Assuming a coffee these days from any coffee shop is around $8 for a cup, you'll pay this off within a year if you drink at least 1 cup per day. That being said, the coffee that this machine makes is so good. I've tried so many different cheaper coffee makers that I probably spent close to the same amount as if I just bought this one to begin with. There are so many options that you can play with and so many variations of different coffees that you can make, it will probably take you a week of use to figure out what coffee you like best from this machine. It's also just so easy to use. I use whole beans, fill up the bean container, add water into the dispenser, put the milk tube straight into the milk bottle, place a cup down and press the coffee I want. It grinds up the beans, brews and pours the coffee, adds frothy milk, and rinses itself after you're done using it. You just need to clean up the milk components and empty any waste water from the drip tray. Every so often, it will warn you that you have 50 more cups of coffee before it needs to be de-scaled. When and if they work, Miele super automatic coffee makers, produce some of the best espresso drinks and milk-based beverages that you will ever taste. And they do it with incredible ease and sophistication. Sadly, however, they have numerous software and design issues which cause them to fail in unrecoverable ways. Many users report a problem with the machine getting stuck in a descaling loop, others have trouble getting the brew unit to properly reseat, and now my problem can be added to the list. Take the machine out of the box, plug it in, answer the first few questions that it gives you, and the machine is stuck with an error code. It just says “close the door”. The door is closed, of course, and there’s no way to cancel the message or bypass it. Seems like something that a simple troubleshooting step ought to be able to address. But there is no troubleshooting step for this. And here is the critical bit: Miele customer service is the worst customer service in the world. When you call them, they don’t even understand what machine you’re talking about. They have such limited knowledge of their own products. There is no team of technicians available to help walk you through problems. They basically just tell you to search their website. Your only option for addressing a problem with this machine is to give them $300 in advance and they will promise to try to fix the problem. Of course, if they can’t, you lose twice. At this price, a machine like this should be backed with confidence by quality customer service. And it should work flawlessly out of the box, and for many years. Having just replaced a Miele coffee machine that became increasingly problematic, which they were unable to help us service, we made the mistake of buying another one of their products. When it failed out of the box, and there was no troubleshooting available, and customer service refused to help us, or worse, was unable to help us, we decided to just return it and buy something better. Delightful. Love Mieles for their ease of use and quality of machines. This one lives up to its name in milk perfection. Lovely lattes made just right. It's a little more fussy, but you can make life easier on yourself. I knew I didn't want a separate carafe to empty, fill, and clean... Give me simplicity. The milk intake straw comes in two parts. After making a latte, I separate the stainless straw from the plastic tubing connector and rinse the straw right away. I put the other section into it's resting spot, press the option for cleaning the milk system and walk away. I tried a couple other named brands years ago before choosing a Miele. They all had weekly cleaning regimens that I didn't want to do. This double pipe system is a tiny bit more complicated, but the foam is so lovely and makes the extra step worth it. ... show more

Worked for 3 years without a problem. Suddenly the brew unit won’t insert. Tried everything per the manual. Called Miele and was given 3 numbers for repair in my area. -I live in a big city. Two of the repair shops said they don’t repair this brand. 1 is shady and insists on coming to my home rather than I drop it off at their shop. Basically, once the machine demonstrates an inevitable malfunction, Miele customer service is ineffective and upstanding Miele repair is very hard to locate. Miele advertises customer service and local authorized repair, but both are ineffective. Waste of money! ... show more

    • Great coffee and milk drinks from this pricey machine, a few bugs

Pros: -Great hot coffee and milk-based beverages. It starts up fast and has a nice LED light. -With the onboard screen or the app, you can customize your amount, flavor, tastes, etc, basically everything about the drink -Setup for being very energy efficient from the factory, turns itself off after a set amount of time (we've upped this because it was 20mins) -Holds a decent amount of water, more than lesser models in the Miele line -Long time between cleaning cycles with tablets or liquids, however you do have to clean it every day if you use it. Cons: -For any double drinks (which are most of our drinks), it has to brew coffee twice in two different steps. I've used other machines and for a double drink, the other machines just brew more at one time and so they are much quicker. -Occasionally, even from the first time we used it, when making a milk-based drink instead of grabbing milk from the container, it will just go crazy and make a bunch of milk steam. It's even happened right after we ran it through a milk tube cleaning cycle. It's almost enough to make consider having it services because it happens about 25% of the time making a milk-based beverage. You have to make the drink over again. -The app setup process kept failing when actually adding the device to a profile. After about 4 days of trying it finally worked. Overall, we do love the machine. We don't need a full coffee maker to make a pot at a time and we don't want the waste of a cup-style instant coffee maker so this works well and it was a nice splurge on ourselves. ... show more

Met my expectations of having the quality coffee I’ve been craving. I have had the unit for a couple of months, and have gone through the maintenance programs to descale and clean etc. There are definitely some details you need to follow the first time around. If not I understand why some folks got frustrated and had a negative experience… not to discredit others that have had faulty units. You do need to consider if you have upper cabinets … and it’s going on your kitchen counter, you will need to slide the unit out from under the upper cabinets to fill it with water. If you drink as much coffee as I do, this is daily. Despite getting over the initial shock of the price for a coffee appliance , I have no regrets and I have the pleasure and privilege of having the best coffee and espressos every day. ... show more

I love my new Miele CM 6160 Milk perfection. It is easy to use and makes wonderful coffee including black coffee, latte, cappuccino, espresso and variations very easily. I like to make cappuccino with a double shot of expresso. You can save user profiles but I have not done that yet as the automatic options are many and easy to use. It self rinses the milk system making it easy to keep clean. I read some people complained about the software sticking in rinse mode, but I have had no problems with it.
