I used this to plant some grocery store green onions and basil seeds. They all are doing well, even though it's winter. The soil does get some funny little mushrooms on it. But I think it's important to realize that fungi help break things down into smaller nutrients the plants can absorb, so they are not necessarily bad. ... show more

I bought Kellogg organic but it was filled with huge sticks and the amount of mushrooms that grew from it was alarming. So I wanted to try something else. I've used potted soil and raised bed soil from miracle grow in past with okay results although I actually feel that it can hold too much moisture. So this is the first time I'm trying this version. Very few twigs or debris. Kellogs looked like mulch and forest waste. This was much much cleaner. I didn't see any mold. It's pricey considering it's only 1.3 cubic as compared to other bags but it was rich in color and no odor. I'll wait a few days to see if I get gnats but honestly compared to what I got from others and different versions I felt this was really nice. I'm going to try garlic, carrots, and onion in containers with this, all of which died days after germination with kellogs . It wasn't wet or soaked. I ordered two bags originally . One was slightly busted but the box held the spilt out soil so I really didn't lose anything. I'll keep you posted but fingers crossed. ... show more

This is a fairly large bag of "mix" comprised of many nutrients for container plants. What I mean by, "if you know what you are doing" is, the packaging says it's an all purpose "mix" suitable for container plants. The first thing I didn't know was that potting soil and potting mix are two different things. A mix is a combination of perlite, lava and more so it's light and airy for a plant. I Googled all over the place to ask if the mix alone was suitable for house plants to include my aloe plant and a succulent vine. Not even the manufacturer had info I could research for an answer to my question. I just wanted a "yes, it's great for that," or a "No, your plant will freak out and die if you use this mix." I tend to think "all purpose" mix/soil would automatically include my succulents. It looks great for plants that bloom, so that's good. The packaging information is not the sellers fault so I felt them deserving of 5-stars. ... show more
