I chose this test because I had black spots on my bathroom ceiling. I liked that it came with three lab tests included in the price. Since I started noticing some black come out of the HVAC vents in our main living spaces, I thought three tests would be a great option for us. The surface test is quite easy. Take a sticky test strip, lightly touch it to the surface where you think the mold is, put the strip in a plastic enclosure, label the enclosure and make sure that label corresponds with the form you send in. They provide you with the form, all of the materials, and a prepaid return envelope. I found out we had way more mold in the HVAC vents than those little black dots in the bathroom. I think I sent the samples out on a Saturday and got the results back Friday. I sent the results to the housing company we rent from and got my vents cleaned out pretty quickly. I’m confident they never would have cleaned the vents if I didn’t already prove there was mold in them. I would definitely buy this kit again! ... show more

Fast results & I love that you can pay for additional testing (especially bulk items). Lab fee included in price for the first 3 samples, I think. I also love that it quantifies results by “minor, moderate, severe”

Updated review: When I informed the company that I had not received my results for quite a while, the CEO of the company contacted me, apologized, and rushed me a new kit. He also hunted down the misdirected test kit, lost in transit through "Smart"-post. After 2 business days, I received the test results, which, as others have indicated were easy to understand but not at all lacking in information. I highly recommend this company and, should the need arise to surface test again, I would not hesitate to purchase from them again. The only reason I did not give them 5 stars was because of the shipping method, since it appears that others' kits have gotten misdirected as well. ... show more

    • Positive for what I thought, and then some, but inconclusive to my health
It came up with findings I feared, and then some and honestly I want to get a third opinion, because the first one was inconclusive but I am happy and I'm taking these findings to my doctor. See if any of the same types of mold are in my system as I suspect to have been for years because of the house so I will follow up. it is unfair to ask me to star the accuracy since I have no control or other test to compare it to at this time. But obviously, I suspected mold and it came out with mold worse than I thought. Seeing a new doctor at the end of the month test can take a month or two to come back with results so have patience. It's definitely an easy test to do and the envelope is enclosed with a packing slip marked so you can send it out UPS or FedEx I think it also states that you could put it in the mail too, but I sent mine UPS. You get to send three samples that are already included in the kit and up to 10 samples. You will need to pay $15 for each additional sample after 3. I paid for an extra two. Also, you will find out what kind of mold and the quantity in your sample is what it says, if you want more details it is $15 extra. I have it so they text me when they receive my order. I just sent it yesterday. I will update when I get some results. We are sick at my house and my son has been in the hospital a few times lately. I'm renting so I need to make sure what I'm dealing with. It's too bad I could not get into the attic where I believe the biggest issue may be. My mold was literally tested from the ceiling in two spots of the five I tested. It's worth the price if I get some answers. It's five stars for the easiness of testing and sending. ... show more

    • Test samples were easy to take and lab results were informative
The samples taken with this kit were fairly simple to take, but be sure to read the instructions first! We followed them exactly as written, and then sent out the samples to the lab with the simple paperwork filled out. You get the option to receive text notifications about the status of the testing process once they receive the package, which is nice. We used UPS ground shipping as it was not a rush order, although you could use the postal mail service if desired but we did not want to take any chances with the samples. Results arrived within about 10 days after we shipped out the samples. The report included chain of custody section which could be useful in some cases, and the results were clearly indicated and explained for each sample taken. After they got my pre-paid samples (5 days after being sent via UPS), I got an email telling me I would get my results in another 5 business days but I could get the results the next day if I paid another 5 dollars. Just another ripoff.
