  • Now I Can Grow Sweet Red Peppers
Size: 1 Pack Style: 2 CF
This is great potting soil. We purchased 4 red pepper plants at our local nursery. Two plants went in the garden. The other two pepper plants went in a very large planter with half garden soil and half Miracle-Gro Garden Soil. The two pepper plants in the planter were in the front of the house where they got more morning sun. The two pepper plants in the garden got ample afternoon sun. Our tomato plants are doing great so I know there's enough sun. I might add that my husband amended the soil before planting as he always does. We have a great garden but peppers have always been a challenge for us. They just don't grow fast enough or big enough to produce much, if any nice fruit. Well, the two pepper plants in the garden were just kind of sitting there doing nothing and my husband was about to give up on them. I dug them out of the garden very carefully so the roots weren't damaged and planted each one in a one gallon container filled with pure moisture control potting mix. I set the two planters next to the one large planter in the front of the house containing the other two pepper plants. I thought those two pepper plants were doing well. Wow...you should see all four plants now. The two in the one huge planter are still doing very well and have nice good size peppers that are starting to show some color change. BUT.....the two weakling pepper plants that I put in the potting soil did a 100% turn around and started growing like crazy. The foliage is much greener in color, the plants caught up with them in fruit bearing. I've got nice big green peppers on them that look like I'll be seeing a color change coming on soon. I'm going to get a great harvest of red peppers this year. Next year I'm putting each pepper plant in it's own one gallon planter filled with Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Potting Mix. Finally...I can grow big ripe sweet red peppers. ... show more

  • Love to start seeds in this
Size: 1 Pack Style: 2 CF
This is a good all around gardening potting mix. I find it never had a lot of sticks in it- though like other potting soils it always seems to be better to buy in the spring than later in the year towards the fall. Later bags tend to have bigger 'chunks' in them for some reason. I like it enough to buy about a bag a week. In early spring I can often find better prices than this in the big box stores, but not always. The least I've seen it for is $7 on sale, but it often runs around 10-12 for 2 cubic feet, so I might as well buy it on Amazon and have it delivered and save the gas. It's really a LOT easier on my back this way. It has a lot of peat in it which absorbs water keeping the mix damp longer. When starting seeds, it is just very important to get the seed tray good and wet the first time after you start them, but then monitor them closely and don't over water - if you do the seeds can just rot instead of sprouting, but that first good watering is needed to soften up the seed shells. Sometimes if I have another mix, I will use it on the bottom and then this on TOP of my pots. That still helps keep water in. I've started tons of seeds in this in my greenhouse- they don't have a hard time at all pushing up through it because it's a finer mix than some, and it helps give seedlings the moisture they need so they don't dry out until they get some size and their second leaves. I've not had any problems with weeds coming up in it or anything either, like I have some cheaper brands. Only stuff that comes up is what I plant. The bags are a pretty thick plastic too, and I've never had one arrive busted. Amazon has been putting mine in cardboard to ship too though, so they've been arriving nice and secure. I wish they'd get the 2.5 cubic feet back in stock, it is a bit better yet on the budget. ... show more

  • Good stuff!
Size: 1 Pack Style: 2 CF
I have used Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Potting Mix for the last ten years or so, and it has helped me become a better gardener. I start a lot of my annual flowers and most of my garden seeds early, because of our short growing season. For me, that means at least 500 baby plants, often as many as 700. Many are started in deep six-packs or peat pots, and some in large open trays, all with Miracle-Gro, Since I have been using the Moisture Control Potting Mix, almost every seed germinates and they grow so fast that I have changed my start dates to a couple weeks later, so that the plants aren't overgrowing my seed starting area before the weather has warmed enough to move them outside. I am very pleased with the germination and growth rate of my little plants. Now if only I had a greenhouse . . . . ... show more

  • Good buy! No bugs.
Size: 1 Pack Style: 2 CF
I ordered a huge and heavy 2 cu. feet bag of this soil. Glad it was delivered and I didn't have to carry it from a store. Great purchase. Healthy, rich-soil and no small bugs flying around. It was fine.

  • Perfect for containers and starting plants as well....
Size: 1 Pack Style: 2 CF
Got this on close out was a great great deal when you figure delivered to your door for ten bucks w/Prime....All set for next year now......Plants really do grow nice in this mixture they look wonderful.....Stock up now if you can... Updated Dec 2016..... There are references to bugs or maybe mushroom growth.....remember this is a processed seed mix....leave a fan on near the seedlings and everything should be fine when there's air moving.....remember as well that an insect could well lay a few hundred eggs on a pin head, now put those eggs in a warm invioriment and in a few days bugs flying everywhere... After a day or two the little bugs die off or fly off but there gone... If you needed sterile soil this might not really work but for a general use soil it is pretty good.... I have used this for a few years now, making starter plants.....6 cubic feet a season and I have more than enough to do what ever comes around......also I can now re use old stuff just mix in some osmicote..... ... show more

  • Worked out great but takes a long time to dry out!
Size: 1 Pack Style: 2 CF
I used this potting soil to get a head start on growing a bunch of white queen caladium indoors. It retains water for a VERY long time (took about two weeks to dry out in a 72 degree room) so this is definitely not soil you want to plant anything in that is prone to root rot. Tomatoes and other vegetables I started in it also did well. I would not use this in pots where you have little control over how much moisture goes into it, such as rain. It holds onto water like no other potting soil I’ve tried before. ... show more
