  • Nice and quiet, oh, and powerful too.
Built a new PC that I am using with a 65" TCL (6-series) 4k TV. Originally, I went with a RX 590 to hold me over until the next generation comes. Unfortunately, I had nothing but problems with it and decided to spend more money and get something I knew wouldn't struggle at 1440p and also be decent at 4k. The MSI RTX 2060 Super Gaming X has been excellent so far. The TV is a 60hz panel so I have no interest in super high FPS. If the game allows, I set the limit to 60hz. With only certain intensive settings turned down a notch, I can play almost everything I have (Rise of the Tomb Raider, GTA V, Witcher 3, Just Cause 4, World War z) at 60fps with the rare drop down to 40fps if I'm running it in 4k. I researched for the quietest of the RTX 2060 supers and this one was always on the lists. I can say that this card has been perfectly quiet for my setup, which puts the PC about 10ft away from where we sit. I can barely hear the fans when playing a graphically intensive game like Rise of the Tomb Raider but nothing obtrusive and not much louder than my case fans. When playing GTA V at 4k, I don't really hear them at all. It's sitting in a Corsair Carbide 275R case which helps keep things quiet. The case isn't great for cooling but temps have been great so far. Using two 140mm fans and two 120mm fans in the case and I don't think the GPU temps have even reached 70c yet. I highly recommend the card but if you can wait until prices go back down to normal levels, I'd wait. I think the price went up $50 since my purchase of it. If you can get it closer to $400, it's definitely worth it. ... show more

  • Nice card for the $$
I bought a "used good" model for $358 and it was like new. I was tempted to go AMD but I do not like their new driver package install and I have read way too many people having issues and this card will be in a build for someone else so I want something that is as trouble-free as possible. The card performs similarly to a GTX 1080 level but used less power and less heat in the case. The card is basically silent even gaming it is very quiet. If you know what you are doing or like to play around the 5700 or 5700xt will give you a little more performance for the $$ according to benchmarks/testing that I have seen. One negative is that you have to install MSI software and KEEP it installed and active to turn off or change the lighting on the card. Some cards have a manual switch to turn the lights on or off or will store the lighting profile and you can uninstall the software and it will remember the lighting. This card needs the software installed or it goes "rainbow". ... show more

  • Incredible upgrade!
I bought this card to upgrade from a pair of Gtx 660's in SLI. I ran a couple benchmarks with the old cards and with this one. The scores I was getting were around 52 fps, with this card they were 162fps! As a plus, at full load, my rig pulls about 100 watts LESS. It's LOTS more fun playing Crysis 3 now! The fans almost never run unless gaming and even then, they are pretty quiet. A lot quieter than my old cards were. Installation was simple, since I was already using Nvidia cards. Just swapped them out and started it up. The outside box was pretty well destroyed, the inner box had one corner dented in a little bit. The card was packed in form-fitting foam and was completely undamaged. The lighting is neat but the Dragon Center RBG Mystic Lighting program took 4 installs before it worked. I like the factory 3 year warranty, hope I don't have to ever use it, although MSI's service seems to be better than some other companies...I won't name names, but if you read reviews, you can find out yourself which companies I'm talking about. All in all, I think I got my money's worth. ... show more

  • Great Card, awesome thermals
A great card for the money, I've trusted MSI and their cards for years and they didn't disappoint with this one. PROS- -Great value for the money, performance vs price is right in the sweet spot. -Great thermals, under heavy load the card never exceeded 60C -Play all modern games at ultra on 1080p 140+ fps -RGB backlit and side lights, can be controlled with their software -Slightly shorter in length compared to other previous msi cards. -supports ray tracing -8Gb of VRAM is a massive upgrade from the 4gb I was using before. CONS- -this card is thicc, it takes up 2 case slots but really goes to 2 and a half. If you have a small motherboard then you might have trouble using the other expansion slots. It covers my PCIe 2.0 slot completely. -more heavy than expected, this card is pretty heavy and creates an ever so slight sag when plugged and screwed in. This doesn't create a problem for me but its something to consider especially if you want to use a case that supports a sideways card connected with a ribbon. ... show more

  • Wonderful GPU for Triple A Gaming on Ultra Settings for 1080p
I run well over a hundred fps on ultra (1080p) in all sorts of superb looking triple A games. Playing The Witcher 3 on ultra at 120+ fps is something I never thought I'd experience. Wow. Also the back plate is super sturdy and underrated. I'm very pleased to see that no bending is visible after an extended time of being in my PC. I would certainly recommend this GPU to anyone who would like to experience the full extent of modern graphics and maintain high fps numbers at 1080p. I would actually like to get a monitor with a higher resolution to see what it can do beyond 1080p, but for now, 1080p is all I can speak for. It handles VR immensely well. Perfect card for VR users. +1 point for pretty colors. ... show more

