Description

Keep interior wood projects looking beautiful with Minwax Oil-Modified Polyurethane Wood Finish. The water-based clear top coat combines superior durability with the beauty of traditional polyurethane. It adds long- lasting beauty and protection to interior wood surfaces including woodwork, furniture, doors, cabinets and floors. Plus, you can get more done with this protective poly coating. It’s an ultra fast-drying clear coat that allows for quick recoats in 2 hours, and because it’s water-based, it has a low odor and easy cleanup with warm water. It can be used on both finished and unfinished wood projects, and is available in a variety of sheens. Application Directions: 1. Surface must be dry and free of old finishes in poor condition, paint, wax, grease, polish, dirt or other foreign matter.2. Sand to obtain a smooth, uniform surface. Do not use steel wool. Remove all sanding dust. Thoroughly wipe clean with a damp cloth. Allow to dry completely.3. If desired, apply Minwax stain to unfinished wood surfaces. Follow directions for application and dry times. Wait 8 hours after staining, before applying Oil- Modified Polyurethane.4. Stir Oil-Modified Polyurethane before and during use to eliminate settling on the bottom of the can. Stir to rotate the product from the bottom to the top of the can. NEVER SHAKE.5. Apply a THIN coat of Oil-Modified Polyurethane using a high quality synthetic bristle or foam brush.6. Let dry 2 hours. Then lightly sand entire surface with fine sandpaper (220 grit) to ensure an even finish and proper adhesion. Remove all dust.7. Apply a second coat. Oil-Modified Polyurethane requires a third coat; repeat step 6 before application.8. After final coat, allow 24 hours before light use. Easy to use polyurethane oil/water base, dries quickly, cleans up with water. Goes on smoothly. Try to sand off any dirt and imperfections at first, clean with damp towel, let dry. Good for touch ups and worn areas.Good blending.

Review Image by I bought this kit a while ago, just getting around to setting the neck after staining/finishing. For the price, it’s not a terrible kit. However, there are A LOT of glue stains around the binding on both the body and in/around the f holes. The maple veneer is obviously very thin, so I had to be very careful sanding back those glue stains that were sitting on top of it. The neck didn’t fit in the pocket so I had to sand the walls of the pocket to get it to fit without a lot of force. Back to the binding.. there were a lot of spots on the binding that didn’t align with the body. The binding actually stood 1-2mm higher in some spots, so I had to sand those down too. Again, had to be careful with the veneer. None of these issues will affect playability, but will require extra work if you get a kit like mine. It’s almost like it skipped the QC process before being shipped. The neck isn’t terrible, it was actually probably the best piece of the kit. Frets are relatively level, no super sharp fret ends. Still going to file them down. Nut seems OK. Not even going to bother with the hardware or electronics, the tuners and pots feel pretty cheap. Have a set of pickups I’m going to install instead of the ones that came with it, so can’t say anything about them. Once again, for the price, not a terrible kit but I’ll probably shell out a little more for a nicer one with better build quality in the future

I’ve been using this finish on my guitar builds, as I really don’t have the space to spray paint. It’s time consuming, but as long as you take your time and follow the instructions, it’s well worth it. I was worried that I’d have streak marks after wet sanding/buffing, but again: take your time to properly go through the steps and you’ll have something very close to a mirror finish! It dries very quickly and leaves a very durable coat, but it’s important to do light coats at time. This finish doesn’t burn together over coats like nitrocellulose lacquer does so keep that in mind. I would apply three very light coats, followed by gentle sanding with 320 grit and repeated this process 10 times. After a week of letting it cure, I level sanded with wet sandpaper starting at 1000 going up grits to 2500, very carefully checking my process to make sure I wasn’t burning through my finish. Once I had a “matte” look, I buffed with medium cut compound followed by a fine cut polish. The result was a very smooth glass-like finish! Not quite mirror, but very close. I’ve used this finish on three of my guitar builds now, and I still have a very sizable amount left in the can that I’m keeping stored for my next project. Very happy with this finish. ... show more

New Poly Looks Good

This is probably the next generation of poly. It combines both water and solvent bases, which gives a deeper, harder finish (so they say). You don't have to worry about big stink, and the brushes clean in water. A little more money, but for a product that is still easy to use, and should last a long time. Since I used in on an oak front door threshold, it will get lots of use. I will report back in a year or two. ... show more

Simple to apply and clean up.

Applied with a foam roller and it levels out very quickly with no bubbles. Thin enough to not leave noticeable lap lines. It dries very quickly so keep that in mind when touching up.
