  • Very nice little slide and great service
I purchased this at the end of December, cleaned it up, drilled out and tapped some holes in my minilathe (vevor 8x16) and bolted it on. Got it square with some shims and went to town. I immediately had a problem in that the slide did not turn smoothly. One half of rotation it would bind, and the other half it moved too easily. You'd think gib adjustment, but any tighter and there's no way I could move it. I took it all apart and discovered the lead screw had a wobble to it -- it was essentially bent. I contacted the seller and they arranged to send me a new lead screw. Unfortunately, the one they sent was a different length and pitch, so it wouldn't fit. After some communication back and forth, I was informed the lead screw that I had was not available. They offered to replace the vice with a new one that was from a new supplier -- however I told them that I had already modified this one to fit my lathe. The seller was kind enough to tell me to keep what I had, and they sent the new version. Now THAT is service. I got the slide the other day and made the same modifications that were required. Before doing so, however, I took every piece of it apart and degreased and cleaned it, then reoiled as I reassembled. The new slide moves very smoothly, and I can adjust the gibs just right. So all in all, I highly recommend this little slide for your lathe. Now, a couple of things to note: The clamping mechanism is not sufficient to hold your part in my opinion. If you look closely there are two vice "jaws", and those get attached to the table with 2 screws each going into square nuts (essentially T nuts, but smaller). These square nuts are small, because it has to fit all within this little package, so you can't crank down the screws tight enough without risk of stripping the square nuts. The square nuts only have about 4 threads in the nut itself. The problem arose when I tried to tighten the screws down which clamp the part, and the bottom jaw then moved. that screwed up my indexing position of the part. Linear clamping mechanism like this will always be stronger than the strength of the jaw. So the fix is to drill and tap two M4x0.7 holes in the bottom of the vice, and screw on a piece of metal (I just use a piece of mild steel flat stock, which acts as a fixed jaw at the end of the vice. I'm still using the jaw that came with it, but it's butted right up against the flat stock. Now when you tighten everything down, the top jaw MIGHT move, but that doesn't change the position of the part. ... show more

  • Poor finish work
Thus thing has a poor finish but with all mini lathes that is normal, I haven't tried it yet so can't commit but going just by looks it should perform well.

  • Capable to grip heavy parts.
There was no instruction on how to connect on my Mini Lathe, but managed to make ways and it was awesome. On the pictures, you could not even see where the clamp is, but a whole chunk of parts is just gripped by these tiny tool. However, there was no small handles. The two knobs two turn the dial is not on the package. It should have been 5 stars. ... show more