  • Looks? Check. FPS? Check. Quality and Consistency? Well...
The 2060S is the latest (and most substantial) upgrade I’ve made to my PC originally built in May 2017. I came from an MSI 1060 6GB that performed like a champ. I sold it to a coworker and put the money towards a card that I hoped would give me higher, more consistent framerates in the triple-digit range than my 1060 (at 1080p). Currently, my three most oft-played games are Destiny 2, The Witcher 3 and Doom 2016. Doom runs like a champ on just about any hardware configuration, and even at 4K this card will barely break a sweat. Destiny 2 is all over the place, running the gamut between being a cakewalk (indoor locations mostly) and a potential chore (this tends to apply more to the CPU). Witcher 3 gives this card the greatest workout of the trio. With Nvidia Hairworks on, FPS typically sits in the 70’s. Turn that setting off and you’ll generally stay in the triple-digit range. So as far as raw, on-paper performance goes, the 2060S sounds like a killer. Combine that with the Gaming X’s lovely looks and it’s difficult to not be swooned. However, there are a couple additional points I’d like to make. First, my particular card has coil whine. This is an unfortunate occurrence that some people simply get stuck with, and it can be a dealbreaker or a mild inconvenience. My PC already runs loud while gaming thanks to its fans and the custom curve I have set for my CPU cooler which, when combined with gaming on either my speakers or headphones, can make the coil whine irrelevant. However, there are quieter moments in games that will make the coil whine almost painfully apparent. It doesn’t completely ruin the experience, but it definitely sours the purchase of a $400+ graphics card. Next is a contentious but also seemingly common observation: stutters and/or frametime spikes. While it’s entirely possible I may have experienced this with my 1060, I either didn’t notice them or they happened way less frequently. It’s also worth keeping in mind that my CPU is a 4 core/4 thread i5-7600K overclocked to 4.5GHz. It may have less breathing room than other, more modern CPUs, but generally speaking, games don’t use much more than 4 cores (if that). Yet with the 2060S, stutters from frametime spikes (which rarely coincide with any other metric changing) seem more frequent. I’ve attempted to solve this with just about every troubleshooting step under the sun, including multiple driver reinstallations (via DDU), changing performance and power management settings in both Windows and Nvidia control panel, rendering games at higher resolutions via DSR, and even a full Windows reinstallation. This includes wiping all three of my drives. These steps mitigate the issue, but it still inevitably pops up. Furthermore, I’ve done some research on this, and it appears that many other folks are experiencing similar issues, even with CPUs such as the 2600 (which have 6 cores/12 threads as opposed to mine). While this isn’t limited to the RTX cards, they definitely seem to be the most commonly affected. I’ve even heard of people selling their RTX cards for Pascal cards, calling such a shift an “upgrade.” I’m not entirely sure if this has to do with the specific unit I got or if it’s something else on a hardware, software and/or driver level, but as I’ve clearly pointed out, it is an issue. Sometimes I can look past it, but other times the stutters are quite distracting and sour my purchase more than the aforementioned coil whine. Even if it is a personal experience and everyone else that buys this card is content, it still makes me feel like I took one step forward and one to two steps back with my purchase. If you’re considering an RTX card, then tread lightly. Update: Bumping score to 4 stars. Since posting this review, I upgraded my CPU from a 7600K to a 2700X and have had a considerably superior experience in games. Spikes do still occur and the coil whine is still a factor, but my now-former quad-core was definitely a factor in the aforementioned symptoms. It's a bit easier for me to recommend this card, but the price is on the high-end when you can get theoretical better performance-per-dollar with a 5700 or 5700XT, at the potential expense of driver stability. ... show more

  • Flawless gaming
I got this GPU to replace my aging RX 480 and i am very happy with my purchases. This is my first Nvidia GPU i was with AMD since 2013 and i decided to go Team Green this go around with my new system. I have this GPU paired with a AMD Ryzen 5 3600 and 32GB OF RAM clocked at 3200MHZ . I play all of my games @ 1440P and was able to maintain a smooth 60 FPS. Im really glad i got this GPU everything in my new rig runs flawlessly compared to my old rig although for the price that i dropped on this GPU i could've got a RX 5700XT for the same price with alot more horsepower but at the time amazon did not have the 5700 XT that i wanted( 5700XT Taichi) but like i said im happy with my purchase. with the performance your getting with the GPU it basically the same as the RTX 2070 but just for a lower price. I highly recommend this GPU to anyone that has the budget for it ... show more

  • Both meanings of the word cool. Both meanings of the word cool.
I have a bit of a unique case-mod that features purely negative air pressure. I've had issues with more than one non-blower style cooler in the past. This card however stays adequately cool and quiet even running demanding games for hours on end. It's really surprised me. Aside from some very minor coil whine (I can only hear it with my ear to the vents), I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a solid upgrade. I bought it mainly for a better VR experience, and I've absolutely no regret. ... show more
