  • TITLE BEWARE! YOU MAY FALL IN LOVE TITLE BEWARE! YOU MAY FALL IN LOVE
PRO Let’s talk first, this charismatic GPU tends to catch your heart and possibly not let go!! I bought my first GPU mid February, had it shipped 13th of February. Built my first ever gaming PC. I instantly fell in love with this beast that can handle exactly what I needed it to do. Run PUBG. PUBG will run smooth. No problem what so ever. Okay, enough with the talk let’s get started. Equipped with the best cooling for any GPU out there. Running any game glancing over at MSI afterburner I notice my gpu never goes over 85 degrees. That is good. TWIN FRZR you did an amazing performance. Despite the best cooling, it is quiet. Like REALLY quiet. On idle mode, web surfing, this GPU will not make a noise -- thought my life was on mute for a second. Everything that it has to do works with no, ZERO, malfunctions. Runs MSI DRAGON CENTER, MSI MYSTIC LIGHT, and MSI DRAGON EYE all works and do what it needs to do. CON Might be a little bit price overwhelming, but hey, all GPU’s are like that right now aren’t they? I’d get another one if I needed….. or even if I don’t need it I just made a second purchase of the same exact GPU through Amazon, got it delivered 20th. Waiting to have time for myself to do an SLI so I can have two beasts in a case. Going with the first CON, this will make you open your wallet!!!! BECAUSE I AM IN LOVE WITH MSI RIGHT NOW. OTHER After purchasing the GPU I would recommend purchasing the MSI Accessory Graphics Card Bolster. To be honest, all GPU slants, or sags. This can be fixed with a holder, or a bracket, but hey couple dollars more and you get an official bracket made especially from a company that manufactures your GPU, so they know what they are dealing with. Also, I am still mad at myself for not finding out or looking into MSI graphics card before doing the whole “purchase” for my first PC because I did not get an MSI Mother board, instead I chose a different brand, and this is the worst part of my purchase. If I had a second life, or extra cash in my bank, I would definitely purchase an MSI board to go along with my beast. It would be beauty and the beast all in a case. I am writing this review to enter into the MSI Reward Program ... show more

  • The GTX 1080 that will stay cool and powerful for years to come
MSI with their Gaming series has always occupied a great space of getting the GPU you want, at a price you can afford with proper cooling, serving as a nice middle ground between the highest-end offerings that come pre-mounted with water blocks, and the low-end, rear exhaust blower cards. Compared to other cards with the same GPU, this card is affordable and reliable enough for a decent overclock, while still staying cool enough to stay under my personal target of 60C. I upgraded to this card from the GTX 970 version, and let me say, this card is a MONSTER. From the hefty back plate, to the giant fans on the front, this card is going to take up a lot of space in your PC, especially if you have anything other than a Full ATX tower. All of that PCB isn't just for show, as this GPU can take any game you want, any at all, and run them perfectly at 1080p; right now, today, there will be no compromises when it comes to graphical settings. If there is an Ultra preset for the game, this card will hit that target and go beyond, even keeping a smooth 60 fps while super-sampling to a 2x resolution scale or better. With MSI's Gaming App or MSI Afterburner, you can control the clock speeds for both the VRAM and the GPU, and the fan speeds to find the ideal balance between graphical performance, noise, and temperature. Also, if you're the type that love the "gaming" red and black aesthetics, this card is pleasing to the eye, and even comes with customisable RGB lighting. All in all, if you're looking to buy a GTX 1080, you've got the money to spend, but this is the air-cooled card that's going to get you the best value for those dollars. ... show more

  • Absolutely amazing card!
Installed this in my computer about a week ago, and I have to say that I absolutely love it! Let me just say, this graphics card is an absolute beast! It absolutely ravages almost any game that I throw at it. When it comes to the pros of this card, the list could go on and on. Pros: - Great killer performance! Runs almost everything well above 60 fps. If you're looking for something that blows almost every game out of the water and is also a good future proof card, then this is your best bet. - The looks! The design and shape of this graphics card is absolutely jaw dropping and never ceases to amaze me. Along with the sharpness of the card is the beautiful LEDs that MSI has blessed this card with! The red LEDs at the end of the card really compliment the red theme. - The temperature control. Of course, we can't forget the brilliantly implemented Twin Frozr cooling system. Even under extreme load, this card stays moderately cool for the best gaming experience. - The ports. There are many ports on the back of this card, giving you room for expansion and offering a good variety. Cons: - The only problem I have with this card is that, at times, I minor noticeable noise comes out of the card at first under load. However, this sound is not annoying at all and it hasn't interfered with my card or gaming experience in any way. In short, if you're looking for a card that has a killer performance, a great design, a brilliant cooling system, a great assortment of ports, and much more, I would highly recommend adding this card to your rig. Trust me, you won't regret it. ... show more

  • 1440p to 4k powerhouse
So, first of all, I know it’s really late for a review, specting to 2000 series from nvidia launch this year, but, to anyone thinking on buying this card for gaming (I really don’t know how well it performs when you’re mining, so I’m gonna let that part aside) its a solid hardware to game in ultra, +60 fps in 1440p, I’ve tried BF1, Far Cry 5, GTA V, BF 4, Pubg (this game specially is a headache, while having al the settings in ultra, it would dip to the low 40’s sometimes in random moments of the match, and then come up to the 100 fps, so I decided to leave it in High settings), Fortnite, with everything in epic, a solid 120 fps. In 4k, it shows where the card lacks in horsepower to push everything stable, and in high settings, to +60 fps, but anyway, temperatures are really good, just a couple of times (And I’ve bought this card on August 2016) going over the 80 C and fan noise is moderate to low, overall, a really good card for 1440p gaming, I’m very happy with my product and my purchase, 9/10 would buy again (9 just because the software for controlling the LED’s on the card is BS, but with that aside, is a solid card) ... show more

