I have the 6wt Vesper Rod. It is by far one of the best rods I have bought. I also have a Sage 4wt. The Vesper casts and has better action than my Sage. I have yet to catch a big fish on it, but have caught several smaller ones.

I wanted to try fishing for Coho from the beach, and needed something larger than my other fly rods. This (and the creede reel) was on sale for half off so I decided to give it a try. For the price I got it at, I am happy with it. Had I paid full price, I think I'd still be just as happy. It's a solid rod at a very good price. I also used it to chase steelhead this winter and plan on using it for large mouth this spring and summer :) I also have the 3wt for small creeks and it's an amazing little rod. The quality of Moonshine Fly Rods are beyond expectations. I bought a Vesper 4wt 9’ rod and what a rod it is. It is super light (2.7 oz) and looks beautiful. When I first placed the order I went through Amazon. Although the rod was not damaged, the rod case was torn open on one end. Since the box showed no signs of damage, I have to believe someone at amazing was careless. Nonetheless, I emailed Moonshine and they told me to return it to Amazon for a refund. I made the next purchase directly from Moonshine. Dakota not only answered several of my questions, she helped me make a final decision on the Vesper. By buying directly from the company I also received a 10% LEO/Military/First Responder discount on the rod. I received the same discount when I added the Ross Reel Colorado to the order. There is an additional 10% off when you buy a reel with the rod. Great savings on an already great price. And shipping is free. The Colorado model Ross Reel is a classic reel redesigned with modern materials. Gorgeous reel and really like weight. Perfect match with the lightweight Vesper rod. In closing, this is a great company making great rods, and providing their customers with amazing service. Thank you Dakota. Thank you Moonshine. As an update to my review, I felt the platinum color of the Ross Reel was not a good look with the darker color of the Vesper Rod. Personal preference since the platinum color is still a great look. Nonetheless, I asked Moonshine if I could exchange the platinum color reel for the Black color. A simple email to customer service and within an hour of me making the request I received a notice that my reel was on its way. I cannot say enough about this company. I have been coveting and looking at Moonshine rods for a while now as I really love the designs and attention to detail. No clue as to how good they were as actual rods. So when I saw the Outcast II 8wt come available during one of the large sales I didn't blink and ordered a rod for an upcoming trip to Mauritius. I am not joking in saying this rod will make you look like a pro! Every site cast literally placed the streamer or dry fly (yes dry fly for bonefish, who thought it!?) within a foot of where I was casting and layed the line perfectly EVERY SINGLE TIME! I landed some small guys, but the action on the set and keeping the hook set all the way to bringing the fish's in was flawless. So in summary, an amazing rod which is light but has some awesome power and an amazing discussion provoking design! ... show more

Did a great job for me in Alaska. I was given a 8wt penn fly rod/reel but also needed a lighter weight for Dolly's. I used the 5wt Moonshine with a 6wt reel upstream for the Dolly's but also had no issues bringing in Silvers, Pinks, and Chums. Definitely recommend.

I'm afraid I haven't got a chance to use it yet, because the reel I ordered (from a different company) needs to be upgraded to a larger size. But when I unpacked the Outcast and put it together, my housemate and I oohed and aahed over it as we slashed the air in my living room. Really nice. The only thing I wish to be different would be a case that includes a space for the reel. But it's a nice piece of work and, yes, I'm the guy that emailed you about dreaming about setting this thing up with line, and knots and superglue, etc.... I'll get back with a better review in a few months. But curse that red tide here in central western Fl. I can't keep any trout, redfish or snook. Well, guess I'll be looking for big tilapia or maybe the odd pompano, which I have never caught. Keep up the good work guys and gals. Eric ... show more

This is the nicest fly fishing rod I’ve ever owned. Extremely well made and it looks it too! It comes in a nice hard case with a complete extra length tip in case you break one. Moonshine does a great job and it shows. If you are into Euro Nymphing, you cannot go wrong with this rod. Highly recommended ... show more
