    • Attractive, comfortable all wood Murphy Bed
I ordered this to use as a guest bed. It arrived in two heavy boxes so be aware moving it to your assembly space is NOT a one person job. More about the shipping later. All the pieces were easily identifiable. The assembly instruction were pretty good, similar to Ikea furniture, and all the holes predrilled. It's important to read through the directions completely. How you align some pieces is confusing, so make sure you understand before you put in screws. Tools are included, but I found a cordless drill with a long Phillips head very useful for the tight spots. The back cabinet is built first. Once that is assembled, put it where the bed will "live." You will not need to get at the back again and once you start adding the next pieces the weight makes it very difficult to move (even with 2 strong people) without risking tearing out a screw. I got it assembled in about 4 hours. What I love: the finish is beautiful, it's solid wood and sturdy, easy to open and close, looks like a nice piece of furniture both open and closed. Three different people slept on it in the first week of varying ages and sizes including an older couple. While it is a little low to the ground, everyone found it very comfortable, slept well, and said they would buy one for their home if they had a need. So from the standpoint of it's function and as a piece of furniture I'm very happy with it and feel it was a good value for the money. The biggest negative was the shipping. For the $149 charged I did not expect the delivery person to dump two very heavy boxes in the middle of my driveway 100 feet from my front door. Where I live it rains often this time of year and without a lot of warning. It was only luck the boxes didn't get soaked before I could get help to bring them inside. Since I have a covered porch right by the front door, I felt the delivery person should have brought it further up and under cover. So try to be there for the delivery to coax them to do the right thing. Second, the boxes were not treated kindly in shipping and had several big dents. As I sorted the pieces, I found 6 or 7 of 20 wood pieces with some cosmetic defect likely due to how the boxes were handled-- scrapes, scratches, and one broken off support that was easily fixable with glue. I assembled it anyway. Most of the defects do not show, but it's still an irritation. The glides were hard to align but once I finally got them engaged the drawers slide out fine. Unfortunately there seems to be no release on the glides. Not a problem unless you need to unengaged the drawers to move the unit. I will be replacing the glides at some point. The company was very kind and responsive to my concerns about the shipping damage and the glides. I'm very satisfied with the manufacturer and the product despite the hiccups. ... show more
