I own several Milwaukee m18 tools. I wanted a small saw to carry on my sxs. This this arrived and I used it out on the trails to cut trees. It works better than I could have imagined. I cut logs 8-14 inches thick in a matter of seconds. If bigger than 8” you have to cut on each side - obviously. I’m glad I took a chance on the 8”. I cannot imagine I’ll ever need any bigger saw on the trails. I still have my stihl farmboss if I need the Mac Daddy saw. This Milwaukee works great, battery (5.0) later to cut 3 full trees with battery left to spare. Quiet, light, built sturdy.

Excellent
M18 Fuel 8 inch Hatchet.... Run it with a 5 amp battery. Did very well. I'm impressed so far. Easy to use one handed. If you use two hands, make sure you don't hold the outside of the knuckle guard. Put your second hand inside the guard around the saw motor body. Especially for women, hold it firmly. It will tend to jump around a bit on some smaller branches. I cut up to 6 inch apple wood. Don't press down...just let the weight of the saw do the work. Listen to the motor. It will tell you how aggressive to cut. Power consumption seems reasonable. I made approximately 30 to 40 cuts of various wood diameters, and only used one bar of battery. Oiling system works well. It does seem to use more oil then I thought it would, so keep an eye on the reservoir. You can see excess oil on the bar. But I would much rather there be a little too much then not enough. As shipped, I believe the chain was too tight. Follow the owners manual and re adjust as necessary. I work at and agricultural service and we use Milwaukee M18 tools for just about everything from impacts to drills to grease gun. These are truly high quality products.

Great alternative to a chainsaw
I'm sure I speak for many women who don't want to fell trees, but have a lot of little projects that need to be done. I was using a reciprocating saw and it worked okay, but the Milwaukee is just great, so much better. I got the newest battery from E-bay and the saw is perfect for removing saplings and trees growing between my deck and fence. It's great for small stumps (I have a lot of volunteer cedars for some reason). Also, the unit is great for a woman's hands. The safety turn-on switch is within reach of even my small hands. It doesn't make a lot of noise, and then, of course, there's no gas to mix. The price on Amazon was the lowest I found. I had to buy a new battery because my old ones bit the dust. So all told with the newer battery (which I can use on other Milwaukee tools) I spent about $350 total.

It's a BEAST, you can't go wrong with Milwaukee tools
I use this saw for around the farm and apple orchard. It is extremely handy and works great for limbs up to 5". The saw balances nicely, has plenty of power, and the batteries last a long time on a single charge. I have owned a number of Milwaukee tools for my contracting business, sawz-alls, drills, hacksaws, grease gun, and impact drivers (corded and battery) and they have never let me down unlike the yellow brand. Also you can't beat the Milwaukee guarantee. My chain saw quit after about a year, hard use (three year guarantee). I returned it to Milwaukee for repair and VIOLA!! a new saw arrived via Fed Ex 10 days later NO CHARGE WHAT SO EVER! I will not waste my money or time on any other brand of power tools, period.

Great for pruning
I knew buying it it was a "tool only" box, but I had to run out and get some bar oil which I think a little 4oz bottle really should have been included. Not a big deal, just an annoyance. Overall I haven't been able to stall it out on some living 2" crepe myrtle trees, and I'll be hitting the elm in a few weeks. It cuts fairly quickly and smoothly. Where it falls short of doing really well are small limbs under 1/2", the saw tooth blades sometimes jump because the tiny limb jumps and wiggles too. Not a big deal because thats not specifically what a chain saw is for but cutting a bunch of limbs for pruning you will have to deal with them eventually. Its not terribly loud but an afternoon of lugging this thing around will make your arms sore. Its not surprisingly heavy, just cumbersome and it does have a little heft to it. I'm not certain they could make it lighter but 1 handed use while on a ladder is definitely possible where a gas chainsaw wouldn't be usable. Very excellent tool!

Love this saw!
We bought this to use on a frequent basis on our wooded lot. It is so easy to use, size is perfect for both men and women. We have used it to cut apart up to an 8" tree with ease, and it has a long battery life. We have never run out of battery on any of the projects we have used it on. Like all Milwaukee products, it durable and high quality. Great value for the money!

The machine is fine. The chain was not.
The folks at Milwaukee need to learn a thing or two about saw chains. This machine is fine; the chain that came on it is very poor quality and held an edge for only one battery and a half (5 A-H batteries) before going duil and smoking while cross cutting in soft cedar. Cedar is almost invisible to a quality saw chain. A USA-made Oregon chain would still have been sharp and cutting well many times as long. I use Husqvarna-brand chain oil and the reservoir was always at least 1/4 full. A cheap chain does this good machine no favors. Now I need to have a couple of quality chains made up in this size.

A GREAT tool to have
I've placed over 200 Amazon orders since 2017, and the Milwaukee Hatchet stands out as one of my favorites. Recently, I really put it to the test by using it extensively, covering about a mile round trip while working up and down my driveway and some work in the front field. I was so impressed I wondered what it might do to a large tree log, and the Hatchet held its own. Now, in perspective, the hatchet is an 8” blade, and this log was as big around as I could hug and just touch my fingers together. Of course, I didn’t plan to finish a cut that was unnecessary to begin with; this was but a test, and one the Hatchet passed. It's clear this tool can handle the jobs it’s marketed for. I'd definitely purchase it again, and I will even consider as a gift for friends and family. Kudos to Milwaukee for a great product.
