Not many options for bigger kennels in a Tesla Model Y because of the height. This extended to just over 32” with no problem. Super happy with the fit and construction, not bad to put together either. Love this thing.

    • Amazing customer service from 4x4 North America!
To be fair I got a used? Variocage at a bargain price. Said possible cosmetic damage but the door was actually bent on the top. Luckily the metal was pliable and I reshaped this easily. Would have been easier to assemble a new one. Biggest issue...there is a missing screw!! Not the kind you can just get at a hardware store. No idea how I will get that. Oh the key was broken off in the lock. Luckily there is a spare and I was able to remove the piece. It was still a great deal. Update, second key broke in the lock. Apparently the lock is defective. Or the keys are just cheap. Now I can’t lock it. I will try to get a new key made from the broken keys but I think the problem is the actual lock. So much for just cosmetic damage. Update: I contacted 4x4 North America and they are mailing the replacement screw and a new lock!!! Because they are THAT AWESOME :) They think the wrong keys were included. ... show more

I like it. fits in my lexus nx with seats folded down and fits in my crewcab back seat. have a 100lb lab that just fits inside cage when fully extended....its snug but my dog is done growing so its fine. havent had a rattling problem yet, but it will make a noise or two if bounced around. I tie it down on all corners and over top because its metal and dont want it to hit a window or the roofliner. took about an hour to assemble with one person going slowly. 2 people could speed up the assembly. would be nice if all the edges were molded plastic for the price. I also have both gunner g1 crates but they are too big to fit inside my truck and car. Its an expensive option for the purpose of just containing a big strong dog, but I liked this option better than tethering or letting my dog loose inside the car. ... show more

    • I assembled my new VarioCage by myself!
My VarioCage arrived quickly and well packaged. I am not a very handy person so was worried about assembling by myself. However the visual directions were very clear and easy to follow. It took me a couple hours which was way less time than I expected.

This product took hours to assemble, and nothing fit properly because half of the pieces had bent metal. I am very handy, and I still could not get the pieces to fit. In theory, great idea. But, implementation is simply horrible. Few hours wasted on a Sunday. Now I have to repackage and send back. For this price, the darn thing should have come assembled. If you want to keep your k9 partner safe and comfortable while in the vehicle this is a must. I have two of these , a large for my GSP , and a XL for my German Shepherd.

I will be writing more at soon as I can but posting a couple of photos. The american 4x4 ripped me, a disabled veteran off! After believing everything they said about gunner and other companies I paid them 4 MONTHS of earnings for my two dogs as we are going to drive along way this week. Got the cage yesterday and paid someone to help me set it up. It fit in the cargo area of my expedition as they said it would but issues! After assembling I noticed the side panel was warped and moving! It was very flimsy! (Also a screw for the front cage would not tighten as the base of the cage was stripped. Then I notices the door latch bent up. I drive it to store to by pads for it and the NOISE! Yes it is strapped in and tied down and everything is tightened. I called and the response I got was 1. We will send you a screw. 2. Bend the latch back? (Seriously? For $1500 its supposed to be a solid crash tested cage). 3. Take the cage back out undo all the screws and SHORTEN the length so it doesn't warp? Uh NO! I bought the XXL Plus so my fogs could fit and now you want me to shorten it? Wheres the logic in that? It "may" fix your problem but not mine. I paid for this length exactly so my dogs would fit and you tell me oh just shorten the cage? Now I have to take the cage out and put it in storage with my other belongings whilst I go buy harnesses instead which I shouldve done in the first place. Buy GUNNER, or ANY other cage but not this one you may get a lemon and the company WILL not do anything but keep your money! ... show more

Been looking for a crate that can accommodate mediums sized dog (Australian Cattle Dog @ 40 lbs) without folding down the seats in the car. The trapezoidal shape of this crate maximizes the available space in the cargo bed and allows plenty of room for the tailgate to close. Worth the price, if you're particular about securing your dog in your car and you need your back seat. My only complaint is that it comes flat packed in pieces and it's not an easy build. The instructions have no words just drawings that are a just a little too over simplified. It's incredibly engineered and well planned out, but a little tricky. If you don't like putting together IKEA furniture, you're going to hate this. ... show more
