I took the time to read reviews, so when my pillow arrived I unwrapped it, and removed the outer cover, then placed it in my closet for two days to airate and puff up to full-size undisturbed. Then I replaced the cover and set it on my bed. For me, the stuffing is perfect, no need to add any extra and I haven't removed any. I like the option of being able to do both. There was no extra padding included in my package which I was grateful for because I wouldn't have needed it or had a place to store it. The instructions said I could have placed the pillow into my dryer on fluff for 10 minutes to reconstitute it. (if I had wanted to ) also a recommendation from the manufacturer if it needs re-fluffing after use. This pillow is soft to the touch, and feels soft against my back while also being firm and supportive. I place it against the wall at the head of my bed and lean against it comfortably. I have also used it on my couch as additional back support and it works great there also. I am under 5' tall so sitting on most couches is uncomfortable unless I sit Indian style or with my feet tucked in under me. This pillow allows me to sit comfortably with my feet flat on the floor or proped up on the ottoman without having to slouch to do so. I like that I can take the stuffing out of the inner cover and soak (hand wash... not machine wash) the inner cover if it gets soiled, and then restuff it when dry. The removable outter cover is machine washable which is nice. I am guessing the stuffing could be machine washed/dried on gental cycle seperaterly after being placed in a mesh bag. I will probably give it a try at some point due to todlers and cats living in my home not to mention my own clumbsiness. I have had other backrest pillows (TV pillows) before they were supportive and firm, but hard and heavy, and machine washing was not recommended. Although I did machine wash them when they became soiled (had to or throw out). They always threw my machine out of balance and took forever to dry. This pillow is a true upgrade with major convenience factors. I highly recommend this pillow.

First of all I’m gonna say it…I was scared when I first opened up the box & vacuum pack & saw a thin, limp & lifeless pillow, but knowledge & patience served me well! I worked the clumped together memory foam apart (it’s actually sort of satisfying once you get the knack for it), & now I have an amazing pillow only a few hours later. I’m mostly using this as a comfortable way to nurse in bed & on the couch, & prevent my posture from getting slouchy & my back from hurting. Let me tell you, it’s a complete game changer, & I’m saying that after just one use! Had I known better I would’ve put this on my registry with my previous child! Don’t let the negative reviews dissuade you from this item if you want a comfortable back rest with the arms. What I’ve noticed from all of those reviews is that they come from people that just didn’t bother to read & follow instructions. If you simply pull this pillow out of the box & vacuum pack & expect it to be at its full potential immediately, you’ll be massively disappointed. It really doesn’t take a lot of work, & it’s an amazing back rest! With this being memory foam it sits up better on its own than any other standard batting filled pillow that I’ve ever owned & has a satisfying heaviness to it that makes it so stable. The other thing I enjoy about this pillow is it’s super soft removable cover…it’s very comfy, & with 2 dogs & 2 young sons I need something I can throw in the washing machine & wash properly, & not just spot clean. One use & you’ll be saying “just take my money!”…let me assure you, you won’t regret buying this back rest pillow.

I’ve really been enjoying this reading pillow. I use it on my bed when I read or scroll on my phone, and it’s been so comfortable and supportive. It definitely makes relaxing in bed a lot easier than sitting upright in a regular chair. For me personally (I’m 5'5”), the pillow feels a little small. It works, but I think it would be perfect for kids, teens, or adults who are around 5'3” or shorter. If you’re taller or need something more supportive for long periods (like working on a laptop or sitting upright for a long reading session) you might want a bigger, more structured option. But overall, it’s still very helpful and worth the money. I’d definitely recommend it for someone a bit smaller, and I still enjoy using it even at my height.

Edited 7/27/25 Unfortunately this pillow has not worked out. The memory foam inside has squished flat at the top, preventing the pillow from providing support in a sitting position. Video shows how the top is flat. The pillow doesn’t hold a shape, so it is just a big lump. I’ll be looking for a replacement. I’m 5’6” and 200 lbs. After two days of allowing this pillow to expand (and it did take 2 full days) it still looked child size to me. I was already trying to figure out how to suction it back down and into a box for return. But I decided to give it a try and I am pleasantly surprised. The memory foam is extremely comfortable on my back. It is plenty big, it’s soft and not hot or cumbersome like I thought it would be. The fabric is nice and feels very good on the skin. My main purpose for choosing this pillow was the fact that the cover can be removed and washed easily. I have unzipped and removed the cover to test it out and it’s a very easy removal. I highly recommend this pillow.

There are so many falsely high rated products especially now that companies are paying people to buy their products online and leave positive reviews as verified buyers that’s its hard to expect much even from highly rated products. Aside from the high ratings, the reason I bought this reading pillow was that you could remove and wash its cover and that you could buy replacement covers. All of my previous reading pillows came from retail stores and we’re pretty much the same quality so I can’t give you a true comparison since this one is definitely superior to them in all aspects other than aesthetics. But the simplicity of the reading pillow makes it that much more functional. It came tightly bundled air compressed package. Because it didn’t look like much, especially compressed, I didn’t have high hopes and thought it would be similar to other reading pillows but with the added bonus of having a removable cover. I was wrong!! And I’ve never been happier to be wrong. The velvety material is so soft and once the pillow fully decompressed, gave me the perfect mixture of soft cushion and support that I felt like Goldilocks!! I involuntarily let out a loud sigh once I sunk into its embrace. I’m actually leaning into it as I type this on my phone with my elbows resting comfortably on the arm rests. Since I’ve only been using it for less than an hour I can’t tell you about how durable it is though the stitching looks quite durable. I can only tell you that it was so comfortable I had to write this review and say YES!! It’s really worth it!!

Supportive but Loses Shape Too Quickly The Milliard reading pillow sounded like the perfect solution for sitting up comfortably in bed, and at first, it really was. The shredded memory foam feels supportive without being too hard, and the arms give a nice “hugged” feeling that regular pillows can’t match. The removable, washable cover is another plus—it’s soft to the touch and easy to clean. The problem comes after a few weeks of steady use. The foam inside begins to compress and lose its shape, especially at the top, leaving the pillow feeling more like a lumpy cushion than a structured backrest. While you can add or remove foam, it doesn’t quite restore the original support once it starts to break down. For taller users, the pillow also feels undersized—it doesn’t reach high enough to support the shoulders or upper back well. Another thing to note is the off-gassing smell when first unpacked. It does fade after a day or two, but it’s noticeable at the start. The pillow also arrives vacuum-packed, so it takes a full day or more to fluff up before you can really use it. Bottom line: This reading pillow is comfortable in the short term and has nice features like a washable cover, but the foam doesn’t hold up over time. If you’re looking for occasional use, it’s fine. For daily back support, you’ll probably want something sturdier.

I have had this pillow since December 2024 and it is well worth the purchase. I allowed the foam to fluff up for at least 48 hours to make sure it expanded and will hold up. And it has! I took this video in August 2026 and it’s holding up perfectly.
