I just got into photography as a hobby and wasn't sure about spending a lot on a “nicer” DSLR. This little bridge camera is a great all-in-one for my needs and so far has taken some decent photos. It’s compact and lightweight so it’s not fatiguing while worn and it slips away into a pack just fine. The controls and modes take a bit of getting used to, but become easy to navigate afterwords. The optical zoom is the main reason I got this over others and it doesn't disappoint. The autofocus is a bit slow, but was still able to take a freehand image of the moon. I have only had this camera for a week, so I am still learning about it. I took it on a short trip and took around 30 pictures and a video. The pictures appear to be clear and in focus. There are many options in the SCN mode which is nice. I am pleased so far with this camera.

I had been looking for a decent camera that wasn't over $400. As an elderly man, I just wanted a camera that was easy to use, took good pictures and used batteries that could be replaced. A camera that has to be plugged in to recharge is worthless. I found this camera easy to use. The picture quality was very good and the 40x zoom was very impressive. It has a lot of features I may never use but the instruction booklet gives step by step instructions that even I could follow. I got the camera on sale but it's certainly worth the full price. I am impressed with the overall quality and vast number of features at this price point. Great tactile camera body texture and convenient small size. The 40X optical zoom is noteworthy. Nice large viewfinder/screen. The supplied camera 'bag' is little more than a spandex pouch, so I bought a $25 aftermarket hard case made for the Kodak AZ405, which for reference is the same size as this Minolta. I opted for a 128GB card and am using Energizer lithium AAs rather than the supplied no- names. IMHO this package represents a good value for a budget friendly bridge camera. Yes, I know that neither the Minolta nor Kodak cameras are actually made by them, but by contract manufacturers who have licensed the name. I chose Minolta because the Kodak uses rechargeable batteries which for ME are an unnecessary hassle. ... show more

For the price, this digital 20MP Minolta MN40Z camera has an excellent quality lens that takes high resolution pictures. Now add the ability to take high resolution sharp zoomed pictures of very distant objects, birds (egret or heron), the moon, etc. using the 40x optical zoom is a nice bonus unavailable with modern phones. Taking high quality pictures is very easy just using the Auto mode, it’s like point, focus/zoom & shoot! But if you want to take a picture of the full moon in detail (see included picture), you can use a tripod, then select the Manual mode and play around with the film speed (ISO) and shutter speed to get a nice detailed photograph. And that’s the high point for this camera, you can take photos automatically easily and also choose to customize your photos using options in the Manual mode. The included case, strap and lens cover w/attached string makes this a nice combination. I highly recommend this to anyone that likes to take high quality pictures. ... show more

Didn’t have a viewfinder, so it was like taking pictures with your cell phone, which I hate. I thought the quality of the pictures were terrible very grainy you and your subject may be completely still and be blurry. I thought because it was a Minolta it would be quality, but I was wrong.

It’s slow and I wouldn’t try to capture moving cars or pets. So far the picture quality has been pretty decent. It was on sale at Christmas, my husband wanted a camera and it’s a good starter for anyone wanting to learn DSLR without breaking the bank.

I'm very impressed with my Minolta MN40Z 20MP Digital Camera. It's very similar to most of the other brands. I had a Kodak AZ 528 that simply would not hold focus. This puppy is awesome, it has image stabilizing which helps with any shakiness on the users part. Field of view is somewhat tight, getting wide angle shots requires backing up. # focus modes, that can get confusing depending which mode you're using. I've tested it over the last couple of weeks and can't find much bad to say about it. It come with 4 alkaline batteries but suggests using rechargeable ones. The alkaline last longer than expected and the rechargeable ones do too. ... show more
