I used a Mitutoyo solar caliper for over 20 years as a mechanic and a Swiss or German dial caliper before that. The bargain instruments have gotten much better over the years. This one excells in display size and quality, smooth movement, parallel jaws, repeatability from closed to maximum, over and over, and best of all, use of a 3V CR 2032 lithium “coin” battery instead of the inferior and leak-prone alkaline 1.5V LR 44 “button” battery. These are horrible because the caliper is often dead when you need it and when you try to change the battery you find it has leaked inside— never buy anything that uses LR 44, in my opinion. The CR 2032 is in most garage door remotes and automotive key fobs. They last much longer, don’t leak, have twice the voltage and have a longer shelf life.

Short n sweet: This thing surprised me with its solid feel, ease of operation, and convenient functions. I was simply pleased that it accurately measures; I didnt spend much time comparison shopping, I just needed something to "get the job done" at the moment. At first use and each time since then I've been happy I won the "buy the first thing you see" lottery by clicking on this caliper.
