First, I love all things "Mikasa". In 1986 my husband bought me a complete set of Mikasa "Sketchbook" china by Bob Van Allen. I still have every piece and it is still magnificent and on display! This purchase, the Mikasa "Kiley" Bone china is absolutely beautiful. The dishware is light weight and very elegant and I do use it for our everyday dishware. I would not advise this Mikasa Kiley for a home with young children, the dishes feel fragile. They do say on the back they are dishwasher and microwave safe, that is a huge plus! (They would not be safe dropped on the floor or knocked off the table) I am so glad my days of raising children are over. I use different dishware when the grandkids are here. ... show more

These dishes are pretty, but accommodate the average appetite ; ) Both the dinner plates and the smaller plates are a generous size, the bowls are a nice depth, and the cups are a nice size as well. I was also surprised how light these dishes are, not quite as light as Corel (and they don't claim to be, that is just my standard for light dishes) but they are not heavy, as many such dish sets often are. I also like how the design doesn't repeat exactly, but compliments all the pieces. ... show more

My friends just roll their eyes when I tell them I've gotten yet another set of dishes, but I just cannot resist beautiful dishes. So it only made sense to me to acquire this set from Mikasa when I saw it on Amazon/Vine! I love blue and white in so many things, from clothing to dishes to linens to drapery panels and more. It is a classic color combination and one I have had in my homes for many years. I ordered them, and they arrived not only quickly, but oh, so securely packaged. I unpacked them and just fell in love with these dishes. The patterns are a classy country style which is very appealing, with the floral and lattice complementing each other beautifully. The size and weight of each piece is just right. The bone china finish is glossy and immaculate as well. I am NOT going to use these dishes around children as I want them to last me for years and years, and things do have a habit of breaking with kids in the picture! This, by the way, is my 2nd set of Mikasa dishes, and I have a feeling it won't be my last! ... show more

    • FULL starter set at a good price
So many of these sets leave out the mugs, so they're not actually FULL starter sets. This one is, in fact, complete, so that's what's bumping it up from 4 to 5 stars. The other reason it's landing in 5 star range is that it doesn't match. It coordinates. I like a unified look, but I don't like everything having to match exactly. I want to be able to blend in other solid white pieces or solid blue pieces, or patterned pieces that have the right colors, and this sets that up nicely. You've got geometric print and flowers (and to some extent lines with the rims being blue) already playing nicely together, so you can add in more blue, white, or blue/white items to add further interest and fill in additional needs like mini plates, dipping bowls, serving, etc. Since this is Mikasa I'd feel pretty sure that you can google and find more pieces that match with this specific line, but also you're not *limited* to that, so you can have more fun with it. Considering all that you get in this set, I think it's a solid price. Shop around as always, though, because you never know when you can catch these things on sale at one of the anchor stores at the mall (and most of them have free shipping thresholds lower than the price of this, even on sale). ... show more
