Apply with a synthetic bristle brush, foam brush, staining pad or rag. Allow stain to penetrate no longer than 3 minutes. Remove stain that has not penetrated the wood with a clean cloth. Wipe in the direction of the grain using light to medium pressure to achieve stain color. This Minwax stain is a one-coat solid color wood finisher that dries in 1 hour. Thick and Dark - Perfect.

This stain went on very thick. This surprised me as stains are usually much less viscous. Coverage was very good and easy to apply. Love the black black black look. I applied this to rough and smooth cedar using a synthetic bristle brush. Was a pleasant experience. (considering I hate painting)

Something’s off

Used this before and I needed more of it. Maybe this one came from a bad batch cause it did not dry the same as the previous can. My chairs are sticky like and the paint isn’t sticking very well.

Very long lasting. Color doesn't fade through time. Here's a before and after of the kitchen. I had to use multiple layers for a nice dark black finish. I found it easier to use small sponge brushes to apply the stain versus a rag like most pple recommend. Make sure you buy the wood finish as well to add after the stain color dries so it gives a glossy look and for longevity. ... show more

Min Wax Reputation only goes so far.

I have happily used Min Wax products for years. This was a huge disappointment! For a “Water Based Stain” this went on thick, sloppy, and unevenly. I will never buy a stain from them again. In order to rescue my wooden cabinet I had to sand the entire application off from every surface I had slathered it on in its plastic based awfulness. When I checked in with another wood working friend he asked if I had thinned it out and I told him that the instructions said to not thin it out. I had sanded the piece to 400 grit, applied a Mon wax pre stain, and sanded that to a 220 grit, and after that is where my joy in the project went south. I should be reimbursed! ... show more

coarse pigment particles in it!

I gave it two stars instead of one because this product contains a lot of pigment (and that’s a good thing). the problem is the QUALITY of the pigments! it feels like they used coarse ground pigments instead of using high quality finely ground to make this stain. the result is a finish full of annoying specks. those specks are the pigment not being dissolved properly into the liquid (most likely due to its coarse grind). ... show more
