below the keyboard. I don't know why this monitor is so soft, but it's not even remotely worthy of being on a laptop or transported. I gave up my other laptop for this, and I will be buying that other brand now that it's time for a new one. Nothing is worth the stress of this monitor and it's extreme sensitivity to damage. ... show more

  • Choose a different seller
Style: FHD 300Hz
The seller is very difficult to work with. The ship it signature required, which is great if you never leave your house or if you don’t live in an apartment. Actually getting the items was a huge issue, and contacting the seller about it was impossible. The machine itself is exactly what I expected but dealing with this seller was a nightmare. Highly recommended going through someone else. ... show more

  • Probably overkill for what I need, but...
Style: FHD 300Hz
This laptop is a perfect for creatives who game on the side. Pros: It's a gaming rig at heart, so it's loaded (high tier GPU, useless RGB lighting and 300 hz refresh). But it is more than capable handling RAM hungry digital art/media programs. Cons: This is essentially a mobile desktop, so the battery life isn't great (4 hours -maybe- with balanced settings), and it is thicker and heavier than other offerings. Final Verdict: Expensive, heavy and thick... but leaves no doubt in its capabilities. ... show more
