  • Fully Lego compatible
Just finished this build today. I made e modifications that I think turn this into an excellent RC excavator. First I swapped out the dual battery boxes for a single 6 channel battery and remote with proportional controls. Mould King sells it for $40 her on Amazon. It's a tight fit. But will fit into the rear battery box spot unmodified. Just adjust the position of the technic beam on top of the xl motor forward one stud. 2. The mounting brack that attached the rear of the lift cylinder that controls the sticks in and out movement. ( Located on top of the boom) Needed to be raised up by one stud, ( or hole) to make the mechanisn work smoothly and not bond up. 3. The bucket it comes with is way too wide for a real excavator. So I 3d printed my own bucket that looks much more realistic. Basically the same exact shap but half the width. Every piece was there and it's a fun build. Definitely challenging. Pay close attention to details and go slow. Keep an eye on some pieces that look almost identical to each other but have slots in them to mate up to other parts. If you use the wrong ones, you'll regret it later, and be tearing pieces apart to swap them. Trust me! All in all great build. Just needed a few tweaks to make it perfect. Fully 100% compatible with Lego and Lego technic. Even the motors are Lego power functions basically. ... show more

  • Totally worth it if you dont need Lego-level quality
If you just want to build a unique and well engineered mechanical model for the joy of doing it, then this is GREAT value. If all of your problems are first-world, you have $500 to burn, AND you demand the absolute finest quality control in every respect, then buy yourself some lego and what are you doing even looking at this? Anyway, I was consistently impressed with the fit, design, and features throughout. The instructions are FINE. There was no point where the quality of instructions was nearly as low as the price. I expected absolute trash based on the price! But this set was clearly produced with much more care than chinas typical level of effort when producing knock-off type products. The parts fit together in a consistent and surprisingly precise way( not as good as lego but way better than COBI). They consistently exceeded my (minimal) expectations with sufficiently detailed instructions, and mechanisms which were engineered with a clear priority for high functionality and aesthetic over cheap simplicity. ... show more

  • Awesome! Mostly
This is a great build! Drives great, operates great! Only downsides: 1) you have to turn the remote off/on if you want to switch from driving to using the bucket. 2) the drive control is reversed on each side so to go forward one side is the top button the other is the bottom button. Tried to fix that but failed. 3) the bucket is WAY, WAY to big. You can't pick up anything because the weight is too much for the gears. I tried picking up a half bucket of dog food (it was there. Lol) and the gears just clicked or stopped all together. I have also never seen an excavator with a bucket that size (proportion wise) in my life. it looks like they used the bucket from a loader for this model because they didn't feel like making one specifically for the excavators. If they put the right size bucket with this it would be PERFECT. Maybe I'll make one out of ABS sheet for it. Lol ... show more

  • Excavator #13112 @ $130 = 4 Stars
Pros: Has all 6 functions of a real excavator (all independent of one another): left track (forward/reverse), right track (forward/reverse), swing (rotate left/right), boom (up/down), stick (in/out), and bucket (curl/uncurl). Can swing infinitely in either direction. Fun build with impressive mechanical drive designs. No pieces missing. Cons: The controller is awkward because 1) it lacks analog inputs / each command is either at 0 or 100% and 2) the controller needs to toggle between modes to select between track functions vs. digging functions; you can buy "Mould King M0019 6.0 Powered Module Kit" to separately upgrade to 4 analog + 2 digital functions (too big to be a perfect drop-in replacement). The boom/stick joint is not sturdy. Observations: This is an advanced build; interpretting the manual requires skill and possibly some judgement. Some parts fit tight and require strong adult hands. Both ends of the boom rams attach to rigid carbon fiber shafts. Boom rams can be manually adjusted to match in length. My tracks have remained on without issue (was careful to count track links; spare link was included in package). Front left cab pillar is made from rubber tube that needs to be cut to length. When a ram jams, remove both ends from excavator, manually turn gear to unjam ram, and reinstall. For the $130 price, I'd make this purchase again. ... show more

  • Wire management Wire management
This is a difficult, but excellent build. I did not have one piece missing. You must pay of attention to the directions, especially the connections that are highlighted in red. I did have to take apart a couple of components, a couple of times. And rebuild them. But that’s the fun of it. There are absolutely no directions on how to manage the wires that run the motors. So I used small tie wraps to keep them tight and placed them in strategic pots. It was fun doing it! I did put in some photos in review of the wire management. I already have another Mouldking on order. I am 63. ... show more

  • Cool end result, but hard to read the manual.
Really wanted a lego motorized excavator. Got this because why not? Its cheaper than Lego, they have customer service, and looks cool. I'm sold. The customer service is on the WeChat app; I'm not using WeChat. only found that out after opening the manual and see the WeChat app. Hope I don't need it and..... I need it. 1/3 way in the build at this point and got the tell tale sign of the great quality control of not Lego branded toys, not fully injection molded pieces. The pieces themselves feel very similar to Lego, but that doesn't matter if there's always a chance of this happening. Since I don't trusting an app owned by the CCP and I don't want to disassemble it to return it, I guess I have to wing it. Luckily i was able to move around others of the same piece around where it won't matter. This isn't even the end of my grievances. I used to build lots of Lego and including Technic style builds. Maybe this is because I'm too old to be playing with Lego, but the diagrams are not the easiest to read. Feels like I'm playing spot the difference when a step tells you to put a bunch of pieces where you can't see them and its a small diagram. I need to take out a magnifying glass because I strained my eyes looking so closely at the manual. It's just how packed some steps in the instruction manual can be. It felt like a chore building this. This isn't even complaining about needing 2 remotes, buying the 6 channel remote, or dealing with turning on and off one or the other battery box to fully control the excavator. I was about to pony up for the 6 channel remote. I don't care at this point, I held off building it multiple time, and even though I'm almost done, I'm still not finishing it. It's too late for me to return it, I regret not returning it when i got the not fully injection molded piece. That piece was the sign to give up all along. I bought this in November 2024 and still haven't finished it. I'm traumatized from how hard it is to look at the manual. 2 stars only because if you can deal with something I can't tolerate, then that makes this not that bad. Won't be buying another Mould King product again. Update: Its 2026 and I still haven't finsihed it yet. Collecting dust, I tried to go back and it's just like I remember, too hard to read diagrams. ... show more

  • Beware of Damages
The overall product is great. It works fantastic and is fun to play with. The issue was with the scoop. The box arrived with one corner severely damaged. As a result the two plastic tabs that are for mounting the scoop were fairly damaged and bent to the side. Be careful not to snap them off when building/trying to repair them. ... show more
