All Mopar/Fiat/Chrysler vehicles featuring this style of thermostat housing all suffer from the same fate. Regular Thermostat housing failures. This thermostat housing is the solution I have been praying for. I'm surprised that the solution wasn't available from Dorman already. This product solves this issue by making the thermostat housing out of Aluminum vs Plastic. My work unfortunately purchased another company and with the purchase we acquired 14 Jeep Patriots in varying years from 2011-2016. Let's just say these are by far one of the worst vehicles ever made. Since these vehicles are driven by workers let's just say they aren't treated in the best manner. They are frequently idled 24/7 for days. Some see 5k in miles driven each month. We frequently see thermostat housing failure in these vehicles as frequent as every 6-8 months or 30-40k miles, sometimes sooner for stationary vehicles that idle a lot. I can tell you that we don't lack the knowledge or knowhow to fix these vehicles it is unfortunate that they just suffer for poor quality. Before you say its because we use cheap parts, I will tell you It doesn't matter if you purchase Factory Parts or aftermarket, they will all fail. The factory thermostat is $227 Average Parts House - Most made by Moto Rad - $100-150 Dorman (Amazon) - $65 If you have to replace and thermostat all of the necessary coolant then buying factory for it to last as long as a Dorman doesn't make too much sense financially. As of 02/2024 the manufacturer of this product seems to have listened to previous complaints about fitment and taken the liberty to shave off some material in the area of concern that was contacting the side of the engine block. Fit and finishes look decent and during part mockup, I found no issues with fitment on a 2014 Jeep Patriot 2.4L. My only concern with this product is with the included gasket and o-ring. The look and feel of the included gasket and o-ring feel off. I can't put my finger on it. It could be that they feel a bit thiner or made from silicone vs rubber, I am unsure. I al also planning on using the factory coolant temp sensor since the sensor still works and aftermarket sensors and Mopar don't tend to mix well. To ensure I have no leaks I am using some FelPro gaskets to ensure there is no chance of leaking. This is cheap insurance, since the cost is less than $15 of additional cost. Part numbers Engine Coolant Outlet Gasket - 35837 Engine Coolant Pipe O-Ring - ES 72872 Engine Coolant Thermostat Seal - 35826 I hope that this thermostat provides me with a long term solution to ensures I don't have to replace another thermostat housing for another 75-100K or longer. Only time will tell if this product will last. Im sure we will have other issues before then, but I'm hoping it's not another thermostat housing.
