  • Cools and heats my house
I installed this myself. Before having this I was using window a/c units and it would not keep my house cooled. Once I put this MRCOOL 36,000 BTU Ductless Mini Split in it made a huge difference. I mounted the outdoor unit on the side of my home and while it does make some noise, overall it is pretty quiet! It was the perfect size for my house. The performance is exactly what I expected. I have noticed my energy bill is cheaper running this than the window units making it a great value for the price. ... show more

  • Easiest of all the DIY units
Style: 18K Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1)
I did extensive research on the do-it-yourself style mini splits for my 20x40 shop and decided on this one for various reasons. First, I got quotes from local HVAC companies and the range for my shop was between $3000-$4000. For that price, I could buy 2 Mr Cool units. The reason I got the quotes was because most of the brand name, high rated companies like LG and Mitsubishi come with long warranties - like 10-15 yrs. The do it yourself brands are much less - less than 5 years. But, again, after I got the quotes, it was a no brainer. I recommend going to their website, reading the installation instructions, watching the videos, and having someone help since the outside and inside units are heavy and bulky to try to do alone. I followed the instructions and it was very easy to install. I did my electrical work one afternoon and installed the entire system the next day. The system is a “smart” unit which basically means it is Wi-Fi capable, has an app, can adjust the temps in “Eco” mode, and is very easy to use. I live in east Texas so the highs stay around 95-100 with a heat index around 110 for 4-6 weeks every August. I programmed the system to stay at 82 (which is probably an actual temp around 78) so I essentially have a climate controlled storage area/shop. If I’m going to be in the shop when I’m getting off work, I go on the app and set the temp to 74 so it’s cooling when I get home. It does not seem to struggle to keep at 82 and can cool down the space in less than an hour. Be aware that, apparently, all of the mini splits’ indoor fans run continuously. At least that’s been my experience after asking multiple people. However, the noise on both the fan inside and the outdoor unit are extremely quiet and I haven’t seen a major increase in my electric bill. I have turned it off for time to time but not in August in Texas! I’m cautiously optimistic about the longevity and durability of this unit so this review is subject to change which I will do if necessary. For now, I would highly recommend this system. ... show more

  • SUMMER TEMPS OVER 105°f? This is your unit. SUMMER TEMPS OVER 105°f? This is your unit.
Style: 18K Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1)
It has been in service since I installed it almost 18 months ago. No issues whatsoever with the unit that is the18k model installed in a 24ft wide x 24ft long x 8ft tall (ceiling) garage in Glendale Arizona. I can confirm with this square footage having partially insulated walls and mostly insulated single garage door with a 2nd story above, the 18k unit is sized effectively. If you live in a lower temp environment you could get away with 12k but a hot vehicle pulled in to the garage. Will make the unit work for a few hours. In that scenario, this should be the proper size for most two car garages, regardless of the climate. Do your own research, of course. However, I did a great deal of research on mini split units all the way from Mitsubishi down to knock-off Chinese units. regardless of the manufacturer, most units are not rated for outside temperatures above 108°F, MrCool DIY’s are and they provide proof and testing on their site. So if you live in warmer climate, knock off Chinese units are not designed for high outside temperatures, and a majority of them will disable themselves when temperatures go above 105°f as they have an ambient temperature sensor on the outside unit that keeps them from overheating. I can confirm that this unit works effectively at Arizona desert temperatures over 120°f. Of course there is a large efficiency lost at that temperature but the ratings provided by the company prove this unit is more efficient than brands three times the cost. In fact, I can’t find a mini split unit on the market regardless of cost that has the same efficiency at temperatures over 115.°f. Yes, someone that is a home DIYer can install this unit themselves. However, I highly recommend you hire an electrician to run your disconnect.. everything else most DIYers should and can do. I know (and can look up) NEC and local codes. But if you cause an electrical fire by a faulty install, good luck getting a payout from your homeowners insurance. Same story if you sell your home with the unit attached and it wasn’t installed to code. And yes, running your disconnect could cost anywhere from $300-1200, but that’s life. Some have stated these units leak. My unit has not lost efficiency and I’ve monitored monthly kilowatt draw since last year and it’s pretty consistent. I did hook up a manifold gauge, and the pressure is low based manufacturer spec for target super heat. However, I assume that it was a loss in the hose or possibly initial seepage on the quick connect (I didn’t leak check after install). I read low pressure/charge as a common theme with these quick connects. I have been told the line set is charged with R410a and so is the unit. However, if this is incorrect or there was a slight seepage while in the box or during initial connect, that would explain the current levels. It’s fractionally low and probably losing 15% efficiency. You can buy small one time bottles on the Internet to charge mini splits that come with a gauge, you can pick one of these up and I recommend you do, no HVACR-EPA license needed. I haven’t charged mine since I need to move my main house split unit and I’ll wait till I buy a full R 410a tank. When the temp is below 90° outside, keeping my garage at 78°, I barely see much change in my kilowatt usage total for my home. Results may vary.. However this unit is hugely efficient I also feel keeping the garage below 100° keeps heat ingress out of my house, thereby raising the efficiency of my main unit. @@NOTE: I am also using MRCOOL’s wall mount for the unit. The unit will produce a low frequency vibration, though it comes with rubber feet, which help with mid frequency, if you will attach this to your house, you will hear the unit running when the home is quiet. For me it’s only noticeable when it’s dead quiet in the house and I’m on that side. My guess have never been able to hear it. So I’m probably neurotic. lol ... show more

