  • Instructions are meh
Ok, so the instructions are kind of...meh... The led takes a button cell battery, but it didn't say what size to use. I had some CR2032 batteries lying around and put one in there and it worked! I was prepared for a failure to be honest. I wasn't in a well lit area so use the mirror to reflect light, so the led would be my only option. I'm glad it worked. The slides included are pretty nice. It comes with some sample slides so you can look at different things. I liked the colored crystals. We looked at them at different magnifications and saw them in a different beauty each time. I would start off with the lowest magnification and work your way up each time just to be wowed. The one I got only had the course adjustment knob. The directions spoke of more than 1 version. I'm pretty happy with this. It's not going to be a kid play toy. We are going to use it for educational purposes only. If you let kids handle it without supervision, be prepared to have broken slides and scratched lenses. This is not a toy to toss in a toy box. It is an actual working microscope and is as fragile as regular microscopes. The lenses need to be kept safe. I'm going to personally keep it out of reach except when there's an adult to supervise and make sure things are done right. I like the phone attachment part for the lens. Back in college, I did that to show people what I found and it's nice that they have something for that here. It will need some adjustment after you put it on vs what you saw with your eyes, but not a big adjustment. The image will be small unless you zoom in to try to fill the space on your screen. It's circular too as the hole you're looking through is a circle. Overall, if you can get over the meh instructions, it's a good kit. The mirror is if you have outside light that you want to reflect up to the stage to light your sample if you're not using the led... or that's how I'm taking it to be... it wasn't really explained, so you need to know your way around a microscope at least a little to use this. Do know that the magnification at the bottom right above the stage are different lengths, so watch what you're doing if you have a shorter one close to the stage and decide to switch magnifications. As with a microscope in schools and labs, you will make it touch the slide and possibly break a slide or scratch your lens if you don't pay attention. Hasn't happened to me, but it's possible with all microscopes that I've used including this one. Have fun with science!!! ... show more

  • Fun little learning Microscope!!
This is a very fun learning microscope! This microscope comes with: **Blank Slides **a cover slide **Specimen slides **a Cleaning cloth for the mirror **a pair of tweezers **dropper **Culture/petri dish **Brush **Cotton Swabs **Test Tube **Straw **Gauze **Screwdriver **mirror **Freezing Tube **Experimental tube with lid **Barlow **Smart Phone Holder **Instruction manual **And the microscope! The microscope is very well made! The body has a rust-proof powder paint coating as it is very sturdy metal body. The scope is very well balanced and I have seen no scratched on the lenses. The focusing wheel runs very smooth. I've bumped it a few times and it take a little more that a simple bump to take it out of focus much if at all. This does take standard size scientific slides if you want to get more slides together! I think this is a great Biological science microscope for use in teaching! This kit has everything you could need as a starter microscope! I recommend this to anyone that is or has a homescooled student, or just anyone that likes REAL TANGIBLE SCIENCE! I'm a super nerd so I do really like this! ... show more

  • Not worth the price!
We needed a new microscope for science. I was really hoping this would be the answer. But sadly it is not. First off the light that is on the bottom doesn't work. I am not sure if it needs new batteries or what it will not turn on. The light also does not stay positioned in place very well at all. The light is just junk. As for the microscope lens, well they are not real great. No matter what I did I could not get the slide with the onion skin to be in focus enough to make it worth even looking at, and that's with using a different light source cause remember the light that came with it doesn't work. The eye pieces are ok. They are not real comfortable. I cannot tell you how the cell phone adapter works as I had to use my phone to provide light to even attempt to view a slide. There are way better microscopes out there at this price point, so I wouldn't bother wasting your time on this one. ... show more

  • Not very impressive
All the blank glass slides were shattered upon deliver, the premade slides are all different color of the same crystal, the light doesn't come with a battery and is made like it was an afterthought, and over-all I wasn't to impressed with the quality of the lenses.

  • A microscope for a budding scientist
Even though this microscope is advertised for a child market, I was surprised at how sophisticated it was. I wasn’t expecting that and was kind of apprehensive because my kid is only 5 and may shy away from it as it’s more intricate than what they usually play with. I wanted to get them something STEM related just for exposure and see if it was a field they would be interested in. They are naturally curious by nature so they enjoyed it. Of course I had to help guide and explain but I found it to be interesting as well and it ended up being a fun activity for us. ... show more

  • Microscope
Grandson picked up so many things outside, even brought in a worm, eww. His fascination looking at stuff was fun to watch. He'd get so excited. Maybe he'll become a scientist. Long way off but who knows. :)

  • Pretty cool, beginner microscope
For what it costs and what it is, this is a nice microscope. You can see some cool things, learn things, and just have fun with this. This is advertised for kids, but its definitely not a toy. It is more of an entry level microscope, to try and discover new interests, or just for schoolwork. It is a good quality overall, nothing crazy special, but definitely a sturdy and capable device. Happy with the order and excited to look at more critters and things with this ... show more
