I got this MinnKota Riptide 55 SM/SC bowmount trolling motor after my water snake trolling motor went out on my in less than a year. You get what you pay for i guess and this MinnKota is worth every penny! It out performs my old broken down water snake in every aspect. I have it on my 16' scout 162 and it has more than enough power to pull it through the water even straight into 15+mph winds with no problem at all something my water snake could never do. I decided to spend the extra money and go with Minn Kota because I thought it would be a quality product. This has been a horrible decision. I have had the Rt55 for less than 3 months, and here is the list of problems: 1. 5 Speed control is actually a 4 speed control. It will RARELY go into 5th gear. 2. The handle slips when you turn it, therefore the speed indicators on the handle do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I could be in forward 4th gear and the handle may read full reverse. 3. Because of the above problem, you have to visually inspect the prop to see if you are in neutral. If you fish in murky water you will NEVER FIND NEUTRAL, and will end up messing up your boat or running into the bank when distracted trying to land a fish. 4. The Riptide comes with an "extendable" handle. This got stuck and stopped working within the first two trips. 5. The trolling motor is surprisingly loud when its on. The head makes a squeaking noise. I thought I was spending extra money in order to avoid problems. In stead, I spent more money and ended up with a product that simply does not work as advertised. Now if I want to switch to a different brand, I am stuck with the wrong pattern of holes on my bow. I will continue trying to return and/or warranty this item, but so far no luck. I bought this in September 2019 and now its May 2024 and this 52" Minn Kota Riptide Maxxum 55 pound Thrust-- Saltwater Bow-Mount Motor is STILL running like it was brand new.! This Minn-Kota 55 Trolling Motor is just what I was looking for!!! 👍 Works great on my Alweld Marsh and the cost was phenomenal. It is exactly what was advertised. I have an 18ft boat and it pulls me around just fine in the lakes and rivers. With a strong current it may be a little slow with this size boat but for most applications it will do the job just fine.

Didn’t like it delivered a day late, Amazon gave me a small credit for that, but then I get it & the battery life indicator doesn’t work at all. Very disappointed all the way around on this item. Especially with it being Minn-Kota supposedly best on the market... Amazon wanted me to dis-assemble & return the entire product. It’s kind of hard when you need another person to crawl under the bough of the boat to take it apart. Very disappointed, especially after all the money I spend with Amazon & not just every once in a while.... ... show more

Ive used these on a couple boats now. Call me old school but i prefer this over the copilot because theres just less stuff to break. A little tricky to mount, but if you pay attention to the angles, it will operate flawlessly
