I ordered this item to replace a window mount AC unit in a studio apartment we had. The item arrived in new condition. The instructions were complete and detailed. The installation was a bit challenging but only from the standpoint that access to our roof attic was tough. It took me about 6 hours to get everything mounted and it started cooling as soon as I turned on the power. We will buy more of these to install AC in the rest of our home. ... show more

Installation really was easy, took just a few hours, although I spread them out over a couple of days. I was ready to buy a cheaper unit and have my HVAC guy help install it, but scored the Mr. Cool at a great discount which made it a no brainer! The included instructions are not that great, but there are lots of videos online on installing Mr. Cool mini splits. I'd recommend watching assorted ones before you begin. Followed the installation per the videos, had no leaks, and the unit worked perfectly the first time i started it up. ... show more

Do not buy from MrCool. First off, calling this a DYI is false advertisement, it does require an electrician if you do not have an available 20amp to HARD WIRE it into. The unit we received via Amazon does not work. We contacted MrCool directly to get a replacement. That’s where this turned into 50 questions and pictures. They asked that we disassemble the outdoor unit and take off all panels. After days of answering questions and going back and forth with MrCool they snail mailed a new circuit board. We had to install the new circuit board ourselves, we are not electricians so again how is this a DYI unit. With the new circuit board installed the unit still does not cool and the unit is showing more error codes. We again contacted MrCool and now they want to mail us a new condenser. It has been exactly 30 days since I purchased this unit which is still unusable. The option to return this unit is no longer visible in Amazon. This has been a frustrating experience. If you’re interested in getting a crash course on how to become an HVAC expert this is the unit for you. This is an expensive unit, that does not work and MrCool support is only willing to snail mail us 1 part at a time. The MrCool customer support technicians are not even empowered to offer parts unless they get approved by the higher ups. This causes more delays. I cannot recommend this unit. I also want to mention the directions that you receive with the 12k unit cover all the Models, so many of the directions are inaccurate for the 12k unit. ... show more

This unit is replacing an older unit. Both the 12k MrCool DIY. The older design was better with the line set connected to the evaporator. This unit came with a separate line set. Also, the new unit only allows for the line set to pass through one side on the wall. The old unit would pass through either side. This means I have to drill a new 3" hole in the wall and replace siding and patch sheet rock. My old line set covers are not long enough to go to the new hole. This means buying a new set of covers. The feet for the condenser are spaced different from the old unit. This means removing the old concrete anchors and drilling new ones. I'm all for making a product better but changing everything so you cannot swap a replacement unit in is not a good idea. Just to note, the old unit was installed in June of 2018 - I got 8 years out of it. If this unit fails that quickly, I'm going to pay a contractor to put a Mitsubishi in. ... show more
