I don't really need a "competition" vest but recently picked up a few paddleboards and wanted some safety options for me and my sons so thought I'd try this out. Overall excellent construction and feels very well made and comfortable to wear. It fits snuggly and is fairly low profile compared to typical safety vests, so nice to not have the bulk when you're paddling, etc. It's pricey but quite nice. ... show more

Mission means it when it says this vest is "tailored for a somewhat athletic male body type." I used to have one. Now it's a struggle to get this zipped over my belly, but I hope to change that. If you have a belly this is not yet something that you'll want to spend a lot of money on. But if you don't, this vest will allow great flexibility and freedom of movement, while also providing great impact protection and a lot of buoyancy. Mission reveals that this "Type III" Ondo "life vest is not certified by the Coast Guard and is not intended for use as a personal flotation device." I looked at the Coast Guard standards and found that Type III PFDs / flotation aids are for general boating or "specialized activity ... such as water skiing, hunting, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and others. Good for ... where there is a good chance for fast rescue. Designed so that wearing it will complement your boating activities." Type I jackets, on the other hand, are for "open ocean, rough seas, or remote water, where rescue may be slow coming." They are required for "all vessels carrying passengers for hire." So, this jacket won't meet Coast Guard requirements for all kinds of water activities, but it is a type of PFD that is recognized and regulated by the Coast Guard. I suspect that the average athletic guy wearing this vest will be a strong swimmer who despises big clunky orange vests, and who will be delighted with this one. ... show more

This is a great life vest. It is super comfy, low profile, easy to move in and perfect buoyancy for my hubby. The smooth neoprene cover is soft against wet skin and does not chafe under the arms. It is cut well for a burly man's body - plenty of room in the chest and shoulder area which is a prob for Hubby with traditional vests. He really likes that it is slim and simple looking - no crazy colors/designs or straps and buckles. He uses it for wakeboarding and surfing behind the boat and loves that he can move freely in it and does not feel constricted. We have used it a few time having gotten it at the end of the season and he is very happy with it. It dries quickly and has not faded at all - it is generally in the sun when not on during the day so gets a lot of UV exposure. Next season will be it's test of durability but we have high expectations. ... show more

I purchased this in a medium for my son who has a 38.5" chest, and broad swimmer shoulders - it fits very snug when dry, but not too small. I was looking for a sleeker jacket than the usual suspects and this one fits that bill - very streamlined and stylish, and easy to move in. Do note that it is it not "coast guard approved", although it is buoyant. I suspect half the issue is that all coast guard approved have to have two forms of closures and this only has the zipper and not the snaps. I know there's more to it than that, but that is one of the key areas. What it comes down to is if a vest is comfortable enough that it will actually be worn, and kept on, when on the water, than it's an improvement on not wearing one. (That being said, I would not suggest these type of competition vests for any type of use if you aren't already a strong swimmer.) ... show more

Living in Florida we love paddle boarding. My son has used mine many times and wanted his own so we finally caved and got him his own paddle board, but having his own I knew he needed a good life vest. So glad we found these and ordered it for him. Fits great, and comfortably. Love that it isn't thick and bulky like most so he does get as the description says, full rang of motion which is important when stand up paddling. You really need to be able to have a good balance and rang of motion and this really allows him to have that. Great flotation device to keep my worries at least mostly at bay so I can confidently let him learn the ropes on his own of paddle boarding. I will definitely be ordering more for my other kiddos when they get ready! Definitely recommend. ... show more

With this competition vest, things just got a whole lot better. I’ve had my share of moments on or in the water that have given me cause for rethinking my approach to how I’m doing things. From being swept down river and taking a few head shots of boulders and looking up at the sky from 10 or more feet under water. Even falling off my paddle board at unexpected moments. And realizing that I should have better protection and flotation in order to stay alive. The fit is tight and there will be some weight loss involved, overall this vest is a great addition to my lake, river, beach ware.
