This TV mount is a nice, sturdy unit that is easy to install. It functions as advertised, except the vertical adjustment range isn’t 13.5 inches. It’s just under 12 inches. Not a big issue. It works very well with the shiplap “fireplace” I just built in my bedroom. There are a few things to note: You have to choose how you want your TV to tilt when it is parked. Mine is plumb throughout the vertical range, but it tilts slightly forward in its highest position and pushed back (parked) in the fireplace (see pics). The pivots points were initially very stiff laterally. I sprayed teflon grease in them, and that made them way better. The instructions also advise that the vertical pivot makes a popping sound if the set screw needs to tightened. That is true. You’ll need a wide, flat head screw driver to tighten it. The set screw basically functions as a sleeve for the hex bolt that adjusts the shock. It will make sense when you see it. My 50 inch TV weighs about 20 pounds, with 200mm by 200mm VESA. This mount easily supports it. I noticed pivot point closest to the base was loose after I moved the arm up and down many, many times while I was building everything. I think it was slightly loose when it arrived, and I didn’t notice when I installed it. Then the repeated movement made it worse. Since I tightened the bolt, though, there haven’t been any issues. I recommend this mount and I may get more for other TVs. The aforementioned minor issues aren’t cause for concern for me. It works well, it looks modern, and the mechanisms are nicely hidden under a grey plastic body. So far, so good.

I moved to a sit/stand set-up, and thus needed to update my monitor arms to wall mount. I have been using desk-mount Ergotron products for around 5 years (I have the LX, MX, and Neo-Flex). They are of superior build/aesthetic quality, but they are more expensive (I think their price is the "sweet spot" for quality and affordability if you can afford a little more than the product offered here). Since I needed to purchase *three* new arms, I started looking at the more "budget" options, and found this arm. I also need an arm that will support a 30 pound monitor (I am using Dell 3008 WFPt monitors... they are crazy heavy). If you can afford an extra fifty bucks, I would definitely recommend purchasing the http://amazon.com/MX-Wall-Mount-LCD-Arm instead. I decided I would go ahead and save the hundred and fifty bucks (since I'm buying three). I ordered a single unit to check them out, and after a week of use, I went ahead and ordered two more. The other two arrived today, and I am mounting them as I type this. The support arm that moves up and down contains a hydraulic support similar to what would hold a car trunk/hood open (see photo). You can adjust the tension for your particular monitor's weight. The positioning is pretty spot on (it stays where you put it) without being so rigid that it's difficult to move. I move my monitors several times a day, and so far so good. Hopefully the hydrolic arm holds up. My Ergotron is still super-strong after five years. I'm hoping these do as well. The Ergotrons have a spring loaded monitor mount plate that is really nice for *tilting* the monitor up and down. This unit has a more simple mechanism that allows the monitor to tilt, but it just has knobs on the sides of the mounting bracket to tighten the tilt "tension" (it's really just friction --see photo). You can set them at a point so the monitor will tilt as you wish and then stay put, but I'm sure I will need to keep tightening the knobs over time. I am around 5'10", so for me, mounting the top of the wall mounting plate at 54" is the right height for a sit/stand situation. Three screws secure the arm to a stud. I was a little worried at first that the wall mount part might be too narrow (and mar the wall by denting it), but it seems to be pretty solid. I should note that my mounting situation is two sheets of sonic-glued fire rated drywall and a sheet of quarter inch ply over the studs, so my wall is probably a little more dense/thick than the average install. The mount will not allow your monitor to rotate from portrait to landscape, so if that's something you do often (like, if you're in layout/design), this probably isn't the monitor for you. You can change the orientation, but it requires remounting the plate on the back of the monitor. There *is* a +/- 3 degree rotation, so you can "fine tune" the horizontal orientation of the monitor. As mentioned, there is plenty of vertical play for a sit-stand situation. At it's highest point, the bottom edge of my 30" monitor is 49 1/2" from the floor. This puts the center of the monitor a *little below* the center of my eye line, but I think it's probably good enough. At the lowest point, the bottom edge of the monitor is 36 1/4" from the floor. For those who have difficulty with math, that's a little over 13" of vertical play. Saying the arm retracts to *less* than 3" is a bit of a stretch. The arm retracts to 3" and then there is the depth of your monitor/television. The arm will extend your monitor to around 23" plus the depth of your monitor/tv from the wall (and seems pretty solid while fully extended). I knocked off a star because the unit does not come with any screws that are VESA appropriate. Every screw included is too thick to screw into the back of ANY of my monitors; perhaps they would work with tv's, but they DEFINITELY did not work with any of my monitors. This is not a problem isolated to one shipment, as all three units had this problem. So I had to go out and purchase longer screws (twice). The mounting plate is pretty large (9"x9" with optional extensions for large tv's). It is nice that it is designed to attach to your monitor/tv and *then* "set in" the arm already attached to the wall. Getting the screws wasn't a huge deal, but seems like something a lot of people might run into if they are mounting monitors. All in all, this seems like a decent option compared to the Ergotron for people looking to save a couple bucks (though I still recommend the Ergotrons if you've got the cash).

I needed a mount which allows for vertical movement and this works great. To make the mounting easier, I suggest that you buy other screws with a hex top with the specs set out in another review, drill the holes, then use the hex top screws to create a good fit, then take them out and use the screws provided which have a Phillips head. If you just use the Phillips head screws provided initially, you may strip them during the install and you not be able to get them all the way in (or out if that ever becomes necessary). However, you need to use the Phillips head for the final install to be able to cover them with the nice covers provided which give a polished look.

Terrible product. Gas arm too weak to hold 50 inch TV well under weight limit. Very sorry I wasted money on it.

I’m using this on a Covered Patio to make the tv easy to “pull and push up and down” to make it easier to put the tv cover on and off. Works well! Installed one before on stucco/brick with no issues and on this home it’s wood/vinyl siding with no issues

This is a great value compared to other adjustable arms, which generally cost about twice as much. It comes almost fully assembled, and the fins on the VESA plate only attach if you need to use them for a larger VESA pattern. It's mostly metal construction, except the plastic shell that covers the arm. It is a little hard to adjust if you're trying to move the arm before you mount it, so if it doesn't budge, it's normal. Once it's mounted it should move more easily with the weight of the display attached. Adjustment of the tension is simple with the included hex key. When the tension is correct, adjustments are easy, and it has a great vertical range. Mounting to the wall is also simple enough. One item that I don't see mentioned in the specs is the min/max weight, which is 5.5 to 44lbs. It should also be listed for displays from 26" to 47", as shown on the box and in the manual.