  • if you're tired of waiting for the Gaming Z
The price has dropped over the past couple of months. You can change the colors on the GPU, but again this isn't the Gaming Z which hasn't been released yet. I currently run mine in gaming mode, although you can set it to overclock mode or a more economical mode which they call the silent mode. I'm running it on a BenQ Gsynch 1080p monitor, but if you're using a 4K monitor, you may want to use the overclocking mode. I see improvement over the 980 in smoothness, although most people says it doesn't matter going from 980 to 1080 in 1080p. I disagree. I see a lot of improvement with Titanfall 2, some improvement on BF1, but no difference with Overwatch. I've always averaged over 90FPS with Overwatch with the GTX 980. I guess it depends on the game, and how demanding the game is. I've owned every generation of MSI xx80 GPU's over the years, and they have always been reliable. I really wanted all the bells and whistles, but was tired of waiting for the Gaming Z. Yes, I wanted the illuminated backplate which some may say is just ridiculous, but it means a lot to me. With the Gaming X the LED's can be turned on with music to flash with the beat if you'd like or a breathing mode, with multiple color options, but none really stuck out as eye popping. Everything runs smooth as usual. IMO, MSI Dragon has the best logo, and the lit up dragon on the backplate must look phenomenal. Still wanted the illuminated backplate. Great card overall. ... show more

  • It's great looking, with a backplate
Edit 10/24/23- This card is still going strong. I have it placed within an HTPC case from Silverstone on the main TV mostly just pulling movie duty at this point. Still games acceptably with most titles. I have found that its strong suit really is high quality settings 1080/60. Just rock solid like that and temps stay in line. It is capable of ~75-80 FPS in many titles at 1440 and works well in a case with good ventilation for said. In the spot/case it is currently in I have to limit frames or set a small fan in front of the entertainment center for it not to throttle. Admittedly, I have never purchased a graphics card that overall turned out to be as good as this one is for quality and longevity. It is a shame that most of these on the used market have such a high chance of having been mined with. With the current pricing on video cards more than out of hand, I decided the 1060 I wanted was too closely priced to the 1080 I completely didn't need. I picked this up for MSRP on reference. It's great looking, with a backplate, and matched the theme I wanted for my LED lighting/AMD build. The build quality and robust feel of this card is worlds apart from even other MSI offerings at "lower" tiers. I have an MSI 960 that feels like a bit of sandwich baggie compared to the stiff and solid feel of this card. It is a bit heavy, but didn't have any issues with that (as of yet) in relation to how it sets and feels in my case. The LED lighting is a great touch and backplate is really attractive. As far as finishing out the look for my open case, I will be looking into some manner of riser power connector. The 2x PCI cable looks like hell connecting there. Would think this could have been tucked back along the mobo side of the card somewhere...anyway... As far as performance, it's a 1080....and even though I am (currently) running it at 1080, it looks amazing as you would expect. I have seen a few small glitches and FPS drops, but figure it's a matter of burn in and possibly some settings adjustment. My current monitor will only do 60 frames, so I am way on overkill. Every game I have on Ultra settings and it's looking great with a nice surprise of having lower temps than the 960 I replaced. Obviously I will be putting this card more to use upon upgrading to a 4k monitor. In relation to those temps, I did install Afterburner and change to the "default" user auto fan setting, which actually turns them on around 40C instead of letting the card get up to 60C first. Even with my larger case build, I cannot see where the relatively quiet operation of these fans is more desirable than a hot case. Four stars if only because of FPS drops, poor stock fan curve, and price in reference to ALL cards. ... show more

  • Beast of a card, high quality, excellent stock cooling.
I've bought many video cards over the past two decades of gaming, and my last three cards have been MSI. MSI video cards, and even with the abuse I've put them through with overclocking they hold up well. Two generations ago I was forced to RMA a GTX770 at the end of it's life cycle, I had the card very much overclocked, and MSI customer service rewarded me for my trouble by sending a GTX 780 to me instead of a GTX 770. Since then I've bought two more MSI cards, and this GTX 1080 Gaming X is a winner with stock cooling I have the core up to 2100mhz and the ram up to 10800mhz and the card's temperatures have stayed great with the stock cooling fan. I game almost exclusively in VR these days and it is much more demanding than 4K gaming, and this card is pumping out great frame rates in anything I throw at it, even with max settings and supersampling pumped up. In the end, most important to me is the 3-year warranty, and MSI's excellent customer service. Trust me, you want to have that reassurance that your highest priced gaming investment isn't going to end up being a paper weight. ... show more

  • Another great product MSI! Another great product MSI!
Upgraded from another MSI product, keeping it's nice and fierce looking design. Easily clocked to 2100MHz to core and 11000MHz to memory. Went from the R9 390X Gaming X to the GTX 1080 Gaming X, a huge improvement indeed! A FurMark score of 4200 to 7200, and even topped a ASUS ROG Strix by 25pts at a lower boost clock speed, by atleast 200MHz. The RGB function of the LED does let me customize the lighting just a bit further, as my 390X only allowed a white LED. The Card runs extremely cool at 40c up to 70c under load with ambient temperature already being on the warm side. Can't wait to put a water block on this!, which sadly means I may be loosing the front and back plates. A SeaHawk X EK version would make a fine pick for Custom Loop enthusiasts, but this card is mighty fine alone being cooled by the Twin Frozr VI backed by it's TORX 2.0 fans and massive heatpipes the disperse heat quick! Can't wait to pair it up with a second Gaming X and a Z170 Gaming 7 motherboard. ... show more
