  • A long-awaited dream come true
CPU: Snapdragon X Plus (10 core) Capacity: 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD Style: 13" LCD Touchscreen Color: Black
I’ve wanted a Surface Pro for years, and when Prime Day rolled around, I knew it was finally time to make the move, especially at the lowest price the 2-in-1 had ever hit. I picked up the black color model with the Snapdragon X Plus, 16GB RAM, and 512GB storage, and I haven’t looked back yet. My idea of an ideal laptop has always been something that truly fits in your lap, and the 13" size is perfect for that. I’ve used 13-inch laptops for as long as I can remember because they strike the right balance between portability and functionality and this Surface Pro keeps that tradition alive while also changing the game. It’s a laptop and tablet in one, and although the built-in kickstand is still something I’m adjusting to, the trade-off is more than worth it. Being able to use this as both a laptop and tablet with a responsive touchscreen has definitely been a unique benefit to get used to. The device is insanely light and portable, and it stays cool and quiet no matter what I throw at it. I have yet to hear any noticeable noise from it, which is rare in a device this powerful. To make it function more like a traditional laptop, I also picked up a few accessories: a matching Surface Pro Keyboard in black, Slim Pen 2, a USB to USB-C adapter, and a headphone jack adapter. While it wasn’t cheap to get everything, the overall experience has made it more than worth it. The standout feature is by far the battery life. Unless I’m running a heavy program or connecting to an external display via HDMI, the battery lasts longer than I ever expected. It’s genuinely impressive and easily the best I’ve seen from any laptop I’ve owned. My only hesitation lies with the ARM-based Snapdragon processor. On one hand, I love what ARM processors are doing for battery life and performance; just like Apple’s shift to silicon, it’s clearly the future. But not all programs have made the transition yet. I’ve been lucky that most of what I use is ARM-compatible, but a few programs I used on my old laptop just don’t work anymore. It’s a bit of a bummer, but I think I waited long enough that the majority of what I need does work. Overall, this Surface Pro has exceeded my expectations. It’s sleek, fast, ridiculously portable, and ready for anything I throw at it (ARM-growing pains and all). ... show more

  • Fast and light
CPU: Snapdragon X Plus (10 core) Capacity: 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD Style: 13" LCD Touchscreen Color: Sapphire
Replaced my 16" laptop with this a couple months ago and so far I really like it. It is very fast and very battery efficient. I don't have to worry about a power outlet nearby and it charges or powers from a power brick. Prism works great and all of the x86 apps I use work fine. The keyboard is horrible, but that is a separate review. ... show more

  • Great tablet, and good laptop stand in
CPU: Snapdragon X Plus (10 core) Capacity: 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD Style: 13" LCD Touchscreen Color: Platinum
I use this all of the time. It has enough power to handle my standard day to day computer and tablet needs, no need for a laptop.

  • Great battery life, easy to use
CPU: Snapdragon X Plus (10 core) Capacity: 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD Style: 13" LCD Touchscreen Color: Platinum
This product has now become my go-to device for work- its versatile, light, and has a battery life that (so far) means I never have to worry about charging it if I leave the house with the battery mostly full and forget the charger! I've had it for several months now, and I use it almost daily for several hours, outside of holidays. Some of its best uses, especially given its not a bigger laptop, are that it functions very well when you do a split screen display. I was using an hp laptop last year that, although usually very good, would sometimes black out and get confused when I tried to split screen, so the fact that this is marketed as a laptop/tablet and it can handle split screens is very impressive. I also bought the pen, which I was worried I wouldnt use much, but which I've actually found to be really useful. You can use it to take notes in the journal app, but it can also be used to highlight, copy, paste. You can also use it to write things that are then transcribed to the typeface of whatever document you're typing, which is very useful if you need a break from typing. Sometimes I've found that the writing/pen capability will get confused with the screen keyboard capability, but that's usually only happened when I've needed to switch between the two services. ... show more

  • Good device, but beware of ARM architecture on this generation
CPU: Snapdragon X Plus (10 core) Capacity: 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD Style: 13" LCD Touchscreen Color: Platinum
There is a lot to like about a Surface. The form factor is terrific and I find both the keyboard and charger excellent. Battery life is good. My uses are primarily email, documents, and web. (no heavy CPU or RAM utilizers). BUT with the ARM based Snapdragon architecture, there are applications and drivers which are not supported. Google drive for desktop is not, and Google does not plan on supporting. This has really impacted the usability of the device for me in places without wifi or poor wifi. Had I known this I probably would have gone with a Chromebook 2 in 1, as these have really come a long way and it would have been much cheaper. The second issue is that I have had reliability issues with prior Surface devices. So I would consider the extended service plan. For this reason alone, it is better to purchase the device at Amazon rather than from Microsoft directly. The third party insurance is MUCH cheaper and seems comparable. One would think Microsoft support would be better and the customer experience on the Microsoft store to be good, but this has not been my experience. So outside of these, I do love this device so far and have found the functionality good. UPDATE after 6 weeks of use. I still like the device quite a bit, and a key advantage of the Snapdragon set up is the long battery life. However, a few other issues have arisen. This is mostly minor stuff, BUT Microsoft has not provided much in the way of support on the forums and despite a large number of other users with the same issue. For example, on start up, the keyboard is not recognized by the device until the keyboard is dethatched and reattached. An external screen does not allow night light even though it is present on the main device screen. Neither of these were issues with my Surface 8. The boot up on this device is MUCH longer on this device than my old Surface 8 (and yes, I minimized start up apps and all the other things to address this). Things should get better with next generations, not worse. ... show more
