  • Pay Off Your Mortgage Way Early And Do The Things You Currently Can't Afford To Do And Learn Ways To Get Yourself Out Of Debt
I found the book Mortgage Free: How to pay off your mortgage in under 10 years - without becoming a drug dealer by Heidi Farrelly while just browsing around books. The title caught my eye. Even though I have already paid off my mortgage I got to looking at it and decided it was more than just a way to pay off your mortgage. Heidi Farrelly gives you plenty of tips on how to cut costs, save money, have more to invest or do the things you want to do. I will probably end up with another mortgage in the near future as I am planning to relocate. This book will help tremendously. It is well written with plenty of humor. Even though the book is financial in nature, I found it enjoyable to read. I really liked the dictionary at the end. I can easily recommend this book to everyone. Despite the fact that the book was written from an Australian viewpoint, the tips, concepts and problems faced in buying a house and obtaining a mortgage are world-wide. I am glad I found this book. I need to get my finances in order and this book can guide me in that direction. Later, when I move and buy another house, this book will be invaluable in regards to this purchase. I will say, if you are a drug dealer I guess you really don't need this book. Everyone else should get it and read it now, then follow her advice on how to make your life better in so many ways. I will definitely use her tips and I will definitely NOT become a drug dealer. ... show more

  • Practical and Very Helpful
HEIDI Owning is a home is a great privilege, it's can also be a huge pain! Being saddled to something you are indebted to for 25 years or more is no fun. It's even less enjoyable when the author of this book says you'll be paying off almost $600k of interest alone on a $500k loan over 30 years! This is madness, and I'm glad Heidi gave me practical ways to avoid being enslaved for so long to my bank. Her idea of paying off your home loan in under 10 years and saving you $100,000's is very appealing! The great thing is, she also clearly shows you how to achieve this. By doing things like sensible budgeting, watching what/where you buy and being focused on your goal, you can achieve your goal of being mortgage free. The funny thing is, she shows you how redirecting a few bucks from say, buying your lunch can save you +$70k!!! When you take a look at many things you spend money on, you start to question just how important it really is, and what the true cost is over time. The thing I liked about this book is that the author doesn't have a bent on "selling" her way or the highway. She gives you many practical ways to pay off your mortgage by increasing your income and reducing your expenses regardless of your age and income level. I must admit some of her ideas are very creative and you can see she's put a lot of time into thinking about them. She even goes into dealing with real estate agents and buying a home. If you want to get a grip on nailing down your mortgage to under 10 years, then do your wallet and your life a favor and read this book. It's well worth it. ... show more

  • Recommended BEFORE you buy your first house
Mortgage Free - well who does not want that? There are a lot of solid tips and strategies in this book including ways to earn more income, save more and pay off the mortgage faster. And it was great to see that the author had demonstrated it was possible. I was particularly intrigued by the tip to make a payment on the mortgage every fortnight rather than month. I would have liked a bit more information or suggestions for when you already have a mortgage. That said, I would highly recommend this book for people who have not bought their first house yet. It is a quick, easy read, casual in tone but with some serious help to those who are serious about putting a dent into their mortgages faster. ... show more

  • A must-read for 20-30-40-somethings!
Whether or not you own a home or want to own a home (or even if you never want to own a home!), you will find that MORTGAGE FREE is an easy-to-read financial guide (with motivation) for people without an inexhaustible trust fund. If you need to work to support yourself, don't you want to make every one of your hard-earned dollars count? A few of the money-saving measures suggested in MORTGAGE FREE might be a bit extreme for most of us, but even those ideas will help you to think of alternatives that will work for you. When you see the clear and understandable graphs showing long-term financial benefits resulting from even a little frugality, you will surely begin to adopt many of these strategies in your daily life. It's not all work and no play in MORTGAGE FREE, although the author admits upfront that achieving ambitious financial goals will take hard work. The author encourages the enjoyment of life while still being smart about money, and she suggests alternatives to high-priced vacations/toys/habits. MORTGAGE FREE is conveniently arranged for reading and rereading. Its clearly defined chapters make it easy to skim for a first read and return for an in-depth study. Each section also has helpful summaries in bold print for note-taking and review. MORTGAGE FREE would be a great book to discuss in an investment club, in a marriage seminar, or just over a cup of coffee with a friend. WARNING: you may feel guilty reading MORTGAGE FREE while sipping a $7.00 latte at your favorite boite. ... show more
