Equipped with the same ESS Sabre32 Ultra DAC Technology found in audio interfaces costing thousands, the M2 from Motu delivers an astonishing 120 dB Dynamic Range on its main outputs. ESS converters also drive the headphone output, which rivals dedicated headphone amplifiers costing hundreds. Ultra- clean preamp circuits produce a measured -129 dBu EIN on the mic inputs. Capture and monitor your audio with pristine clarity. The M2 provides best-in- class speed for monitoring live inputs (mic, guitar or keyboard) through your computer, thanks to MOTU's expertly engineered USB drivers, which deliver class-leading, ultra-low 2.5 ms Round Trip Latency (at 96 kHz with a 32 sample buffer). When recording and mixing, nothing is more critical than achieving optimum levels. The M2 is the only audio interface in its class with a full color LCD featuring clear, detailed level meters for all inputs and outputs. It comes with an extra XLR-XLR cable. • MOTU, a good product
I will address other complaints. If you have a hum noise, it's you PC or tablet's power supply, I figured that out by changing power supply, This unit isn't intended to power passive speakers, hello! Internet browser issues are caused by your PC's settings ie 44k and 48k. I have found keeping you PC in 48k works best. Yes you may have some issues with Lynicks (spell) drivers, this unit works best PC and mac. I also would suggest a high quality usb-c cord there's a difference. Pops and crackles are due to you setting a low sample rate and you computer not having enough power to accommodate especially if you are throwing a lot at the unit and computer and you computer can't keep up, try 192 or higher sample rate you should be good. You must understand, this is also a $200 unit, and you ARE getting a product that WILL do the job, I've been using it live for triggering keyboard samples and I don't have any problems. I've made so very nice recording productions no problem also, but on that note, they will only turn out good if you know what your doing. Your DAW software also plays an important part of the process. I am not affiliated with MOTU, I've been a user of their products for over 20 years, they work as intended, and this model has the update DA converter, and updated driver. My mk3 ultra lite took a dump after many years of being on a abusive road. This was the perfect replacement for my needs, and I use it for recording as well. Hope all this helped. Some complaints on here were from a lack of knowledge of what and how this unit works. It's a great unit, especially at this price point. If you're buying this, then you probably don't have a 10's of thousands of dollars recording studio and you wouldn't be posting on here. Bottom line, great unit. ... show more

  • The only thing that checked all of the boxes
I am not using this product to record anything. I am using it purely for PC gaming/Music listening. This was the only thing I could find that met all my requirements, listed below: 1. Ability to drive 250ohm headphones 2. Has direct (latency free) mic monitoring (I like to be able to hear myself) 3. Makes me not sound like a robot I tried lots of "gaming dac/amps" before this. None of them could meet all of the requirements listed above. I looked into the Scarlet, but it couldn't drive my headphones. I looked into separate dacs and amps, but they didn't have a mic port, or didn't have monitoring, or didn't have latency-free monitoring. This thing works marvelously. I can hear all of my PC audio, communicate clearly with friends in discord, and hear myself at the same time. It's also nice to have my speakers plugged in as well, for when I don't want to use a headset. The reason I couldn't just the use the plugs on my PC was because they were picking up interference from my graphics card. This solves that issue. I am using this with DT990 Pro's and a modmic (to use a mod mic you will need an XLR adapter to step down the phantom power). But I like that I now have the ability to use a more fancy XLR mic if I ever want to. Also, you may want to use some EQ software to get the sound where you want it. But once you get everything where you like it, man it just works perfectly. Buy it! ... show more

  • Fantastic audio quality and clean preamp in this solid unit.
Fantastic audio quality and clean preamp. The best part of this solid little unit is the incredibly detailed VU meter. Setting levels has never been more accurate on such a portable interface. Plays nicely with my strip processor and very solid drivers mean I have yet to have any kind of software or hardware hiccup. I did notice the physical phantom power buttons on my right channel are flush instead of slightly raised but no noticable issues. It's got the fastest low-latency via USB I've heard. Loopback is a very cool bonus. ... show more

  • Very nice
I've been using this for a little over one week and it's a very nice piece of gear. My old Tascam interface was very unstable since new and after eight years fried itself. This MOTU replacement is easier to use and, so far, more dependable - the ASIO driver is more stable than Tascam's. I haven't used the free XLR-XLR cable that was included in the package, nor have I used any of the included audio software. I'm using Reaper. ... show more

  • Analog output too weak
Audio inputs work great. Left and right ones are different stereo channels. Meters are bright as are LEDs in the switches which run anytime moc is plugged in, so power switch is super to avoid unplugging when not in use. Headphone audio level is good but analog output to passive 8 ohm speakers is poor, must crank up big knob all the way to get sound that is just a bit too low level when bookshelf speakers are at a sides of monitor. I had wanted to use the Motu for all Mac sounds but it cannot easily be heard if other noise is present. Too bad because the M2 can mix USB sound from Mac with mic inputs but then can only reasonably go to headphones. ... show more

  • Works great, sounds great
I replaced a dead 5 yo Scarlett 4i4 with the Motu M2. Had everything I need. 2 line/mic ins, 2 balanced outs, MIDI in/out, individual switchable phantom power per input, 1/4 inch headphone. Sound quality is great, in and out.

  • Inferior product that lasted 18 months with very light use
I have had many MOTU audio interfaces over the years (828 and 828 mkII for example), and those each lasted almost 8 years before having any kinds of degrading issues. This M2 arrived brand new with an annoying noise problem, that was coming through the USB port. After much research, I had to buy a separate USB audio ground loop eliminator ($60) to alleviate this. After that, the M2 worked ok until 18 months later, now the phantom power buttons (48V) on both channels 1&2 will not engage. And pressing either of them restarts the unit entirely. This is now completely unusable with my condenser mics that require phantom power. Good thing I had an extra Komplete 6 from 10 years ago laying around... still works! As for MOTU, I don't see myself buying another product from this name ever again. ... show more
