Bought this to replace a somewhat similar vise (that had extremely poor build quality) to hold some circuit boards under a microscope, and I am absolutely blown away by the quality. This thing is so nice that it makes you feel good to touch it or look at it; honestly amazing for ~$30. A few highlights: •Beautifully machined and anodized. •Aluminum seems high-quality; excellent casting. •Steel 3/16 acme profile lead screw (no threaded rod here!). •Modular pegs are located accurately. •Pegs are POM (high performance 'engineering' -class polymer). •Relatively little lift of the sliding jaw while clamping. •Torx screwheads for pegs. •Perfectly fit soft jaws (rubber covers). •The clamp is very nice too, with similar attention to detail. The ArtyMaster Mini Drill Press Vise exceeded my expectations in every way. Its compact size makes it perfect for small workspaces and hobby benches, while the sturdy aluminum alloy build feels reliable and professional. The clamping mechanism is smooth and secure, with the rubber soft jaws providing great protection for delicate materials—no scratches or dents on my workpieces at all. Installation onto my bench was quick, and it’s rock-steady even when using hand tools or my mini drill press. The red tension knob offers excellent grip and easy adjustments for precision tasks. I have used it extensively for jewelry, watch parts, as well as PCB work, and it performed flawlessly each time. It's pretty decent for a budget mini class. I'm using this on my new model Dremel workstation (pseudo-drillpress) and it's doing it's job just fine. The unit has a satin enamel coat, jaws and boss are aluminum alloy, nothing special, but the finish is good for working with softer-than material. I suspect it will take damage quickly with harder alloys or abuse. I'm using mine with the included urethane pads. The included jobs are medium urethane, I think, the fasteners are T20 countersunk M4, easy to replace or donate to something else, need be. The leadscrew is a nice touch, although it doesn't really do anything unique, technically, beyond providing significantly smoother and predictable movements without the clunky slack necessary with threaded rods. It's significantly more accurate, but who cares? Lubrication with heavy oil or WLG will help, but this mechanism does not have a wipe; solid detritus will infiltrate, at best becoming a nuisance, at worst, causing severe binding and galling, permanently damaging the leadscrew or thread boss. The included hardware (the four base studs) is basically useless for real world use. Because this is an interference type of vice, you are restricted on the vertical head hight for the slot to slot mounts. I opt'ed for some (I THINK) M7 cap heads that have basically zero margin, paired with t-slot lugs. Because this is a super narrow interference type slot system, unless you're using this on a nonsensically small plate (like... 3×3", seriously) you will need to restrict the mount to two rearward fasteners only. Using four, unless you really don't need centering on objects bigger than a cm or so, is prohibitively restrictive. If the slots were outside of the slide geometry, this wouldn't be as big of an issue. Using two of my cap heads and t slot nuts, with a liberal slop of blue paste loctite, I have full use of almost the entire range of the vise with any centering requirements, including extended angular support, with excellent hold and leveling characteristics (vice plane almost machine-perfect parallel to plate plane). This is working well enough for pseudo end mill work on projects with dumdum tolerances just fine. Anyways, the included hardware is basically hyperbolic use case; if you need to four-point secure this little thing, you almost always will need to use different hardware that's longer for static mounting to a bench or board. It's just very impractical at best to use a simple flange nut and posi-hex bolt this short. ALL of my small dingus vices of the exact same profile and footprint that are mounted are using hacked up head carriage bolts a few inches long. It's a fair value. It would have been a plus to get some of the other hardware frequently bundled with this little guy from other sellers and sources, but whatever, I have what I need, it works well and importantly, it holds adjustments very well between work piece swap with multiple, repetitive operations. The little included T20 thing is gratuitous; it works, it's of good quality, and it can be pinned or tied to whatever so it doesn't get eaten by the shop gremlins. I'm the price range, this is a good buy. If taken care of appropriately, you should get an order of magnitude or better of your money's worth. You just have to take a few minutes putting in better hardware mounting solutions, IMO.
