I used this stain on a kitchen table I made out of Ash. The tabletop is end grain, making the staining more challenging than the face grain aprons and legs. The main issue is with trying to get the color even. It's very susceptible to lap marks. I found I had to saturate the work piece and work very quickly to get it on the surface and then quickly remove it. If you let it soak in to the point where it's starting to dry, you're in trouble. Ultimately the project turned out looking very nice but ended up doing the staining 3 times until I was happy with it. That meant a LOT of sanding. And that was after spending time on smaller test pieces. The small test pieces were easier to get good results with because they lacked the drying time issues. I should mention that the humidity in my area was fairly low at the time. It can produce a nice result, but just be aware that it's not quite the same as other stains you may have used. ... show more

I disliked that the seller didn't add locking clips onto the can, so the lid came loose en route. The stain leaked out into the shipping box and covered other items that were shipped in the same box. As the stain is so thick/gel-like, it didn't all leak out, so I tried what was left over on a piece of maple. The stain itself didn't apply as nicely as I would have liked. I tried with and without a pre-stain conditioner. The stain was blotchy and didn't come out as black as I would have liked. I did a comparison with India ink, and the India ink was much blacker after one application than with this after 3 coats. Shipper - please ship this will can lid clips!! ... show more

I used this stain on a 32” round tabletop, and it’s a horrible product! I have extensive experience finishing wood, and have never seen any wood finish as bad as this product. The term ‘stain’ is a misnomer. This stuff is thicker than latex paint, and starts drying almost immediately. It’s impossible to maintain a wet edge, and within well under a minute it becomes a sticky, gooey mess that is impossible to remove. Don’t waste your money on this if you’re finishing anything other than a very small surface. Otherwise you’re going to end up sanding it off and starting over. ... show more
