Bought to drill 2" holes in 1/2" plate steel. Motor had great torque and Mag seemed to bond well. after 4 holes the motor bound up and spun the base. We tried to reset it , but it wouldnt spin. gave to our shop guy who repairs all small hand tools and electric motors , he found the bearing cup cracked and broke internally. its now useless. It may work well for small holes , but for me it was a waste of $430.

This mag drill will get the DIY guy a quality cut on most mild steels and deliver a fast and accurate solution over a standard hand drill and hole saw. My experience: 1. The drill needs time to cool down between sets of holes. I usually drill 10 holes and let it set for twenty minutes cooling before I move to the next set. 2. Be carful of the rack and pinion as it has a tendency to allow for a little chatter when starting a new hole. 3. The lubricating system uses a non air tight system so evacuating all the fluid is a must for short and long term storage, even over night. Also the cup has two screws that strip out easily and will need to be remedied before use. 5. There is little or no customer support and you should understand the basic principles of a mag drill system to avoid safety concerns or catastrophic failures!!!

Drilled a couple of holes in 12” c channel with it out of the box. The 4th hole the magnet quit working and spun around before it shut off. Boxed it up and sent it all back before I lost a hand with it instead of just bruising it.

Used it to drill 10 3/4” holes right out of the box and did it in under 20 minutes; a feat that used to take 10 minutes per hole now only takes 60 seconds. Setup on the drill is straightforward and just plug the coolant line in without cutting it so that at full extension it has enough line to not bind. I shortened mine and had to replace it. Use water based lubricant on HSS annular bits and coolant on carbide not in the instructions... Lastly the rack and pinion for vertical movement has a extra slack between up and down and when starting a hole if there is any slack it will skip. Jason D.

I hated this product! The quality was terrible! I plugged the unit in when I received it and it immediately blew the breaker!!! Then I expected a replacement in a timely manner for a planned job but only got the run around! Don’t Frustrate yourself! Just buy a brand name unit!!! This unit is a Zero star!!!

I'm usued to using a Hougen mag drill for my trade but I wanted something for home use so I gave this a try. It's a value that works. The magnet is powerful and the unit has worked well. The cutters it comes with are on the cheaper side but for 11 cutters and a mag drill I'm happy for the price. Safety wise I'm cautious when I use this machine though. First reason is there is no magnet drill interlock (the magnet doesn't have to be on to start the drill and you could accidentally shut off the magnet instead of the drill) also there is no safety switch shut off under the drill if it pushes off the metal surface your drilling. These are 2 features I've liked with the Hougen drills this one lacks. But this also lacks the extra 800 dollar price tag

I bought this because I would borrow a high dollar mag drill (Hougen $900 unit) from someone a few times a year. I figured for the price I wouldn't get a great unit but the 3-4 times a year I'd use one it would be fine. This doesn't have the power the one I borrow does but its very close and did great. I was really surprised at how well it did quite honestly. The magnet is decently powerful for anything I will do and the unit doesn't weigh a ton so its a bit easier to move around. Overall I am glad I bought this and would buy again if I needed it.

I had a missing piece and contacted the manufacturer via Amazon seller contact. They quickly resolved the issue. The drill bits cut fast and clean (used it on 1/4" mild steel for 8 holes so far) but make sure you use plenty of cutting oil. I'm just a DIYer and this meets my needs at a great price compared with the "yellow" brand.
