VERY EASY SET UP!! so let me start off by saying that I am a Nintendo person I have the switch 2 so you can understand that this was my first time getting a PC. There were no glitches at all considering this is a PC it has to do a ton of updates and restart itself a ton of times I would say it took about 45 minutes or so to finish the process, but you literally just followed the steps and press the buttons that it told you to. You will need a Microsoft/Windows account to sign into. As soon as the updates are done, you will see what looks like a desktop of a computer. Then I immediately clicked on the Internet, went to Steam and then clicked at the top right hand corner of the Steam website to download again very easy and it went right to the desktop. I did not have to direct it. I was immediately able to play games right away THE ONLY WEIRD THING I RAN INTO WAS: When you play PC games, these games are made for a desktop computer so when you go to play one of these games on a handheld, you will have to tell the handheld that you are a handheld so that you can use your joystick. Otherwise your characters will not move. But that is not a glitch in the system. That is just how it works. But once you realize that and set that up your system will remember that set up going forward. To do this I literally clicked on one of the buttons on the side of the screen and followed the directions to find “gamepad.” This notified my device that I was in fact, playing this game on a game pad versus a desktop computer but again this was something that I was not used to coming from Nintendo. The graphics are so good. I would say this is definitely a top-tier system and I can understand the cost. I 100% recommend this to anyone I am a female in her 40’s so if I can do it, you can do this too! It is very easy to follow. I know that there are some people that have left reviews on here saying that it was a difficult set up. It was definitely not difficult. I am an iPhone user so I am used to simplicity, and this was very simple.

After spending time with the MSI Claw A8 PC Gaming Handheld, I can confidently say this is one of the most refined Windows-based handheld gaming devices currently available for users who want both portability and true PC-level flexibility. The first thing that stands out is the overall hardware balance. The AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor paired with 24GB LPDDR5x memory delivers excellent responsiveness not only in gaming, but also in multitasking, media consumption, and light productivity workloads. System navigation feels smooth and immediate, and demanding titles maintain stable performance with surprisingly efficient thermal management for a handheld form factor. The 8-inch FHD 120Hz display is another major highlight. Motion clarity is excellent, especially in fast-paced games, and the higher refresh rate creates a noticeably smoother experience compared to traditional 60Hz handhelds. Color reproduction and brightness are well-balanced, making both gaming and streaming visually immersive without appearing overly saturated. Storage performance from the 1TB NVMe SSD is fast and reliable. Game loading times are minimal, and the additional microSD card support is especially convenient for expanding a growing game library without sacrificing portability. One of the strongest advantages of the MSI Claw A8 is its versatility as a true Windows 11 gaming platform. Unlike more restricted ecosystems, users have full access to platforms such as Steam, Xbox Game Pass, Battle.net, Epic Games Launcher, and other PC applications. The inclusion of Thunderbolt 4 further enhances expandability, allowing seamless connection to docks, external GPUs, high-speed storage, and multi-monitor setups. Ergonomically, the device feels thoughtfully designed. Weight distribution is comfortable during longer gaming sessions, and the grip design reduces fatigue better than many competing handhelds. The controls feel responsive and premium, with analog sticks and triggers offering good precision across both competitive and casual titles. Battery life naturally varies depending on performance settings and game intensity, but overall power optimization appears improved compared to earlier-generation Windows handhelds. With proper tuning, the system can achieve a practical balance between performance and portability. Overall, the MSI Claw A8 PC Gaming Handheld successfully bridges the gap between portable console gaming and full PC functionality. It is particularly well-suited for gamers who want high refresh rate gameplay, strong multitasking capability, and the freedom of the Windows ecosystem in a compact premium handheld device. For users seeking a high-end handheld gaming PC that combines performance, display quality, expandability, and everyday usability, this is a very compelling option.

I've been testing this device for a couple of days, so consider this an early impression rather than a full review. Price: At over $1,000, I believe this device is overpriced for what it offers. It shouldn't cost this much. Packaging: This is genuinely one of the worst unboxing experiences I've seen. The device ships in a plain plastic bag with just a charger and a manual, nothing else. No padding to prevent shaking during shipping, no protective case, nothing. For a device at this price point, this feels completely unacceptable. If you don't believe me, check the unboxing videos yourself. Come on MSI, this is a premium-priced device packaged like an entry-level one. Performance: I tested several games, including Stray, Gotham Knights, and Hi-Fi Rush, and everything ran smoothly with no noticeable frame drops. I've also been using the AI optimization features, which work well. Overall, performance is a genuine strength. Display: The screen is average at best, not top-tier. I'd say the Legion Go OG actually has better color accuracy. I've never been a fan of MSI's screens; they've always felt lackluster to me. Battery & Cooling: Battery life is decent, and the cooling system performs well, no major complaints there. Build Quality: The plastic and overall materials feel cheap for a $1,300 device. That's a hard pill to swallow at this price point. Charging: One concern, the charger gets noticeably warm while connected. I'm not sure if this is normal, but it's more heat than I'd expect. I'll assume it's temporary for now, but wanted to flag it. Bottom Line: The core performance is solid, but MSI could have done much better with the packaging, presentation, and build materials especially at this price. There's real potential here, but it falls short of what you'd expect from a device in this category.

During setup of windows the scaling of the entry field was scaled up about 5000%. Magnifier was off, resolution was native, and scale was fine. I had to plug in a keyboard and go into audit mode which hung so I had to reboot it and then it went into audit. In there all settings were still fine so I set it to portrait mode and then went back into the onboarding. It was fine then. Finally got into the actual system and at this point I'm also irritated with it physically. I can see the internals through a hole under the control stick. On a $1,400 product. And everything was this hollow plastic. And the fans were going berserk the entire time (I never even ran a game) and rightfully so because the thing was hot. Just running the operating system. The entire experience was so bad I decided to return it on the same day I got it. I wouldn't recommend this unless it was $300.
