Edit: it's January 2021 and the car is still going strong. It's super durable and actually pretty fantastic on its four wheels as it has barrelled down stairs and steps and still manages to keep going. My five and two year old sons have a blast with it... And then we recharge!!! Original review August 2020: I was very surprised to find that the remote control car had a rechargeable battery in it. It has a little USB dongle that you can plug into any USB-a port for a few hours and the car is up and ready to go again. The rechargeable battery looks pretty much like a standard AA battery. I think this is a GREAT design because my kids often leave the remote control cars switched ON, which inevitably leads to us burning through a lot of AA's and 9V batteries. The quality of the car is pretty good. It came with tank track bands on the "wheels" which looked cool but the kids lost interest pretty quickly. We disassembled the tracks and put on the included rubbered wheels (with the included screwdriver) and did that thing fly! It is very fast. My son loves it and he burns through the battery each time he plays with it ... but that takes a few hours of running over our feet, laundry, and various toys scattered around our home. The remote control does feel a little chintzy but quite honestly it's still a five star product because of the quality of the actual remote control car, the decent range, and the fun factor. The wheels are definitely a lot more fun ... don't think we'll ever switch those out (and the pieces to the tank tracks are probably all scattered around the house anyhow). We are super satisfied with the purchase.

TLDR: The instructions say alkaline batteries, the post does not. Must use alkaline in the remote control. Nothing is more frustrating than when something does not work as expected or does not work at all. I had several AA batteries ready to go and none were working. I thought, well, perhaps they did not hold the charge. I recharged several only to have the same result, the remote would not turn on. Fortunately, I read the limited instructions in detail and happened to notice that the control needs alkaline. After searching the house for two alkaline batteries (have not used those in years), I was able to get the remote to work. The main reason for the lower rating is because I had to make last minute additional purchases for this on a holiday. The other is because I have become accostomed to ease of charge. Other RC cars have a USB cord out of the body and just house the battery full time. Removing that and connecting to the charge USB is somewhat difficult. P.S. I have two of these and each had the same behavior with the battery. Both operate simultaneously.

This is a cute little toy that packs a lot of features! It comes with a track installed, like on a tank, but it also has 4 wheels you can swap out. It also have lights! The white lights on the top indicate the the car is right-side up. Green lights on the top means "upside down" but functions just as well. With the white lights on top, the controller functions are forward for forward, back for backward, etc. Takes getting used to but lots of fun! Comes with a USB charger and 2 LI-ION batteries for the car. You'll need 2 AA batteries for the controller. Great gift idea!

The RC car is great for all terrain. It glides over carpeted surfaces so you can use it indoors. My boys took on the outdoors to test how it holds up on dirt and rocks. It worked well on both and is quite fast little car. Transitioning the tires is easy just takes some time, great for older children who can use tools. The down side is the battery life it only last about 15-20 minutes with a 4 hour charge time. The track tires also slow the RC car down so it is best to use the wheels. I noticed that the symbol is similar to the need for speed, the only difference is that they flipped it upside-down.

It's a great toy for kids and all but I had a slightly unconventional use for the RC Car. I had to run some cat 5/6 cable over drop ceiling and did not want to be lifting every tile. Figured I'd give this guy a try. Primarily choose this one because it had tracks and would be able to drive over other cables and tile separators. I needed to pull single cables in 3 different directions. The job worked out great and this car saved me a bunch of time. If I was doing this kind of work often, I wild get something bigger and heavier to pull multiple cables at a time, but pulling a single cable it had no issues. And now our kids got the car and enjoy it very much as well.
