Description

The Mitutoyo 530 series vernier caliper has two sets of jaws and a depth bar for four-way measurement in inch and metric units of outside dimension (OD), inside dimension (ID), step, and depth, for applications where the highest accuracy is required, especially in scientific research and in industries where parts must fit exactly. The caliper has a dual vernier scale, with an upper scale measuring in inches and a lower scale measuring in millimeters. A 14-degree vernier face angle improves visibility and helps prevent parallax error in measurement reading. The caliper’s two sets of jaws provide the capability to make OD and ID measurements, as well as step measurements, where the butt end of the fixed jaw measures one end of a work piece before its upper/lower or inner/outer steps are measured. A depth measuring blade with rounded edges provides the ability to make depth measurements. The scales are raised to slide easily and protect the graduation markings. A thumbwheel permits fast and easy measuring. A clamping screw on the upper scale rotates to control scale movement and locks to hold the sliding jaw’s position. The caliper is made of hardened, corrosion-resistant stainless steel with a satin chrome finish that helps reduce glare. The caliper meets Federal Accuracy Specifications GGG-C-111B.Calipers measure the distance between two opposing sides of an object. They make inside, outside, depth, or step measurements, according to their type. Calipers are commonly used in architecture, metalworking, mechanical engineering, and machining. The simplest calipers have two legs to mark the two points and require a ruler to take the measurement. More complex calipers use two sets of jaws instead of legs and have up to two graduated scales. Vernier, dial, and digital calipers give direct and accurate readings and are functionally identical, having a calibrated scale with a fixed jaw, and another jaw with a movable pointer that slides along the scale. The vernier caliper has a scale sliding parallel to the main scale for an additional, fractional reading to improve measurement precision. The dial caliper has a circular dial with a pointer on a toothed gear rack replacing the second vernier scale. As with the vernier, this second measurement is added to the reading from the main scale to obtain the result. The digital caliper takes a differential by zeroing the display at any point along the slide, with an LCD that displays a single value in English and/or metric units. Mitutoyo manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology equipment, and systems. The company was founded in Tokyo in 1934 and formed Mitutoyo America Corporation in 1963, which is headquartered in Aurora, IL.

  • As good as my father's caliper
Range: 150mm Resolution: 0.05mm Measurement accuracy: +/-0.05mm Part Number: 530-104
I'm satisfied with the quality of this caliper. Being a fan of analog (Vernier) calipers, I like the accuracy of the Vernier scale on this product. Clear tick marks and numbers on the body are easy to read. Holding the caliper, you feel that it is a high-quality tool. Very satisfied with my decision to spend extra money instead of buying cheaper analogs. Of note, although I ordered the caliper Mitutoyo model 530-104 (with metric scale only), I received the tool with both metric and imperial scales. ... show more

  • perfect, good price
Range: 150mm Resolution: 0.05mm Measurement accuracy: +/-0.05mm Part Number: 530-104
Bought this to replace one I had used for 35 years. (I can't find it, can't remember where I last used it, getting old.) Anyway, I bought a cheap one and returned it immediately. This on is worth the higher price.

  • Best Vernier Caliper for the money
Range: 150mm Resolution: 0.05mm Measurement accuracy: +/-0.05mm Part Number: 530-104
I use to measure bike components ... tire width, seatpost diameter etc. Very easy to read and way more accurate that I need but I seem to use it more and more these days. Very well made as other will attest. I watched a few youtube videos on how to read the more precise measurements. Great tool!

  • Mitutoyo MIJ quality is still there!
Range: 150mm Resolution: 0.05mm Measurement accuracy: +/-0.05mm Part Number: 530-101
Very comparable with my 1992 Mitutoyo caliper in terms of machining, finish and accuracy. My old one reads to 0.02mm - this one only to 0.05mm. Not a big deal as that's usually good enough and in any case you can split hairs visually for a slightly more precise reading.

  • If you're not a professional machinist, this is probably all you need
Range: 150mm Resolution: 0.05mm Measurement accuracy: +/-0.05mm Part Number: 530-101
I bought these because I wanted a quality set of calipers that would last me a lifetime, but I didn't want to throw down for one with a higher end digital readout. A wise friend pointed out to me that I didn't need more precision than I can replicate (I'm just a hobbyist who works mostly in wood), so I went with these for cost and simplicity. Wasn't disappointed. These feel sturdy despite being so light and I expect I'll still have them fifty years from now. ... show more

  • I thought it was a fake Mitutoyo 530-101 Vernier Caliper
Range: 150mm Resolution: 0.05mm Measurement accuracy: +/-0.05mm Part Number: 530-101
As everyone said the calipers came in a cardboard box and in a vinyl case with no protective padding in the packaging. The calipers would have been subjected to forces and drops from baggage and handling. On looking at the jaws (used for outer measurement) of the calipers (under a magnifier) I noticed that one of the jaw is slightly longer than the other by a fraction of a millimetre. Also one jaw is pushed in and the other out and you can feel the misalignment with you fingernails. I became suspicious, as a precision made Japanese tool would not have this inexactness. It came with an inspection certificate with the approved signature of: Y. Takahashi (Quality Assurance Manager). Also these Mitutoyo calipers cost $100 on all of the other retailers' sites while its half price at $50 on Amazon. I pulled out my precision Feeler Gauges and began measuring each leaf with the caliper. To my surprise the Mitutoyo caliper was dead accurate on the 0.05 mm leaf as well on the other leaf gauges. I used a micrometer to verify the gauge thickness. From my conclusion, this looks like a really good fake Mitutoyo, or a real Mitutoyo which was deemed to be "seconds" because of some inaccurate finishing. I will have to contact Mitutoyo to determine if its real. The only con is that the numerals and lines are too small to see - I use a magnifying glass. ... show more
