  • Did the Job
Size: 5/8" x 84" Rope
This kit did the job to replace the door gasket in my Craft Stove fireplace insert. Be sure that you measure carefully so that you get the right size. Measure the width and depth of the gasket channel around the door and select the larger of the two measurements. You can also try to measure the diameter of the old gasket. There was plenty of adhesive with this kit to secure the gasket. Clean the gasket channel thoroughly to remove any residual gasket material and/or old adhesive. Wipe the channel out with a little acetone (nail polish remover). You will most likely have to cut the gasket to size. You can affix a piece of masking tape to the end of the gasket, insert it into the lower middle channel of the door and press the gasket into place to determine where the gasket needs to be cut for a perfect fit. Place another piece of masking tape on the end that needs to be cut. Allow for a little extra length that can be trimmed off when you glue the gasket in place. Remove the gasket and wipe the inside of the channel with a damp cloth. Then apply the adhesive in an uninterrupted solid bead inside the channel gasket. Again starting at the lower middle section of the door, press the gasket firmly into the adhesive in the door gasket channel, but don't stretch it. When the ends finally come together, trim off any excess gasket material through the masking tape to get a clean cut, remove any residual masking tape and press the gasket ends together with a little extra adhesive. I let the adhesive set overnight. I initially had a little trouble closing/latching the door after the new gasket was installed, but I pressed the exposed gasket edges around the entire length of the gasket, then "slammed" the door while simultaneously engaging the latch. I kept the door closed and latched overnight and was able to readily open, close and latch the door after that. I then checked that the gasket provided an adequate seal by holding a piece of paper inside the door seal and closing/latching the door. If you have a good seal, you shouldn't be able to remove the strip of paper when the door is closed. Check the seal in several places around door to make sure it's tight. Per the adhesive instructions, you should start a fire sometime within 30 days after the gasket is installed to fully cure the adhesive, gradually increasing the stove temperature to around 500 degrees F. You can see my finished gasket installation in the attached photo. ... show more

  • Cement works great - rope gasket wrong size
Size: 3/4" x 84" Rope
Make sure you measure and measure again what size rope you need. We have no regrets on the cement, but wish we had gotten the correct size rope. We had to go to a hardware store and buy a different type of rope.

  • Easy Peasy
Size: 3/8" x 84" Rope
Needed to replace my insert rope. Googled how to do it; ordered this kit and altho the “cleaning” part took a couple of hours, was easy enough to do following the included directions (and a couple of utube videos). Only problem I had was that I didn’t realize there was rope not only on the outer edge of the door, but also under the glass. I ran short (84” is what I ordered) and i had to splice about 2 inches using the old rope. Let it sit for an hour, built a nice fire and it has significantly decreased the air leakage I had in my insert doors which also keep my insert windows from creosote buildup!! Do NOT ignore the advice of wearing safety glasses when cleaning your doors with a wire brush however. That hardened creosote flips up and into your face. Will order more for my moms insert. ... show more

  • Worked great, highly recommended
Size: 5/16" x 84" Rope
The glue/caulking is very messy, but worked perfectly. Stopped about 95% of the smoke that was coming out of the doors. The only remaining smoke that is exiting is coming from between the two doors, which shere there is no gasket. Highly recommended product.
