Assuming a coffee these days from any coffee shop is around $8 for a cup, you'll pay this off within a year if you drink at least 1 cup per day. That being said, the coffee that this machine makes is so good. I've tried so many different cheaper coffee makers that I probably spent close to the same amount as if I just bought this one to begin with. There are so many options that you can play with and so many variations of different coffees that you can make, it will probably take you a week of use to figure out what coffee you like best from this machine. It's also just so easy to use. I use whole beans, fill up the bean container, add water into the dispenser, put the milk tube straight into the milk bottle, place a cup down and press the coffee I want. It grinds up the beans, brews and pours the coffee, adds frothy milk, and rinses itself after you're done using it. You just need to clean up the milk components and empty any waste water from the drip tray. Every so often, it will warn you that you have 50 more cups of coffee before it needs to be de-scaled. When and if they work, Miele super automatic coffee makers, produce some of the best espresso drinks and milk-based beverages that you will ever taste. And they do it with incredible ease and sophistication. Sadly, however, they have numerous software and design issues which cause them to fail in unrecoverable ways. Many users report a problem with the machine getting stuck in a descaling loop, others have trouble getting the brew unit to properly reseat, and now my problem can be added to the list. Take the machine out of the box, plug it in, answer the first few questions that it gives you, and the machine is stuck with an error code. It just says “close the door”. The door is closed, of course, and there’s no way to cancel the message or bypass it. Seems like something that a simple troubleshooting step ought to be able to address. But there is no troubleshooting step for this. And here is the critical bit: Miele customer service is the worst customer service in the world. When you call them, they don’t even understand what machine you’re talking about. They have such limited knowledge of their own products. There is no team of technicians available to help walk you through problems. They basically just tell you to search their website. Your only option for addressing a problem with this machine is to give them $300 in advance and they will promise to try to fix the problem. Of course, if they can’t, you lose twice. At this price, a machine like this should be backed with confidence by quality customer service. And it should work flawlessly out of the box, and for many years. Having just replaced a Miele coffee machine that became increasingly problematic, which they were unable to help us service, we made the mistake of buying another one of their products. When it failed out of the box, and there was no troubleshooting available, and customer service refused to help us, or worse, was unable to help us, we decided to just return it and buy something better. Delightful. Love Mieles for their ease of use and quality of machines. This one lives up to its name in milk perfection. Lovely lattes made just right. It's a little more fussy, but you can make life easier on yourself. I knew I didn't want a separate carafe to empty, fill, and clean... Give me simplicity. The milk intake straw comes in two parts. After making a latte, I separate the stainless straw from the plastic tubing connector and rinse the straw right away. I put the other section into it's resting spot, press the option for cleaning the milk system and walk away. I tried a couple other named brands years ago before choosing a Miele. They all had weekly cleaning regimens that I didn't want to do. This double pipe system is a tiny bit more complicated, but the foam is so lovely and makes the extra step worth it. ... show more

Met my expectations of having the quality coffee I’ve been craving. I have had the unit for a couple of months, and have gone through the maintenance programs to descale and clean etc. There are definitely some details you need to follow the first time around. If not I understand why some folks got frustrated and had a negative experience… not to discredit others that have had faulty units. You do need to consider if you have upper cabinets … and it’s going on your kitchen counter, you will need to slide the unit out from under the upper cabinets to fill it with water. If you drink as much coffee as I do, this is daily. Despite getting over the initial shock of the price for a coffee appliance , I have no regrets and I have the pleasure and privilege of having the best coffee and espressos every day. ... show more

I purchased this as a gift for my wife for Christmas. Since we started using it in January it has only worked for a handful of days due to the lines being clogged. We have already sent it in for service once. It worked for 1 day after getting it back and now we are having the same issues again. I am in the process of sending it back again for service. They tell me I can’t even be considered for replacement or refund until we have done this at least 3 or 4 times. To pay this much money and have to deal with this is incredibly frustrating. Stick with your old fashioned tried and true coffee makers. This thing is garbage and an absolute waste of money. ... show more

EDIT: After owning it now for months, I can say it has been a hastle-free experience, and have become accustomed to the unit, my only real complaint still is in the screen --- it is at 90 degrees to the countertop, I would like to have seen it aimed "up" a bit more so I don't feel like I have to stoop. This is, at this point, my only real complaint. Cleaning is easy! Old 10 year old Miele CM died, after looking at their product line, this was the closest to what we had. Lets start with the bad... 1] The display is angled for 8 year olds. On the counter I have to stoop to read the display as it is 90 degrees to the floor and very difficult for me to read without stopping. Its bright and not a contrast problem -- it is just ergnomincally not ideal. My wife who is shorter than I am says it doesn't bother her. 2] The navigation is not friendly to buttons. The old CM had a dial and a button -- it was easy to scroll up and down to get to the menu item I wanted. This combined with the ergo unfriendlyness made it very easy to start a milk cleaning cycle when intending to rinse. 3] The milk cleaning cycle --- on you start it...it can't be interrupted. Even a hard power cycle does not return you to starting position. Perhaps becuase the cleaning agent is toxic and they want to ensure you don't drink it? I'm sure thats the reason. The milk cleaning cycle is also demanding where adding too much or too little water will cause it to error and you have to start over. I am guessing this is the reason for the high degree of low reviews. I'm really not sure how this didn't get caught in focus groups and user testing. These 3 features are a "toxic" combination 4] The bean hopper is in a terrible place. Its hard to fill with beans when its on a counter, at least herein the US we usuauly have upper and lower cabinets. To fill the bean hopper I have to pull the unit out from under the 'upper' I'm not sure how to fix it...its a limitation of gravity feed. The Good: The apperance is pleasant -- being white, it is not a dark appliance that is a big black hole like our old unit. It also has LED lights which brighting things even more. Its pleasant to look at on the counter The bean hopper and water tank are nicely sized. A morning of 'brew' does not take additional tanks for my wife and I who are both seriously addicted to caffein. The drinks produced are good -- very good. I like them in fact better than the coffee shop down the street. Well done. Its quiet - much quieter than our older unit. You can hear it but the grinding is the most noisy part of the brew process, and it is still quite quiet. Suggestions: - Make profile changes easier. See by complaints...yet another User Interface problem. - Make some of the buttons presets -- like a car radio. I really don't need tea settings, and like not espresso. Let me choose what the buttons do. For the price, a full size touch screen should be quite possible. Really --- they are not that expensive and would have removed most of my frustration in the first 48 hours of ownership ... show more

I love my new Miele CM 6160 Milk perfection. It is easy to use and makes wonderful coffee including black coffee, latte, cappuccino, espresso and variations very easily. I like to make cappuccino with a double shot of expresso. You can save user profiles but I have not done that yet as the automatic options are many and easy to use. It self rinses the milk system making it easy to keep clean. I read some people complained about the software sticking in rinse mode, but I have had no problems with it.
