I usually never write reviews but this deserved one. This is SO much better than I expected! It took me less than 10 minutes to set up (including removing the packaging). It literally just unfolds. It seems pretty sturdy.. I got in halfway to feel it out & it didn't creak or bend or anything. It holds my 50lb fur baby no problem (I got the Large size). This house IS NOT made for winter. It’s design is great in that it unfolds and sets up easily. However I bought it as a cat house for the winter and the floor has slats (not a solid piece) with small gaps in them (you can see thru them) and even a good size finger hole to easily raise the floor when folding it back up. So the floor has to have extra pieces of some material to cover these gaps. They say this is for “air circulation” but only during the summer would you want that much air moving thru. I insulated the floor (and the entire house) on the inside with a roll of Reflectix roll insulation from Lowe’s. I’m also having a larger top overhang installed by a woodworker as the one it comes with is only 1 1/4”. So while it is a great basic design, it could certainly be improved upon. For the price ($132) for the small house, it has taken a lot of modifications to make it winter ready which makes it a poor value. I also bought the Trixie Pet Products plastic door to cover the opening and it’s just the perfect size for the door opening and it was only $6.62. I needed a house in a hurry during a cold snap around Christmas. It came very quickly at I time I really needed it. So I am thankful it gave me something to work with but overall the price seems high for all the additions I needed to make to deem it winter ready. ... show more

I love this dog house. My plan was to use this dog house for a litter box for my cat. I decided to put in a adhesive floor tile(peel and stick tile ) on the bottom so the litter would not fall through the little slots of wood on the wood floor. Well, it turn out so beautiful that we decided to keep it as a little house for her to sleep and eat in. I order the large which gave her so much room inside. We had room for her bedding, food, toys and plentify of walk space. The tile I got also on amazon. I brought 1 10 ft pack of tile and it was more than enough for the large dog house. Now, as far as using this dog house outside I would not recommend. The wood appears to be unfinished and it would be destroyed in the rain. The large dog house is big. However, I would not reccomend this dog house for a very large dog. They would not have much room to move around in. But the large dog house would be very nice for a medium size dog. Our cat is on the plus size and is all about her space. But for an average cat you could use the medium size house. I hope this helps. ... show more

Absolutely loved how easy it is to "assemble." There is nothing to it! The doghouse is adorable..it has a light fragrance of cedar and looks cute in the yard. I'm using it to house my feral cats who hang out in the uard. So far they like it but the best test will be in the winter when rainstorms pound down on it. The sides may not be as waterproof as promised ...but we will see. It was so easy to put together that I have ordered another. ... show more

    • I got this for my tortoises.

I'm 66 and was a little worried I've have trouble moving this around and setting it up but that wasn't the case. I was able to put it in place, set it up on my own. I covered the bottom with Timothy hay and placed concrete blocks around door like a little patio as it is raised off the ground. I like that it doesn't sit directly on the ground as it will be cooler, and not a problem if we have a heavy rain. My tortoises took right to it. I really like the convenience of opening the top to check on them whenever I want. I also added an old rug as a door to give the tortoises more darkness and privacy. They love it. I love it. The unit was very easy to assemble and looks great on the front porch. Charlie loves it too :) The winters get cold here... somewhere between 30 to -30 degrees at times and I wanted the stray cats to have another option to stay warm. I am not sure if they will use this doghouse... I might have to put in an escape door to the side which I am told feral cats prefer to. However, Charlie to whom I have adopted loves the house (he's a cat who demands to go outside nightly). I also bought some used military camping mats (closed cell foam) and lined the inside of the house for greater warm. I measured all sides and nailed each piece to the inside walls, including floor and ceiling. I had noticed that after assembly (which most anyone can do... very simple) the floor boards had a bit of space between them which could make it cold. After placing the cell foam to all sides inside, I placed a dog bed for added warmth which I found at Ollies at a very reasonable price. ... show more
