Once installed it's up and running on the LMS High Torque mini mill and my initial reaction it is a great product. The actual operating instructions have apparently gotten better over the years because they are now pretty good. They do not however include mounting instructions or photos for mounting the display on this particular sellers site. I only mention this because it was not that obvious from the included hardware. I searched another supplier site on Amazon that had a photo of it mounted and then it became pretty simple. So, with only a couple of hours use I highly recommended it, especially for the price. There are a few comments that may save you some time, frustration and maybe money. 1) Inserting the connectors is very finicky. These are traditional D Subminatures with screw type strain relief. The screws can be hard to get started/engaged. They looked too long to me at first but they should thread all the way in once they are properly started. Try to force them and you may wind up damaging the threads. Try completely inserting the connector then wiggling them as you start to turn the screw on one side then the other. You may say "Duh" that's obvious, but it's a little tricky as these are pretty cheap connectors. Trust me I have designed various strain relief systems for these very type Mil spec. connectors in the past. 2) Regarding the Glass scales that are normally used with this display. There are many UTUBE videos on how to cut/shorten glass scales with pretty good success but require a lot of effort. So, why not order the correct ones from the start. Most if not all Amazon suppliers force you to order a package with a choice of scale lengths and offer a custom option for a extra price if you want a different length. I could not find a site that sold the scales separately. On EBAY there was a site that sold individual size scales and they had all the various sizes in stock. For my particular bench top mill the XYZ travel was 11.8,X 6,X 11.8. So I ordered (2) 300mm and (1) 150mm scales. Perfect, no cutting required. The actual required mounting space on your machine for the scales is about 5.4 inches longer than the actual scale reading capability so make certain you have that additional room on your particular machine or you will be forced to make special brackets. Actually, you will have to anyway because the included hardware rarely suits the application. Really? 9 ft. long cables on the scales. I'm certain there are applications for this long a cable but most will wind up trying to decide what to do with all that extra cable. As you can see in the photo one choice is to route them under the table and coil the extra length on a hook. So, using this vendors display price and the "custom/standard" scales purchased on EBAY there was no cutting of the scales and the total cost of the system came in about $40 cheaper than a standard kit using the $30 extra charge for custom length scales.     • Good DRO but you may have some Minor problems
Received the DRO with the X and Z axis not working. Tried to contact the seller but no luck. The problem was the connects in the DRO was completely popped out from the plastic housing. After re-inserting the contacts the DRO now is working properly. The DRO is well designed but the QA is not good. Nevertheless, I like it for its accuracy and low cost. ... show more

    • Does not have the EDM function
I bought this in December 2020. It is very inexpensive, but seems to be okay for what I want. What I really wanted was the Z axis shut off with the EDM function. The button is on the front panel but it doesn't do anything, and when you open it up, the control board only has the connections for the three scale inputs. This is many times less expensive that a box with the shut off, but the button should at least covered up and the EDM function removed from the description. liked this unit... inexpensive, yet solid. Would recommend. Lots of applications on my mill. Operator manual thorough and exhaustive... Linear encoder works well... need to be pretty creative to mount solidly and shield from swarf and crud...