  • I install it without any help, but a second set of hands wouldn't hurt.
If you have a hole saw and a crescent wrench. You can install this unit. Quiet and efficient. everything worked as advertised.

  • Mr. Cool NOT!!!!!
I purchased this unit which is 36,000BTUs rated for 1500 sq ft for my 1200 sq ft shop. It was pretty easy to install though NOBODY would use a 1/2" conduit connection from the power supply to the condenser, so it should be a 3/4" connection. Other than the crap instructions and pictures, took about 2 days or 10 hours. I am VERY capable of doing this work and will say my 1st attempt at an AC unit of any kind. Bottom line it turned right on, blows cold air despite the poor fan speed and simply is incapable of keeping my shop below 87 degrees, even on some days when it is just above 80 degrees. I did 4 tests all starting around 97, 92, 87, 95 inside and 101, 96, 94, and 83 inside. I NEVER got a reading below 87 degrees in my shop even after running for over 24 hours straight through the night when the temperature outside fell into the low 70s each night. I think I would need 4 of these units to get the workable comfort level that I was expecting. It is too bad, I cannot return it a so I am out 2 days work and $3000. Don't make the same mistake!!!! ... show more

  • Upgraded from 2 ton to 3 ton
Shipping was fast (3 days). Installed it myself with no help in 5 hours. Used the entire 25’ line set as the condenser was set on concrete blocks and the blower was placed up high on the 2nd floor. 3 ton unit is whisper quite on low speed but a little noisy on turbo. It took just 30 Minutes on turbo to cool 1800 square feet from 80 to 72. Placed it on whisper low and it maintained 72 all day when outside temps hit 86. This was an upgrade from a 2 ton unit that I had for 7 years. ... show more

  • Not happy
Style: 18K Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1)
Not real happy with it. I only have 400 sq ft. Had to size up. For heat you need to set it to 74 to be at 70. Air runs non stop at times even though it is 5 degrees cooler than I have it set at. Other times it is warmer and not running. I called a few times. They just make excuses.

  • 3 weeks and stopped working.
Style: 18K Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1)
It's thrown a p4 code after running great for 3 weeks. Took four days to hear back from Mr. Cool. They gave me a list to try and I will try them and see if it works. I think they thought it's never run at all because the list mainly consist of checking the fittings and releasing the freon. I'm not hopeful. I'll keep updating the progress. 8/4/23 Mr cool tech called on a Saturday, which was perfect for me. We opened the Condensor box, checked a few electrical lines, looked at the big white sticker on the actual condenser to see if it changed colors, by over heating, it did not. He concluded there is an internal issue that can't be fixed. They are sending me a new outside condenser to replace the broken one, which UPS tried to deliver yesterday to a different house in a different town. Still had not arrived. 8/5/23 UPS did it... they actually delivered the warranty unit to a different address in a different town. Now it's lost they say...it's not lost, they delivered it to a different house and the person signed for it. Why don't they just go back and get it, they have the address because they told me it. Now who knows how long this mess will take. It's only 105 here in Texas. It's been a year and the 2nd unit is running great. Does exactly what it says it does. If it wasn't for the hassle above...I would give this a 5 star. ... show more
